Above the Norm at the Loft

No reservation was not a problem on a cold wet night. We enjoyed the cozy fire and overall warmth of the restaurant and the attentive waitresses. Steak is what Squires Loft is all about and they did not let us down in that regard - Fillet Steaks were cooked to order and came with baked potato or fries and some great sauces. We ordered a BBQ grilled mixed veg as an extra. Their wine specials were not available unfortunately.

Beautiful Meal!

Our family of six aged between 17-72 had dinner at this restaurant last night. We went there because we had read great reviews and we were delighted that every mouthful was beautiful! We all ordered different steaks and they were melting in our mouths. Our sides, especially the broccoli, were outstanding. Some of us had hot chips while others had the twice baked potato and we loved both. We shared a lovely bottle of red and everything was topped off with outstanding service. I highly recommended having dinner at Squires Loft. It was worth every cent.

Consistently good Steak

We dined here for dinner and as usual the steak is consistently good! All CoVid19 restrictions were in place (with the disappointing exception of the Maître wearing her face mask under her nose all night, I big “no no”!). Service is friendly and prompt, serving sizes are ample, food (main course only) and wine for two came to $150 so it’s not budget dining. Bookings a must, on-street parking.

We Ordered the Platinum Menu on New Years Eve. Was only served half the entree and when we let the waiter staff know, the response was the manager will have to talk to you about that as they doubted which menu we were to be served, the cheaper menu only gets one skewer of 5 prawns and you have to share that between the two of you. Once sorted the prawns were over cooked- dry and chewy. The steaks when served were the wrong steaks, again had to let waiter staff know. Took those meals away. Once that was sorted, we were served up the wrong plated meals again. 3rd time round we finally got our meals. The potatoe was served up less than lukewarm warm, almost cold, and the skewer of grilled veggies was 2 slices of Zucchini, 4 small slices of red and green capsicum and 3 mushrooms. Again to share between 2 people. We both ordered steak well done, however my partners steak was raw in the middle. When asked why he didn’t eat all his steak, 30 minutes later mind you, they said we can put your half eaten steak back on the grill for you. WTF? The owner put half filled helium balloons on our table which floated in our faces only to replace the first bunch of balloons that were also floating in our faces. They ended up by the end of our traumatic experience, stabbed by the steak knife we ate with. It was such a bad experience that we didn’t even want to stay for our 3cm thin slice of cake for desserts. I got up to pay our $230.00 Platinum Set Menu for 2 only to be told by the owner, ‘go sit down and eat your dessert’ I said ‘no thanks, we want to leave after our bad experience’ he again said no and to go sit down and walked away. I had to get another staff member to serve me. We felt that we should have walked out without paying to be honest as it wasn’t good enough to be a dogs breakfast, but being the good people we are, we just paid. Then they got that wrong and over charged us for someone else’s bill. That took another 15 minutes to sort out. Never again will we ever sit at this restaurant nor will we ever have a good thing to say about it. It ruined our special night and we left hungry.

My email after our visit - To whom it may concern, We had a party of 7 visit your restaurant on saturday 27th November to celebrate my daughters 21st birthday. PLease pass on our thanks to the staff. We chose your restaurant for dinner for this special evening and were happy with the service both on booking and on the night, and for the most part the food provided. I wanted to let you know that the Scotch fillet that I had was quite sub standard for the quality I would have expected. It was quite tough to eat for a medium rare and I left the pieces of gristle on the side of the plate. I was disappointed with the quality of meat that I had but the rest of the party were happy with their meals. On another note, I had informed the restaurant of the family celebration and was a little disappointed that my daughter was made to feel special for such a big occasion. For staff to know of her special occasion, a free drink or something of this nature would have made the dinner more special considering the expense we went to for the dinner. Just some thoughts for your restaurant to consider for future occasions. Kind regards, Below their Reply soon after I emailed them. Won’t be going again based on this reply. Sadly Dissapointing

This was a frequent haunt for for us. Normally so great and consistent. I realise many businesses have been hit hard by COVID, and I think this is one of those businesses. The inferior quality steak and the half serves of sides suggest a cost saving exercise at the expense of the customer. The bottle of wine we ordered was supposed to be a 2016 and a 2021 bottle came to the table with the expectation we would pay the same price for such young wine. So very disappointed, and may not go back.

