About
G&Co operates a wood-fire bakery, coffee house & communal table. Our busy dine-in breakfast, brunch and take-away trade means we do sell out, despite increases in production. Our aim is to consistently deliver quality professional service matched with quality products to satisfy your palate. As such we do opt to close when our daily output is exhausted rather than try to meet demand by lowering our standard.

Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Havent been to Albany for too long. So first place for a coffee and a feed was here.
Just as good as before.
Baked eggs were spot on, and croissants brlliant.
Wonderful cafe au lait (by two for the Biss) and hot chocolate.
Thanks for a great start to the day

Walking into this cafe/patisserie reminded me of our visits to similar patisseries in France. The furnishings are eclectic but there is nothing eclectic about the displays of the delicacies in the cabinet windows.
We arrived early on two of the mornings when it was open and watched the young female pastry chef arranging the displays with a perfectionist touch and bemoaning the fact that they were short of some green herbs for the display. When she finished, it was a work of art and everything looked exceedingly scrumptious. Difficult to choose.
The croissants were flaky and buttery and the coffee was good.
The only set back was they didn't appear to have a bathroom, though we didn't ask.
Staff were very friendly.

Not having visited Gourmandise & Co for several years I was keen to get back there and get my fix of genuine French cooking. And sure enough, I was as equally delighted each of the half-dozen times I dropped in for a coffee and pastry as I had been in the past.
The service is always friendly and as prompt as possible, bearing in mind that at this time in Australia there is a dire shortage of casual staff of all kinds, including wait staff. Customer attention is always devoted to each person and their order, you always get the feeling that you and your needs are recognised. You're not just a number or an amount of revenue.
The atmosphere is truly and authentically French. It's easy to imagine being in Nice or some other French town on the coast, being so close the harbour with water views. The decor of the cafe is obviously refreshed constantly , striving to give customers that true French feeling, an authentic reflection of the Nationality of the chef.
Importantly the coffee is barista-made, beautifully flavoured, and very reasonably priced, consistent with pricing in other cafes in the area.
The food is prepared by the French chef means that all food, including for example croissants, escargots & quiches are authentic. The escargots & cinnamon rolls that I sampled the most often are exquisitely fragrant, buttery, being composed of perfectly made French pastry. All offerings are made by hand early in the morning of the day intended for consumption. This cafe is popular with local people which means that sometimes there can be a run on popular offerings such as escargots. Fear not. The almondine, filled with wonderful creme patisserie and some kind of fruit, was my substitute, and oh my goodness, was I happy about that! So gorgeous in the mouth!! There are many other choices, see my images.
The French bread and all pastries are baked in a wood-fired oven.
I love the food, the very visible chef supervising all orders, the decor and ambience. Sometimes though I wished that more than a single copy of each of the major newspapers read in Western Australia were available. It's awkward when other customers are solving the crossword in these publications.
For me, a visit to Albany is incomplete without a visit to Gourmandise & Co. And don't forget, its not unexpected to have a French presence in the town. There are plenty of land marks around Albany with French names to remind us that the site almost became a French settlement.

This is a casual French style cafe located along Stirling Terrace in Albany. Opening hours are 7am to 12.30pm (Tues to Sat). They have a eclectic yet quaint indoor seating area along with outside tables. We stopped here for a light breakfast during a recent visit to Albany.
On the day, we tried a couple of their quiche servings, which were both generally good, nothing outstanding nor bad. Long Black coffee was ok, Macchiato rather nice. Service was slower than most, felt the prices were a bit high for what they were serving on the day. Otherwise, Gourmandise & Co is a neat place to try while in Albany.

The pleasure of French pastry in Albany. What can I say, except that it’s excellent!
We came twice and didn't have time to taste everything, but the little we did reminded me of our excellence in culinary and gastronomic art.
Thank you for these moments of delight and I invite all those with a delicate palate to come and taste the products of this place.
The setting is very pleasant and it's even better when a place on the terrace is available.
Finally a little extra, for the French who, like us, have difficulty with foreign languages and the staff speaks French. đź‘Ť

Last year when I visited Gourmamdise I had a fab French breakfast -
YUM croissants, French butter and jam and great coffee for starters.
This year (Feb 2023) I went back - new management but the food service and yumminess was exactly the same.
Be back again next year

Fabulously eclectic French inspired cafe. Brilliant hand made food clearly made from really super ingredients.
Not a microwave oven in sight ... everything heated up in a wood fired pizza oven ... so worth a visit !

