Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

There are a few local fish and chip shops in this area but we chose Fisheries on the Spit as it was the busiest (can only assume that means it’s the most popular/best🤷🏻‍♀️). The service was wonderful, with staff having a great process for taking orders and processing them, especially in light of operating a busy take away style shop given the current COVID-19 situation. The food was tasty and well priced, although perhaps the portion sizes could have been SLIGHTLY bigger. The chips included a delicious chicken seasoning. We will return to this shop.

Visited on Wednesday 6th May for takeaway fish and chips. We purchased two cod and chips, one was decent size fish and cooked ok, the other was smaller and over cooked. Not impressed enough to go back antime soon.

We have been eating at Fisheries on the Spit for about 20 years now. It has been consistently good for all of that time. It is a casual eatery, with plenty of outdoor tables and chairs. The batter on our cod was light and fluffy and the calamari cooked just as it should be. The servings were generous and the cod and calamari was all that we needed. They do have salads and other fresh and cooked seafood. We are happy to recommend.

We have been twice this Holiday. The Flathead Fish n Chips both times has been poor, with Dried out Flathead and Plastic Chips. We bought three Spanner Crabs both iMessages at $50 per time and only had two out of the six that weren’t Mushy. The staff would know this when they clean them and these should not be sold. Especially at the High current prices. The Selection of fresh Fish has been poor. This shop used to be the Seafood Icon. Now poor quality.

We came here once a few things ago and thought the chips were amazing so we returned again whilst on the Sunshine Coast. Only to find the quality had gone down hill and the fish and chips were very overcooked. We couldn't return as we had already driven back to the hotel and the phone lines were busy when we tried t call. The old lady was quite rude initially so we won't be back. What a shame but there are plenty of other options in the area.

I use to live in Mooloolaba and I was so looking forward to returning to my favourite Fish n Chip shop, "Fisheries on the Spit". Tonight I took my family back for a feed. It was terrible. My Fishermans Basket was cooked by a teenager and was mostly overcooked and inedible. The piece of whiting was so small, heavily crumbed and wafer thin. I'm not sure why the quality has deteriorated but it has, I will not be back.

Nothing like a sunny day and sitting under the shade of the trees or on the beach having some seafood/fish and chips from the Fisheries. Prawns, crab, cray and oysters always fresh and tasty. Fish and chip specials good value - fish portions sizes excellent and a good variety to choose from. Pricewise still good value. Will always return and highly recommend.

Very expensive for grilled fish which was so overcooked and dry I had to drown it in lemon juice to get it down. No salt on fish or chips. Chips were not good. Old prawns were mixed in with fresh. So old they would turn to mush when trying to peel them and weren’t consumed. Wouldn’t return.

We always return to the Fisheries to buy our fresh seafood and fish. Prawns are always the best. Crabs large, fresh and delicious. Oysters probably the biggest and freshest we have ever had in the area. Large selection of 'wet' fish: the ocean trout particularly good value. We could not fault and highly recommend

Part of the reason we use Mooloolaba as a stopover , is that it’s a great port for fresh seafood. Fisheries on the spit is a must do and all others fail in comparison. The staff will clean and cut your Moreton bay bugs for you so you can add on to their quality fish and chips. You know that it’s good when even their fish bites are made of snapper, trevally or whatever decent fish is on. The chips are the old school fat chunky ones and all fried products are cooked to perfection with no oily aftertaste. There’s usually plenty of seating in the shade or sun and it’s always a highlight of the trip visiting here!

Visited Fisheries on the Spit on the 16th May...the first weekend of the easing of restrictions after Covid 19 lockdown. What a disappointment! Ordered whiting, grilled snapper and chips. Both fish were not fresh. Obviously the fish was days old. So unappetising. One would think that the location would guarantee fresh Tasting fish. Their idea of 'fresh' is not frozen and defrosted but the taste was disgusting. Won't be visiting this place for a long while. Visit another fish shop you could do a lot better

I have frequented this Fish and Chip for years. Always our favourite beach side casual seafood desination. However the prices have gone up over and above. A small piece of grilled salmon in a cardboard tray and paper. $14.90. No chips no salad. Wait. 30 mins

Have been here a number of times when visiting Sunshine Coast. Ordered about $165 worth of seafood including 2 spanned crabs, 4 bugs, 1.5kgs of prawns, mussels and seafood sauce. Asked the guy if he could cut up the crab and bugs. No problems at all. Watched as he meticulously cut up and cleaned all crustaceans with the precision of a 3 hatted chef. Excellent work, and I told him so. Then went back to the apartment and had a feast of fresh and tasty seafood.

Been going here for over 35 yrs, always looked forward to it, never again !!! Visited twice in the last week. 1st visit: crumbed and battered fish was burnt, also the calamari, all very dry. 2nd visit: Snapper was tasteless, Prawns had been frozen, paid top dollar for oysters supposed to be fresh not bottled, weren’t even attached to the shell. Calamari wasn’t to bad. So after 35 yrs it’s time to look elsewhere, as the quality and quantity here has greatly demonised. No recommendations any more!!! Very sad !!!

Seafood but could barely see the fish!! Has to be one of word meals I have had in Qld. I ordered the whiting which 4 tiny pieces were served that nicely crumbed however the crumbs outweighed the fish of which estimated would’ve totaled 30 to 40 grams for the meal. As a result of almost no fish in the meal the result was no flavor and 0 enjoyment. Keep your money in your pocket and spend it elsewhere.
