So good we went there twice in two days during a visit to Albany. Once mid-afternoon on a Saturday. Was quiet and we were warmly greeted by the chef (and owner we assume) on arrival. The menu was explained to us and we chose the Fisherman’s Basket for myself and my partner and a burger for another in the party. The prawns, calamari and fish were all tasty and succulent. The chips were great too. Truly the best fish and chips I have ever had. At $26 the platter fed two easily and was great value. Our friend said his burger was really good. Second trip was the following day at lunch. Was busy but the service still excellent and the food just as good. We ate in the restaurant both times and the atmosphere is friendly and unpretentious, like the service. Not a lot of parking on the premises or on the street - only an issue if it’s really busy and the coffee on offer is average at best, but as good or better than any other other fish and chip shop I would assume! Highly recommended if you are after a casual meal and enjoy fresh, tasty seafood.

This place is where I go on the way to my favourite uncle's place. It is a little blue fish and chip shop situated in a dog leg off Middleton Beach Road. It is run by a delightful family who makes everyone of their customers feel welcome. Every time I have been there, I have watched them be a part of the community and that is what I love about this place. The premises are clean, the atmosphere is family orientated, they care about the environment using local suppliers. The dine in area is very cosy, with children's drawings and customer comments on the chalkboards and tables very generously graced with cutlery, serviettes and condiments. I had the classic Fish and Chips and the batter was not too thick, the chips perfectly cooked and the size of the serve generous.

From the moment we got there the service was awesome, friendly energetic staff who seemed like they wanted to be there. Lovely atmosphere, food arrived to the table quickly. Fresh and hot, fish to die for, perfect traditional short fat chips, and the Best gluten free batter my celiac daughter has ever had! The wait staff were super accomodating and knowledgeable even offering an apple cider vinegar in lieu of standard. Then to top it all off I found the complimentary southern vinegar sweet chilli sauce.

Very expensive. Restaurant prices, fish and chip service and average food. I found the service lacking and food expensive. Paid $25 for a soggy piece of fish and a service of chips slapped on the plat. No salad no sauce. Better options at the local pub. Was very disappointing.

This place caters ONLY for people who think paying a ridiculously high price for something makes it the best. Chips were undersalted and tasted like cardboard, they were also floury. The price for a piece of fish was $17-$23, I was horrified... especially given that a $9 piece of fish elsewhere is bigger, juicier and tastier, just madness that a place like this can exist. They were kind enough to give us a tub a tartare for free as it was going to be chucked out, even that was an unbalanced flavour, too bland and creamy without any of the tang a tartare should have. Goodness knows how this place can advertise as the best on their front windows, I'm just in shock that they're still open. We went once last year and would never go again.

Hello SJ_travel-foodie, As a business, we try very hard to remain neutral on social media reviews as we want our guests to have an outlet that allows honest and raw feedback without our interference. In this case, I feel as if we do need to explain our brand and who we are so that there is no misleading information taken from your post. Yes, our price range of fish does vary between $17-$23 but this is because we ONLY use Local fish. What sets us apart from from other fish and chip shops is that we refuse to use imported fish in our main meals to lower our price point. We also do this with our vegetables, spices and meat. We are the middlemen between our local community and you. In relation to the price- our menu items are more expensive than others not because we’re trying to convince people that it’s the best, it’s because of the type of product that we use and who we use it from. We believe that paying more is a reflection of the loyalty that we all are attempting to give our neighbours. I do want you to know that we are very sorry and saddened to know that you didn’t enjoy your meal, we stand very firmly behind the quality of our product as it has won us multiple awards through the western Australian Fisheries industry council but I can see that we did not perform at our best during your visit. We always appreciate a phone call with constructive criticism so that we may better ourselves and do our best to rectify the situation. If you would like to discuss it more with us or if you would even just like a refund on your meal, we very much encourage you to give us a call.

Fantastic fish, chips, and vegetarian cauliflower cheese balls ☺️ very friendly service, helpful, even when very busy she was lovely. A little on the pricey side but the quality of food is worth it. On this very busy night, we only waited 10-15 minutes for our large order. Will definitely be back next time we’re in Albany 👍🏽

I phoned ahead for this order and lucky I did as this joint was jumping. As a coeliac I find it hard to eat out, but this place was knowledgeable about the condition and asked was it an intolerance or coeliac. The food was great. Highly recommend. A little pricey though that wouldn't deter me coming back for seconds.

