Not your normal loud noisy pub but an inviting, warm intimate dining room with a large selection of entrees and mains. Lots of local trout, fish, beef, chicken and some Asian dishes. A great selection of wines including many Tassie wines ( a number by the glass). All reasonably priced. I had the fettuccine with prawns, chilies and herbs. Very generous amount of prawns. My partner had the lightly battered fish and chips with salad and was very impressed. Highly recommend.

Alex and I sat outside after riding about 500k’s on our bikes. We booked a room which was great, showered came downstairs and had a couple of beers before sitting outside. We ordered the chicken wings which were house smoked, and although small were incredibly tasty, as were the calamari that we also chose. For main I ordered the porterhouse, a cut I don’t normally order, and asked for it blue, and was knocked over not only by the tenderness and flavour of the steak, but it was perfectly blue, thank you chef, great job. Alex ordered the salmon which he said was fantastic, a couple of sides, and more bottles of Pinot that we will admit to, and a great night. Staff are great and we will visit here again.

Well renovated restaurant area in an historic hotel. Table service was fabulous, the food was amazing and so much improved on previous years. Best gnocchi gorgonzola and the entrees and mains were equally good quality with sound choices for carnivores and vegetarians. Reasonable wine list. The attention paid to our child who was having his 14th birthday celebration was sooo wonderful, he was thrilled, culminated by a room full happy birthday song. Returning in a couple of days to test out their community Friday night.

This was an utter disappointment. We ordered: T-bone 1 m/rare with pepper sauce, T-bone 2 (mine) Bleu with mushroom sauce. They mixed up the sauce and ‘done-ness’ of the meals but also, the steaks were very (I mean VERY) thin and gristly. One was Definitely not the 300gr as advertised. @ $32 for a steak with a choice of 1 sauce and 1side (Eg potato or chips or veg or salad) and each extra @ $8, it is poor value. The venue was great and the Wait staff were lovely. We were offered a sticky date pudding with caramel sauce and cream and icecream as ‘sweetener’ (excuse the pun) I think it was a microwaved Sara Lea pud drowning in a runny caramel sauce and cream out of one of those pressure bottles. Our first disappointing meal this year.

We are very sorry you did not enjoy your meal but I can assure you that we make the sticky date pudding and butterscotch sauce ourselves and we have plenty of people who rave about our sticky date. Hopefully your next experience will be more to your liking.

Staff were good enough to let us order lunch at 1440 (just prior to kitchen closing at 1500). Menu read okay and I'd dined here before. Really ordinary across four of our five meals - the halloumi burger was really just a packet of halloumi shoved between a shiny white roll with a token salad (couple of lettuce leaves and a piece of capsicum), pulled pork burgers much the same but with a simple coleslaw, fish 'n chips generous in size but oily +++. Chips ok but a pretend salad once more. My salt & pepper squid was the best of our dishes - quite tasty and possibly worth three stars. 80's music playing perfectly matched the dated cuisine on this occasion. The place is doing a roaring trade and looked attractive from the street. A meal the five of us all regretted after our healthy bushwalk.

We ate dinner here mid-week with our 3 year old. It was a busy evening. We certainly had a mixed experience. On one hand, the meals we received were delicious (steak and beef cheek, plus a garlic bread). Based on the food, we gave a 4 star review. However, we both thought the menu was quite expensive. We were really disappointed that there was no dedicated kids menu, just 3 options for "smaller appetites", and these options were also expensive ($17-$18 each). We ordered a bowl of chips as well, however when it arrived, they were sweet potato. Easy mix up, but when corrected, a replacement bowl of chips never arrived. We went to the counter to ask after them and cancel them (as we had already finished our meals by this time). The kind young man behind the counter did, in fact, send a replacement but the waitress (who didn't seem to want to be there) took them to a different table. They were taken off our bill and we were offered free drinks, so the young man handled the situation well. Just a shame.

Thanks for the review, it is a shame when mix ups happen especially if this does not get explained. We prefer to have a menu that doesn't discriminate as we find there are lots of people with smaller appetites but they don't want to order from the kids menu.

We stayed at the Empire for 3 nights recently, we love the hotel and have stayed there many times before. We always have a great meal at Cycles and this was no different, although it was a touch chilly to sit outside. The Cape Grim steak was perfect, rare as requested, salt and pepper squid perfect, the terrine was moist and had a lovely onion jam, the rilette unusual but tasty and the schnitzel very good. In all a great meal, washed down with a couple,of beer and a bottle of Pinot. Thanks Empire & Cycles, and it was nice to meet the chef the next morning and have a chat.

Gorgeous and quaint pub . Super friendly owners and family run pub . Dinner was great . Baked Camembert entree was delicious . Mushroom Risotto was cooked perfectly and a large serving . Home made chicken snitty was very tasty and filling. Guinness on tap and a nice selection of wines.

We have eaten here a number of times and always enjoyed it. There’s seating outside which is lovely on a warm summer night. The menu covers all bases, we had two sirloins which were tender and cooked as requested. The salmon dish was also well received. There’s a good selection of wine and beer available and there’s rooms upstairs if you wish to spend the night.

Lovely decor, even more rustic.. Lovely friendly staff with a sense of humour. Not everyone copes with me. Fairly simple but adequate menu with a good variety's of reasonably priced items. Chose a relatively heathy main being Wallaby lasagna with garden salad. Glad I was "game" enough to order this. It was delicious. Being on a health kick i have stopped eating bread and chips but decided to have a treat and ordered a garlic bread which was delicious (a little of what yoi fancy does you good)

We had dinner here two nights out of the three we were in Deloraine - and wished we'd made it 3 out of 3. The best food - lovely dinner both times. The service was a little slow the second time but the hotel had a band playing in the back area so the hotel was very busy. The food was worth waiting for.

Our experience began with the friendly reception received when booking. The hotel is old but has been lovingly restored with comfortable, light filled rooms and very modern ensuite bathrooms. Plenty of off-road parking and a room in which to store our bikes overnight. An open fire in the bar and dining added to the ambiance. The menu has lots of choice and the food was great. Hosts Mark and Amanda have made this into a great destination. Only word of caution:There are stairs and no lift. A staff member kindly offered to help carry our bags but if one has serious issues with stairs this might not be the place for you.

My friend and I stayed at the Empire, and ate downstairs at their restaurant. It was a busy night (though suspect every night is busy here) so had to wait a little while for a table, but that wasn't a problem. Any suggestion the Empire is an old-style country pub is blown away by the menu: so many great options to tempt, all served with fresh ingredients and with many with exotic / sophisticated touches. My friend had the seared wallaby tenderloin, which he raved about. I plumped for the glazed eggplant dish, which was good but not the exotic taste experience I had hoped for. But while this dish didn't quite work for me, it was great to see the chef putting up so many adventurous combinations on the menu. Clearly, the local diners love it and are coming back for more.

Great food and service. Welcoming publican. Food was yummy. The cottage pie especially. Good atmosphere during the day and night. Preferable to book. They also serve spiced mulled wine. Bit expensive at $12 per glass but everything is expensive these days.

Excellent meal after a days walking at Cradle mountain! Started with a local hemp infused beer, by Tasmanian hemp store, smooth as! The beetroot risotto was amazing! Helped the environment by eating wild caught deer! Sticky date pudding was the best of the weekend! Tea by the Art of Tea, a Tassie local, was beautifully bitter!
