This was a great night. The staff were wonderful and really made the evening with their interaction with our family group of 8 adults and 4 kids. We had a variety of meals and everybody including kids were happy with their meals. Lots of wine was enjoyed and much enjoyment was had. Would recommend this restaurant to anybody and many thanks go to our waitress for the night

This is the restaurant of the William Macintosh Motor Lodge. We ate there when staying at the motel and had an enjoyable experience. The service was friendly and the food was very good. Our waitress was particularly chatty and seemed genuinely interested in our travels The menu was interesting and more varied than usual. The chef is Indonesian so there were some Asian dishes mixed into the customary steaks and standard fare. I had the Nasi Goreng and it was excellent. Ambience was cosy and prices were reasonable. Recommended.

Very decent country town restaurant, with a good Asian touch. Ranges from Thai fish cakes to osso buco. Generous serves. Loved the 1960s-70s music mix one night; I left singing Janis Joplin. The lovely manager claimed she themes it to suit the guests!

We booked a table for two at Highlander Restaurant which was billed as a "fine dining experience" on the motel's website. However we found both the service and food was anything but! The restaurant was quite full on the night with only one person serving. Later another woman came out to help but it was clear some of the orders were being mixed up on other tables. We had a long wait before our meal arrived. We chose the bruschetta as an entree. This comprised an unappetising oily tomato concoction on a thick slice of toasted bread which had none of the usual fresh tomato and basil flavours. My main was a spaghetti marinara which arrived as pasta with a sludge of unrecognisable thick sauce studded with tiny bits of tasteless seafood. I could only eat a small portion before giving up on this unpleasant dish. My husband's lamb shank was slightly better but we both left very disappointed with the entire experience.

We stayed at William Macintosh Motor Lodge on Christmas Eve and had dinner at the recommended Highlander restaurant. My kids picked up Mac and Cheese, my husband had the Lamb chops from the specials Menu and I had the Vegetarian Indonesian rice. We also had a Beer and a House Red Wine. Kids Mac and cheese appeared to have come out of the microwave, was burnt and lumpy at different places.. My husbands Lamb chops were pretty undercooked and tasteless. My rice were ok, a little dry. I had asked those to be spicy which they were not but it was manageable. I would give those 3/5 if it was only my meal. We had placed our order by 6:30 pm and they never told us that there is a 10% surcharge for a meal after 7 pm on a holiday. We went for payment after dinner around 7:10 pm and then they ripped us off with a 10% surcharge and that felt bad after a lousy meal. May be the food is good at other times but our experience was below average on a Christmas Eve!

The food was just awful, service was worse, clearly under staffed to cater for a room full of people. The Drinks were overpriced and the wine menu was poor. The owner obviously cares only about his bottom line and must buy his produce on the cheap, because the food tasted mouldy. Give it a miss and go to the Naracourt pub instead.

All the staff were friendly and accommodating. The steaks were good, well cooked and reasonably priced. The main course of chilli mussels cost $40 and we got 6 mussels in a lot of sauce. The sauce was tasty but we have had this dish at pubs and other venues and paid less and received much more. Also they were not SA mussels but NZ ones which in our opinion are inferior. The seafood platter at $54 was also very disappointing. Dry hoki fish, heavily battered soggy calamari and the cooked prawns were bland.

Given the great ratings of The Highlander, we decided to give it a try. The menu options looked good and we were pleasantly surprised to see that there was a kids menu too (this isn’t advertised). We were disappointed with our meal and dining experience as the bubbly was flat, my husband’s scotch fillet was fatty and medium to well, rather than medium rare and my son’s sausages and mash was not as advertised. The sausages were Italian spiced beef sausages and it wasn’t described as such on the kids menu. He was quite hungry and couldn’t eat the sausages due to the spicy ness. It would’ve been good to know up front or to have plain sausages for kids. The bowl of seasonal vegetables was very salty. We raised our concerns with the waitress who was apologetic but really it wasn’t her fault. We asked her to let the kitchen know. We will not be returning.

Attentive and welcoming hosts made our dining experience memorable. Nothing better than being served by someone who knows the history of the region and best of all knows the menu. Thank you for a lovely meal and we will be back.

Homely feel, family run business. Very friendly and good service. Garlic bread was exceptional. Main courses adequate home cooking and generous. Desserts a bit hit and miss. Thet don't feel as though they are freshly made but held in the fridge on the off chance someone may order them. A bit disappointed as it was a Saturday night and reading reviews sounded likeit was real gem in a country town.

We were working locally and we simply dropped in for a meal. The Restaraunt was probably a little too nice and romantic for myself and work offsider. I wish I had my wife as she would be jealous I’m sharing a meal in a beautiful place with my offsider not her. Staff were amazingly helpful, food was outstanding quality cooked perfectly. The portion was great along with side options. I personally had the scotch fillet with garlic prawns. Steak was beautifully charred and cooked to my request. The selection of wines were impressive and complimented the meal. I Highly recommend the Highlander. I’m looking forward to bringing the wife back instead of my work offsider.

We were charged $17 pp, for a so called continental breakfast. All we got was the cheapest bread, jam, vanilla yogurt and cereal. No cheese, cheese ham or eggs that you would normally expect in a continental breakfast. The service was very poor.

My husband and I went here for dinner on our final night in Naracoorte, having booked that morning. It was a lovely restaurant, with beautifully presented and delicious food and a quiet ambience, despite all tables being booked and the adjoining bar being full. Along with the indian restaurant in the centre of town, this was the most elegant restaurant in Naracoorte. We had a margarita, then a bottle of gorgeous local wine.

36° South eye fillet was perfection on a plate 👌🏻 We travel and dine often at many fine dining restaurants, only sometimes there is a meals that stands out. Highlander Restaurant at Naracoorte is a humble restaurant and motel. Their food is second to none and their locally sourced beef is absolutely amazing and delicious. Highly recommended dining here when in the area.

Come here for the most hospitable, warm and friendly staff. Fantastic happy hour cocktails and after that, the most delicious pub meals that trump many Melbourne pubs. We went with a group of 6 friends and stayed in town to visit the Coonawarra winery region. We have been there 2 nights in row. Amazing!
