Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Our family went there last week. The staff were warm and friendly. The food was great. The servings were just enough and we loved it. Definitely goin back next time.=)

The staff were lovely, ambience great, food was $$$$, ordered rare steak and returned the first medium, it was replaced with a second medium steak; how does a steak specialist serve high priced steak which is average. The staff didn’t seem to mind the 2nd...steak was NQR!More

Simple ingredients not available, but there’s a supermarket nearby? Thai Beef salad sloppy, incorrect flavour. Beef ribs served luke warm and gristly, no Brussel Sprouts as advertised. Service quite surly. Wouldn’t recommend.

We have been to this pub on several occasions when visiting Mudgee. The food is not cheap so you would expect quality on your plate. I ordered the duck breast as a main and can honestly say I have not had a worse pub meal...ever and I have had a lot. It all tasted like it had been cooked hours ago and was basically inedible. The duck was tough and was served as two small slabs. The spinach and potatoes were long dead. The sauce was reheated gravy. We will not be back. Do better. Have some pride in what you put on a plate.More

Went here for dinner on a Tuesday night. This would usually be a regular pub for us. Ordered and waited 1 hour and 10 mins for our meals, was the worst steak I’ve had there in years and sides were cold. When asking the waitress...on the hour how our meals were going they said being plated and that they were busy. We have been there in a much busier setting and gotten much better meals and a lot quicker. Definitely won’t be rushing back for a while.More

Great pub food, I had the Thai beef salad, and my partner had the rump steak with pepper sauce, both delicious. Food came out fairly quick, kids' meals came out first which we didn't mind. Service was good, polite and friendly staff who were up...for a chat. Recommend for an easy meal, kid friendly, well priced food. Good wine selection available too, lots of local wines.More

The lamb shoulder roast was the best ever - we would’ve gone back the next day for seconds! The meat just fell off the bone and was really flavourful. The roast veges we had with it were also fabulous and the serving sizes were very...generous. The sirloin steak was also great, with the roast potatoes in butter and lime leaves and steamed veges. It would’ve been the best if the lamb hadn’t been absolutely superb! Apparently the waitress hadn’t collected an unfinished plate or heard anything but compliments, as had also been the case for the special beef wellingtons recently. Pity to miss them! Next time…. Probably a good idea to book (lots of reserved tables) so that you can sit in the area you prefer, and we arrived just before the bistro-opening at 5:30pm, which was lucky in terms of getting a table and joining the rapidly-growing food queue. Perhaps the lamb sold out early, but possibly not…. Go and check for yourself! You won’t regret it for an absolutely top-notch huge baked dinner for only $26!More

This is a large, sprawling venue within the Lawson Park Hotel. We visited on a Saturday night and it was pumping. (Booking essential then I suspect.) It was also quite noisy - though not quite as bad as I expected! The menu is varied, though...steak is clearly the specialty of the house. They even have some (very expensive) cuts of dry aged beef on display. One of our party is very particular about his (medium rare) steak and was pleased with what was served to him here. Also winning favorable reviews were the pan-fried duck and the jewfish, which I think was a special on the night. While the Red Heifer might be big and busy, it also wins points for efficiency as our meals came out reasonably quickly.More

Just wanted a decent chicken Parma. How very disappointing to find my chips and veg were cold 🥶 My chicken Parma was dry, hard and over cooked with little sauce and a mountain of cheese!!!!! For $57 (my husband had 2 lamb cutlets, thin and...again overcooked!!) it was over priced and to me the whole experience was over rated. I knew I should’ve gone for one of the steaks 🥩, then again my chips and veg would still have been cold.More

This has always been a favourite in Mudgee, but no longer. We were unable to make a booking so arrived at 5.30pm to get a table. Many were reserved for 7.30pm or later, but we ended up outside and joined a very long queue to...place our order. The salt and pepper calamari for entrees was superb, so we were excited for our mains. They finally arrived after 7.00pm and all 6 were disappointing. Schnitzels were burned and tough and could only just be cut with a steak knife. Steaks were not cooked as requested, were of poor quality, and were not even hot. As we left, some of the booked tables were still not used, and we went home cold and unsatisfied.More

Great range of food. Older hotel with lots of atmosphere. Food good quality and plenty of it. Both had steak, beautifully cooked, tasty sauces and veggies. Overall, it is a pub, no table service, but price reflects this. Busy, and appeared to be well patronised...by locals.More

Third time eating here while travelling through Mudgee. Good food from a large menu. Heaps of choice with a lot of steak options. Partner had grilled sword fish - large portion and very good. I was not hungry - half a pizza as a smaller...option than most menu items. Staff were friendly and cheerful and service very quick. Definitely will be back when next in Mudgee.More
