Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Literally an old butcher shop, very cool inside. Menu written on the wall, not a huge amount to choose from. Toast was thick and lovely, they buttered it for us and was very buttery. Almost sickly but luckily i like butter! Service was quick. I would recommend for bfast.

Had a lovely coffee experience in a historic coffee shop, preserving some features of an old butcher shop. Host was delighted in telling his story of his start up coffee shop from an old butchers shop. A must to try and see.

There is a bit of history with old signs and posters on the wall. There is no counter and the kitchen in the rear is where hot food is prepared. Friendly service, great coffee and my toast and my wife's banana bread were just right for a low key breakfast.

Returned after a number of years to find this cafe has changed considerably, and not for the better. Used to be a warm, friendly, busy place with a lively communal feel and great food and coffee and friendy staff. Now it has none of that. Our order of an avocado mushroom melt was ridiculous. Wood-hard avocado with little evidence of mushroom, it had to be sent back. The avocado was so hard just tapping it with a knife was enough to show it was totally inedible. Trying to serve it was a big mistake. Better to say it's not available. The replacement chicken mayo sandwich was as basic as you can get. Toasted white bread with a skinny overcooked piece of chicken, a tiny dollop of mayo, and a clump of lettuce. At least the bread was fresh, nicely fluffy and toasted well. The coffee was weak. Half-hearted apologies accepted, but we won't be back.

Located in main street ,next to Kellys Irish pub. walked in and the young long haired waiter was sweeping up lots of dirt from floor in main floor area. I said to cashier/Battista id like to have breakfast and sit inside. 1st thing she said was "u have to sign in with QR code on wall" All ok, but when i turned around to scan code the "Waiter" was on his hands and knees next to entry door sweeping the dirt into a dust pan with small brush right in front of wall where code poster was, i had to wait till he moved, the cashier abruptly said " its on the wall there" , i just pointed towards the floor. After he moved , i went and sat down and waited for a while till he came to table, i was only person sitting at the time. he eventually came over took my order, then came back and put knife/fork and napkin on table. what i noticed was after he was on floor cleaning up dirt he never washed his hands. So much for covid rules, let alone basic food handling rules. Bacon and eggs were good and thick toast. Food was good. Service and cleanliness was ???

Had breakfast here both days of my work stay. Ate in on the first and takeaway on the second. Really nice ! Great coffee and great service! Also bought some local eggs to take home but I did resist a fresh homemade muffin (although I wish I had got one as they did look good!) if I was back in Mudgee would definitely be back!

I’m out in mudgee for work and stopped by for some coffee and a bite to eat. Me and my colleague had a friendly greeting to grab a table. Coffee taste great, food is filling and tasty and the shop is unique and cute on the inside as well.

We thought a cafe in an old butcher shop would be great. However it was very basic, I am into coffee and cake and this cafe did not have any cakes really just muffins which was just ordinary. The interior is really cool and worth the look in the door and maybe just a coffee.

Very busy on Anzac Sunday. We tried for breakfast but the owner explained that he was working alone and unable to do the breakfast menu. Shame as the menu looked good and a local has recommended we try. We ate elsewhere but did return for our coffee as the owner was so hospitable. Coffee was great!

Well the Butcher Shop Cafe is by name a converted butcher shop. We had an overnighter in Mudgee and headed to the cafe for breakfast. The service was good, the big breakfast was excellent and the coffe was great. What more can you say. Only thing is that no Efpos is available, cash only so don't get caught out. (there is a wall teller just down the street if you need some folding stuff)

Ordered smashed avo $22 1 piece of bread, 1 egg, plus beetroot humus. Left with an empty wallet and still hungry. Surely 2 pieces of toast wouldn’t ruin the bottom line? Had to eat the humus out of the bowl nothing to put it on! Great coffee though

Having a short stay in Mudgee, for first time visit. Had lunch here,as we were told food was great. Partner had home made Spring Rolls and I had Pasta dish. Food was absolutely beautiful, my Spaghetti dish, was one if the nicest I have had and my Partner thought his Spring Rolls delicious. Very good portion size, Service was friendly and prompt. Lovely cafe and will definitely come back again to try more dishes.

Very ordinary for the price. and way too expensive for what it is. 1 rasher of bacon & 1 small sausage, 2 undercooked eggs, with a few bits of vegie and one small piece of toast. Relish was yuck. Yes, I admit I have high standards, but how hard is it really to make a decent big breakfast.

I don’t know why this cafe is number 2 on trip advisor. The service was appalling had to look for someone and the cafe was nearly empty. Was told kitchen wasn’t open for another 10 minutes at 11.30 in the morning. We were ignored when we came in. Didn’t bother ordering we left.

Loved this place. It had a great interior with white tiled walls, retro signage and a meat hook above (not great for a vegetarian!!). There is also a fantastic coffee bean grounder. We only stopped for a coffee because we had already had breakfast but we ended up buying a piece of art as well. The sweeties looked delicious! I would recommend a visit to tbis cafe!
