Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Please don't go there. It was the most awful fish and chips ever. Fish was not fresh. Chips tasted and felt like cardboard. Don't waste time there.

Decent enough fish and chips to take away and eat for lunch by the sea. Shop is conveniently placed in Lorne not far from the beach.

So expensive, horrible batter, it was liked the fish was cooked in donut batter. Not even any salt or lemon to try and enhance the bland flavour and texture.

Standard fare when dining outside a chippery is a lot of hungry seagulls waiting to pounce on scraps. Our dining experience outside Salty Dog though was ruined by much larger and aggressive cockatoos. In fairness to the staff they did clean up quickly to try...to minimise this problem, but Lorne city authorities need to consider deterrents. The fish and chips themselves were O.K. without being anything special. Fish batter a bit dark oily/greasy. Chips were plentiful but a better option would be chips AND salad as the menu only seem to allow chips OR salad?More

These would have to be the best fish and chips I have tasted in such a long time. Fresh and delicious. The fish just melts in your mouth and they are very generous with their serving. We ordered a basket for two and with drinks...it was under $50.00. Fish, prawns, calamari, scallops, chips. Staff were really lovely. You can even buy alcohol if you decide to eat in which we found amazing. Toilets directly across the road in the park where you can also share your food with the Sulphur Crested cockatoos!More

Fantastic fish and chip shop with heaps of variety. Local fish on the menu, helpful staff and generous serves. Fish was cooked to perfection, chips were crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside, and it came with lemon slices. We grabbed dinner and...went and sat across the road on the grass. Would highly recommend.More

After being unable to decide where to eat we decided on buying some food from here (when In doubt buy chips).. I was very surprised about how good the Spud was and my kids loved their chips. My wife also said the burger was delicious....I would definitely recommend this place. Watch out for the pesky cockatoos thoughMore

Currently the only fish and chip shop open in Lorne currently due to just coming out of regional lockdown. We ordered chips and potato cakes and enjoyed on the grassy knoll over the road. They said 30-40mins wait, but it was ready in 20 minutes...which was a nice surprise. The chips were good. Potato cakes were super oily and had a funny taste about them. Almost chemically. We’ve had the same taste from other f+c shops in geelong. All in all, not bad for the price and to feed the family. We would come back, just to order chips though.More

We visited on a Monday evening, arrived around 6.15pm and were grateful we had because they were bringing their sign in for the eveniand getting ready to close. The staff were really friendly and obviously liked their jobs, lots of smiles! We ordered baked potatoes,...a burger and a kids pack. Everything was great, my son said it was the best kids pack he'd ever had! Instead of a bun the burger was in a lovely Turkish bread. Spuds were delicious ... thank you!More

Visited 2 nights in a row. Tried the Blue Grenadier, Flake and Butterfish the first night. On the second night, it was Butterfish all the way - succulent, sweet with a great batter. You get a very large piece of fish for only $7.30.

Amazing food at the salty dog! I had the most delicious baked potato (the salty spud I think it was called) and hubby had a piece of fish and some chips which he absolutely loved. I loved that the food was packed in boxes so...it was easy to take our meal down to the beach to enjoy.More