I was recently in Albany with my wife celebrating our wedding anniversary, as we had honeymooned there thirty years ago and had booked to return and stay for one week. Fortunately, the day prior to our returning to our home in Perth, we happened on Ocean and Paddock and quite frankly it turned out to be the most happy food occasion of our trip. This restaurant has won the best fish and chips award in Western Australia for the past three years, which we can understand why.The proprietors are a delightfully engaging family affair and helped and advised on the questions asked of them regarding the fish and chips. Instead of plying us with a meal apiece, it was suggested that we try smaller portions giving us the opportunity to sample more of their fare before providing our order. Needless to say every sample proved delicious and we had great difficulty making our decision and to cap it off, we, being originally from England over fifty years ago, indulged in their concoction of mushy peas which were to die for. My wife and I both agreed that had we known about this restaurant earlier, then we would have dined there from day one of our visit and every successive day thereon, due to the varied menu on offer and reasonable pricing also. Owners, Trenton and wife Rebecca, being highly qualified chefs put their heart and soul into the business and deserve all of the accolades they receive and due to the support they give to the locals one would expect that to be returned in droves. On leaving we purchased a delicious takeaway cauliflower soup and accompanying home made flavoured roll,(a meal in itself), which we had for supper. We have been to Britains most popular holiday resort Blackpool on numerous occasions, where there is a fish and chip shop claiming to be the 'best in the world', however I sincerely believe thy have been eclipsed by Western Australia's Ocean and Paddock. Good luck to Trenton and Rebecca, you deserve nothing but the best. From Robert & Susan Vincent.

We went here based solely on all the great reviews but I’ve got to say we were all really disappointed with the food. We had classic fish and chips, beef burger and cauliflower cheese balls. The balls were ok, but they really needed some salt and pepper in the mix. The fish and chips were the worst we had in Albany, the shark was kind of mushy and the chips were way over cooked, basically just a greasy shell with no potato left in them at all. The burger was also too greasy. Service was ok at a busy place. Staff were friendly and efficient. That’s why it gets a two, the front of house staff were really good moving the people through.

Eat in or take away High end fish & chips shop probably the best in WA ❤️ definitely the best have been to so far. Everything is homemade and prepared with love. Free water on the table with fresh lemon and orange slices. The fishermans basket the sweet potato fries and the dips are superlicious. The restaurant has very lovely decoration details and the staff is friendly and pays attention to detail. So if you are in Albany... don’t miss out 😉

We shared a seafood basket consisting of fish, squid, prawns and chips and the quantity was just right for two. I have to say this was the best fish, seafood and chips I have ever eaten. The chips were crunchy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. The batter on the fish was also crispy and not oily while the fish was soft and flaky. The squid and prawns were tender and delicious. I think this is going to be a once a month treat for us from now on.

This restaurant won the WA Judge's choice award 2019 and it is no wonder why. It was really a nightmare to park near the shop, but eventually we did. The place was packed, mainly with takeaway customers. We selected the "Fisherman's Basket" which came with fish, salt & pepper squid, prawns and chips. This has to be some of the best fish and chips we have ever had. The lady serving was also delightful and so efficient. I cannot recommend this place highly enough.

We wanted to try out a top quality fish and chips joint in Albany and this one seemed like a good choice as it has won people's choice awards. We weren't disappointed. The grilled fish was exceptional. It came marinated/cooked in a lovely sauce. I'm not sure how to describe it but it was soooooo good. I normally get battered or crumbed fish but I think I will get grilled from now on if it always tastes like that. The chips were also good quality, with added vinegar being an option. Would like to come back and try the cauliflower cheese balls sometime. I also really like the fact that they have information about different fish displayed in their store, plus the assurance that all their stock are fished sustainably.

We had the Fisherman basket for $26 and we found the portion smaller than what we would get back at our local Perth shop.. You get 2 small fish (the fish was tasty but), 2 battered prawns, 4 small crumbled peppered squid and a small portion of chips. The chips wasn’t crispy outside like we usually like, fish batter wasn’t anything to rave about (wasn’t nice and crispy)... Overall, we wouldn’t come back as we’ve had better fish and chips and better value elsewhere. Warning - this place is super busy so be prepared to wait. Service was good just wish the food was as good as we hoped for.

First time I have been and will go back for sure. Amazing, extensive menu, cater for GF. Take away local Hammerhead shark and half serve of chips were cooked to perfection and still to hot to dive into by the time I travelled my 6 klms home. Staff were friendly and knowledgeable and attentive and other customers respected and kept to their Covid-19 social distancing rules. Well done guys, perfect 👌🏼
