We live three hours from this restaurant, but on our way back from Sydney late at night, we figured we’d find someplace to have food and we all agreed on Italian. So we searched up some Italian spots nearby and came across this place. On our way over there I looked at some reviews and I noticed some recurring themes. The overall rating was 4/5 stars because the reviews were either 5/5, 1/5, or 2/5. I figured I should look at the low reviews and see what the complaints were and it seemed that some people said the pizza was underwhelming, the atmosphere was bad, and the pasta was over salted. I decided to test these out, so here we are. The atmosphere resembled that of a bar, not quite what I was expecting but it felt like a nice little joint, didn’t feel very authentic though. I ordered Margherita pizza and my sister ordered some pasta. The pasta was very salted, as the reviews said, but the pizza wasn’t underwhelming, not fantastic though. The pizza was wayyyy too big to eat all on my own so my sister had some too. Overall, the staff was really nice, the pizza was eh, the pasta wasn’t bad but there was quite a bit of salt, and it’s like a Viking-ish feeling to the place.

Quite disappointed with high price and small quantities from a “family” restaurant. Entree was prosciutto for $18. We got 5 slices of prosciutto and 4 skinny breadsticks - that’s it. We ordered the seafood hotpot for $42 and received a bowl basically full of shells. Once we removed the shells, that visually gave the appearance of a decent meal, we were left with a couple small cubes of fish and a scattering or pippies and muscles and 2 slices of bread. Not a prawn to be seen. The flavours were good but we left hungry. No complimentary bread rolls at start of meal. The whole food experience felt like we were charged the most possible for the minimal amount of food. I realise some venues are doing it tough and this certainly felt like it. Staff were polite and attentive.

Hi Jane, thank you for taking time to write a review, and our sincere apology for your dining experience at Cavallino.
Mistakes are made all the time in hospitality, and I am sure we will continue to make more mistakes, however feedback such as yours is essential to ensure we reduce the amount of mistakes. The seafood hot pot should indeed include prawns and calamari also, this will be addressed with our Head Chef, the prosciutto entree for $18 is for one person, aged Italian prosciutto sells for about $12 for 100gm in retail outlets and delis, we use aged San Daniele prosciutto and $18 for about $120gm or 5 pieces is in fact quite reasonable.
Yes hospitality sector is suffering, after 2.5 years of covid lockdowns and now the alarming rate of inflation and crazy cost of goods almost all venues are feeling the impact.

Nice but! Two of us had dinner Friday 26th Aug 22, have been before.
Had garlic bread entree, steak & fish for mains. My steak on top of the smallest blob of mash, that was it, same with the fish dish.
The food is very nice to enjoy, but times are not that tuff to pay $48 for a meal, with not much on the plate . Place was not that busy, 4-5 waiters, no one taking notice or asking if we would like another wine or dessert. Waited, but, so we left, voiced it when paying, but felt, didn’t really care.
We don’t mind paying for nice. It’s not that hard to put bit more mash & a few greens on a plate. How much are a few beans?
Really what are some of these restaurants coming to.
Cheers

Well, this was the second time our group unfortunately decided to have lunch at this place. The first time was pretty shocking but this time they got gold! What an unprofessional, disorganised overpriced place serving ordinary food.
A group of 20 of us sat down at this place. We waited and waited for someone to approach us for drinks and waited. Finally after about 20 minutes and asking for service our orders were taken. Another three groups arrived about 15 minutes after our orders were taken and they got served. We waited again for some time only to view the other tables receiving food except our table. The other tables had all but finished when our food arrived by the amateurs. Again we had to ask for drinks. As they say Fish go rotten from the head down and the owner needs a reality check or find a suitable career change perhaps polishing railway tracks!

Thank you Dean, in most cases a worthy response and an apology is always called for, but in your case and the insults you have chosen to heap upon us is not worthy of a response.

We were really looking forward to trying another Italian restaurant but alas it was disappointing.
The linguine was a bit undercooked or dried out - anyway we really didn’t enjoy it.
Also we had a supreme pizza and in this case the salami was really too strong for my taste. This might be a personal preference, but honestly I rarely have a pizza that I don’t enjoy. The pizza was really overwhelmed by the salami. The best dish was the beetroot salad.
Service was fast and friendly so that was a positive.
We eat out regularly, but unfortunately we left this experience feeling underwhelmed and disappointed.

Hi, and thank you for taking time to provide feedback, which in fact lacks any detail that may assist us to improve our offerings. Firstly we do not have linguine on the menu, and if you have mistaken the pasta type, then which pasta dish was is? We make our tagliatalle and tortolletti in house, and as for the wood fire pizza we have been rated by AGFG as one of the top 7 , as for the salami again I am baffled as we use a mild salami with very mild tatse. Our Head Chef and Pizza Chef are Italian born and trained, hence our food is very authentic and at times clashes with tatse buds of those that are not used to authentic Italian pasta and pizza.