Went here 4 years ago and was so impressed I wanted to see if it had maintained its high standard.
Just been the last 2 mornings for breakfast and it is just as good as ever.
The high standard of food is matched by the high standard of presentation, which leads you wanting to try everything on offer.
You feel like you are in a French farmhouse being taken care of by a lovely family.
The coffee is really good, as is the tea.
Wish I could go every morning.

My Husband and I had brunch here. We did attempt to go to lunch on a previous day but kitchen was closed .The chef prepares everything fresh and when sold out . That's it. Far enough. My quiche was delicious. My husband had a Ham tomato and cheese Panini. He said it was nice but too expensive at $18.50 . We have travelled to France many times and are aware of the quality and effort that goes into preparation but this was a little steep. Presentation was outstanding
Coffee good and service to match.

A small and eclectic French café offering a warm and cosy spot (especially on a cold and rainy day) for a great coffee and delicious pastry. Not a lot of tables and is always busy, but grab a takeaway if there's nowhere to sit. A great menu offering a good range of very French dishes you wont find anywhere else in Albany. Very highly recommended.

The first time we called into this cafe it was 1pm and they had run out of food. Great recommendation to go back we thought. Our next visit was a Saturday morning. They were out of control, it took 15 minutes in line to order. Staff appeared to wander around with food unsure of where to deliver it. We received our pastries quickly but my coffee was slow, and not hot when received. By this time we were ready to move on. It wasn’t our number one experience in Albany.

Dear MuckiDuck
Thank you for taking the time to post a review.
FYI since Sept 2020 post Covid19, we have been trading 4 days a week and have shortened our hours due to staff shortages. As people continue to travel within WA due to the low level of Covid-19 cases we are busier than ever but working with less & often inexpereinced staff.
We regularly do sell out & struggle to meet demand.
Saturday's are always extremely busy, we have a large take-away as well as dine-in trade, so waiting 15 mins to be served during peak period is not unusual.
We had new young staff working on the floor the Sat you visited, and were also very very busy.
If you have access to the Weekend Australian Magazine dated 5-6 June, read the article: Are you being served? Hospitality workers.....where the bloody hell are you? The staff shortage is Australia wide and more so in popular tourist areas such as our regional city.
I apologise that your experience with us was not up to your expectations, but we are doing our best in less than ideal circumstances.
If you ever come back to Albany please introduce yourself and we will offer you 2 complimentary coffees.
Janette

Celebrated completing the Stirling Range Ridge Walk with a bowl of hearty French rice pudding, fruit and cardamon for breakfast at Gourmandise in Albany. It was to be a 2 hour breakfast feast with my family and friends. Everything was superb, as usual. Thank you so much for the wonderful food Xavier! Made the walk all the more worthwhile.

My mum and I moved back to Albany a few months ago after 15 years away and have slowly been trying every place around town. This place has absolutely blown my mind and taste buds.
The closest I’ll ever get to Paris for a while
Will be back soon
So lovely the head chef or possibly owner comes out to check how the food is and if you are happy

Amazing cafe with an amazing vibe. The decor of this place is gorgeous. The pastries were beautiful. I wanted to order the rice pudding after seeing many positive reviews about it. It wasn’t available when we visited but the young woman who served me said she would make it just for me. I was so impressed with this as I would have understood if they couldn’t make it. I’m delighted she decided to make it for me because it was amazing and so beautifully presented. Would definitely go back again next time we’re in Albany

Oo La La … just spent 3 days in Albany and went to this place every morning. A nice French touch and the baked eggs are highly, highly recommended as are the buttery croissants, the quiches, pastries, opera gateux, blueberry tart and, of course, the macarons. You’ll need a few days to try everything but do it, you won’t be disappointed