Rude Manager & slow meal service - but food was very nice

1 hr 45 min wait for food. Waitresses very apologetic & very nice & courteous, but the manager was rude on arrival, no apology on the delay of our meals & no discount. The food was very nice & the iPad pictures of the steaks were a great idea. Will not be returning any time soon.

We had been looking forward to a return visit after a great meal last year when in Torquay. Despite booking a few weeks ahead, we were given a table in the busiest area of the restaurant with the door constantly opening onto us. The food was ok, except for the jacket potatoes which were still hard in the middle. Also, as we arrived, someone arrived with “ complimentary bread” - and disappeared without giving us the opportunity to let them know that one of us is gluten free. It would be nice to have had the chance to check if there was a gluten free option. And we were quite surprised that no Coca Cola was available.

"Really, Really, Good."

If you want to spoil that someone special go to Squires Loft. We dined in for dinner to a restaurant that has beautiful decor and low lighting which makes for a very comfortable setting. The steak, chicken, twice cooked potatoes and salad were delicious. The customer service, although a bit full on was excellent with very informative staff. The back ground music was also very good. Dine in at Squires Loft, prepare to be spoilt and enjoy.

I live 15minutes down the road from the Torquay resturant: and the only thing I was dissapointed with was myself for not dining here earlier. Seriously. Great local wines, absolutely perfect steaks.... sides are nice too. Atmosphere is ambient, a bit of a hunting chateaux feel, but suitable seeing you're there to eat juicy seared carcass. Veggie options available. Staff were pleasant and knowledgeable, with the right amount of interaction Price wise, it's fine. For steak, a couple wines, and a sharing of sides we paid about $80 ea. Do yourself a favour, and go....

Amazing service and the most tender steak

From the moment we stepped inside the door it was welcoming the waitresses were very polite and up for a little chat while showing us to our seat .. we had a nice seat in the back corner which was nice away from majority of the restaurant perfect for romantic dinner on our last night of our honeymoon , we ordered ribs to share which were so tender they fell of the bone .. for mains we had scotch fillet I had medium and my husband had medium rare both were cooked to absolute perfection. And it cut like butter ! Would suggest having an option for some seasonal greens instead of chips and potato ( I hardly touched my chips trying to cut back on carbs ). In saying that you can pay extra for a side of greens but the steak serve was huge next time we will go back for dessert we just couldn’t fit it in.. meals were also quick to arrive and the waitress was very helpful in helping my husband choose a good local beer .. thank you for your hospitality we will be back

Great steaks

We’ve dined here three times on special occasions over the last few years and I just felt the excellent service we’ve experienced previously has gone off the boil. It’s still a good venue however, steaks are delicious and servings generous, prices are not cheap but you definitely get what you pay for. Bookings are a must, on street parking, moody decor.

Superb steak, staff and service

My husband and I made our booking, but due to power outages in the area we were unable to get past the drinks; which were given to us complimentary. We then rebooked, as the staff were superb in the way they handled the situation. We were so glad we did- my husband regularly cooks steak at home and is very fussy and he loved it and so did I- cooked to perfection! Wine was amazing too. We ordered two sides, but took one home as we could not eat it all. The steaks are served with a whole potato, and be warned, it is filling. All staff were very helpful and professional. This is a definite restaurant to dine at in Torquay and we are already planning to make our way back at Easter.

It’s another story of good food done really well. An Angus steak, local Pinot noir and veg was a great meal. The real stars were the sauces. The garlic on the steak and prawns made it sing, and loudly. The sour cream with the local spud had a zest of lime that filled and cleaned your mouth all at once. An affogato to tidy up rounded it out

Went to Squire’s Loft on the recommendation of a local. We were not disappointed. We both had steak and it was cooked to perfection. I opted for the twice baked potato with sour cream and chives as the accompaniment, it was delicious. The service and ambiance was excellent. Highly recommended.