The food was delecious, a great example of Southern & Northern Italian offerings.
Our waiter young man was delightful, and very attentive with a genuine and caring charachter, we felt appreciated by almost everyone at Cavallino.
The Head Chef who surprise surprise was Italian came out and spoke to us, the whole team seemed incredibly sincere and professional and seem to take pride in their restauant and their work. Our menu consisted of amazing starters of scallops, Kingfish capaccio and baby calamari, all excellent. The Pizzas were incredibly tasty and charred, the vension was perfect, the duck could be better as I found it slightly tough, and the king prawns were outstanding. This place is remarkable display of fantastic Italian cuisine, complemented by wood-fired pizzas.

Only 15 minutes from Wahroonga in a great spot in Terrey Hills is Cavallino
Beautiful warm setting, great Italian food, genuine friendly service and great for large family groups. We had possibly some of the best pizza's we have ever had, along with some amazing pastas, try the prawn pasta with pesto, or the egg plant parma, great selection to choose from. Great night, ended up at the bar having a few more drinks.

Had the fish which was very rubbery and was over salted. Pizza was very good but will not be returning. Very disappointed. I know that when dining at an Italian restaurant you should order pizza or pasta but if you are offering other meals these should also be good. My fish was definitely frozen and not fresh. Presentation great but taste terrible.

Hi Katrina, thank you for taking time to give us feedback, and our apology for your experiance on the night. No restaurant is immune from occassionaly serving dishes that are not cooked right, and we take all feedback seriously to improve our offerings. Dinning at an Italian restuarnt is not all about pizza and pasta, and contrary to your asseration, we only purchase fresh Australian fish fillets that we portion, This includes Barramundi, snapper, Kingfish naming a few, I am not sure how you so confidently decided your fish was frozen, and I assure you we dont use frozen fish. However we accept we did indeed provide a dish was was not cooked to our usual standard, and we again apologize for your experiance

Excellent experience.
Friendly, authentic and professional service.
We put the chef to the test and he wowed us with risotto with truffle, sophisticated squid ink pasta, gnocchi, steak and pizza.
Loved it. We will return v soon.
Bravo and thank you.

Wow! What an amazing experience I had here at Cavallino. Besides the food being so delicious, the customer service and the friendly smiles elevated the atmosphere/ambiance of the restaurant. Also, I recommend ordering an espresso martini, one of the best I’ve ever had. Can’t wait to be back.

Having lived most of my adult life in North Shore and Northern Beaches we had never been to Cavallino at Terrey Hills. My daughter agreed to have her 21st there and we were not dissapointed at all. A great venue for large parties, or even smaller ones as they have multiple areas, food was just fantastic, the pizzas were very authetic and done perfectly, the pastas were also very good, but what took my attention was the the stunning Rib eye, cooked just right MR...
The only complaint we have was one staff member who was not responsive and she seemed to be in her own world, otherwise Cavallino is an amazing Italian eatery, its not fine dinning and we were so glad to say it. Rustic and authentic as they like to advertise with reasonable prices and great quality.

We were so fortunate to dine at Cavallino’s on the last night before the isolation laws were enforced. A private party of 12, we enjoyed the seafood and pasta banquet. It was to die for and Robert the manager was an exceptional host, introducing us to the best wine selection for our meals. We can not wait till the doors open again but until then we are enjoying the best takeaway Wood Fire Pizza in Sydney a couple of nights a week. Cavallino is the first place we’ll go when the restrictions have been lifted.

Walked into Cavalino at 12pm without a reservation on Valensines day, staff were very helpful and organised a table for 2. We did not excepct such a great lunch and service.
The Wagyu rump melted in my mouth, the desserts limited but very nice indeed.
A great unaccepted lunch...

My partner and I were disappointed by the lack of atmosphere and underwhelming pizzas. Surround sound would help create more of a vibe, as it felt stale and quiet despite the building having a lodge vibe and fairy lights. Our pizzas tasted basic, nothing to oo and ahh about. On the plus side - tasty arancini starter. Unfortunately, we won’t be returning.

Fantastic food… fantastic service!
What a wonderful evening our family had tonight. Was our first family dinner outing since lockdown and it was so memorable… the food and service was outstanding. The pizzas, mains and desserts were all delicious, could not fault a thing.
The service was also perfect. Our waiter Shaun was very attentive, not to mention entertaining! He made our evening so enjoyable and is a true asset to this restaurant.
The restaurant has a lovely vibe about it. It is comfortable yet classy, parking is easy to find. Can’t wait to return.
