Justin Lane used to be a great place to go. After tonight’s experience however, I would be reluctant to return. Unfortunately the service and the food is not what it was. Particularly disappointing tonight was the fact that the Senior Service Manager demonstrated that she had little appreciation of good customer service. The food itself was also disappointing - the pizzas were delivered to the table burnt. There are now plenty of other great places to go in Burleigh and neighboring suburbs. Justin Lane need to make sure they don’t lose touch with their loyal customer base.

I brought my inlaws here for dinner and was advised that our booking had a 2 hour window which was fine, however after about 50 mins staff were clearing the table without asking if we had finished our meal. One plate still had 2 pieces of pizza sitting on it. The staff member also cleared all the glasses from the table and did not ask if we wanted another drink. It felt very very rushed and quite uncomfortable. Food 10/10, Service 5/10.

Not sure why this is listed as top 15 restaurant on the Gold Coast? It was ok, pretty average overall. Service looked like a student that did not know much about how to do table service. That started to show when he butchered to top of the wine bottle struggling to open the cork. After that, I was not surprised that I had to keep refilling our glasses myself. Food did not arrive together and the started that we ordered arrived at the table 5 minutes after the mains. The taste of the food (we had pasta and pizza) was average. The pizza base was a bit soggy and not as crispy as you would expect from a wood fire oven. The pasta was very al-dente and the pork belly was hard to spot. This might be a hype place for the young crowd but if you are after a good dining experience I would not go there.

We dined at Justin Lane for my friends 21st birthday party on Tuesday and had booked for 18 people.
When we got to our table there was a family of 5 squished on the end- there was no room in between them and our group and it was just an overall strange and uncomfortable start to our evening. Fortunately the family offered to move to another table when we had an additional 5 people join. This should have been managed by the waiters instead of them feeling obliged to move to a free table next to ours.
My husband and I have specific dietary and had eaten before we went out, thinking we would be able enjoy the night and just have a couple of drinks to celebrate our friends birthday.
We spoke to our waiter about the situation and explained our dietary and this is where the problem started to escalate. The manager was rude and inhospitable, we felt like we weren't welcome and we're told that everyone has to pay the $40 per head for the banquet menu if they sit at the table regardless if we eat or not after we asked if we could spend $80 on alcohol instead. The manager stated that our only options were to either leave, sit at the bar away from our friends or pay the $40 for my partner and I for the set banquet - which despite the waiter offering to cater to us we were only served a small serving of olives, tomato and mozzarella and a bland salad (for $80).
The end of the banquet was super rushed, the waiter said something along the lines of the kitchen is closing soon so we're sending out all the dishes so you won't get as much. Our table only got one of each pasta dish (which I think worked out to be 4 pastas to share between 23 people) on top of the pizzas which was disappointing for our friends.
Overall, the service was horrible and inhospitable, food was disappointing and overall experience was a let down. The situation definitely could have been handled better by management, the tone and the language used was rude and belittling and the worst I have ever experienced. I'm not usually one to complain, however I feel as though I had to share as I have never experienced bad service like that before.
Definitely don't recommend for large groups or people with specific dietary.

Firstly, thank you for taking your time to leave such a comprehensive review on your recent dining experience with us.
I sincerely apologise if you left feeling disappointed after dining with us on your friends 21st birthday party. Our guests experience is incredibly important to us and we are sincerely sorry if you felt like your experience didn’t live up to your expectations.
On that note I would like the opportunity to explain the scenario from our perspective - coming from a restaurant manager’s position with the hope that you will gain a better understanding of why the situation was dealt with the way it was.
1: Table allocation:
The host of the reservation had originally booked a table for 18 guests, which was confirmed over the phone on the day of the reservation. The table was therefore allocated on to a table according to this number of guests.
To get to the nitty gritty - We allocated the booking on a table which has 3 tables combined and holds a maximum capacity of 28 guests. As you can probably understand, we are in the middle of peak season which means that we will do our best to balance the best way possible to achieve a full restaurant ( not turning down incoming bookings) - and accommodate our bookings in the most comfortable way possible. When your party showed up we had already allocated a small family of 5 on the end of the table, which in all due respect - felt very uncomfortable when your party showed up unannounced with 23 guests (5 extra guests than confirmed for). Without notifying our staff or our manager on duty you all tried to squeeze into the rest of the table (allocated for 18 guests) , making the family next to you quite uncomfortable - which is why they reached out to staff and management and asked to be moved to another table. This situation was then dealt with within a timeframe of 10 minutes and we managed to offer you the entire table to your booking exclusively and the family another table.
2: Set “feed me” menu: At the time of making the reservation your host of the party had already confirmed and understood that we work with a set menu for all group bookings of 9 or more people at the table (this is our standard house policy and common among many busy restaurants). A confirmation email and call had been made on the day of the reservation to confirm all these details. When the party showed up with 23 guests your waitress explained that everyone at the table had to dine on the same menu. As this was not respected by the additional guests, your waitress had to seek the assistance of a manager who respectfully explained that this is our house policy and that the alternative option was to wait at the bar and join them at the rooftop bar after their dining experience.
In regards to your dietary requirements both your waitress and manager explained that we can cater for all dietary requirements on the set-menu. However we do not and will never accept offers of paying a tab on alcohol instead of dining - when sitting in the restaurant. For this reason we suggested you could have drinks at the bar instead of dining. At no point did we suggest for you to leave the venue.
3: Dining time: The reservation was booked at 7:30 pm and after having dealt with above, your food order was placed around 8 pm. As our restaurant was almost entirely empty by 9 pm we made the call to close the kitchen. Your waitress then asked you politely if you would like to add any more mains to the table (as it is an all - you can eat menu) which we then catered for. At no point in time did your waitress or management try to “rush “ you out of the table. We sincerely apologise if you felt that us asking you to add the last couple of meals to the table was taken that way, but I can assure you that this was certainly not our intention.
With all this being said, we do apologise if you left felt feeling disappointed and we would love to see you all back again in the future.

My evening was ruined and I will not return again. Went out to dinner and was unaware that for bookings of 9 or up you had to order a set menu for $42. I advised the waiter that I wasn't able to pay the $42 I was not aware it was a set menu. The staff member was very rude and lacked in customer service and was very unsupportive of the situation. When we said we would just leave so the other guests could order an optional menu they said they couldn't allow that. We all had to pay the $42 where many were unaware this was the case but the restaurant were very demanding. It was an extremely embarrassing situation and very uncomfortable. I was forced to pay for a meal and did not eat much food because of the confusion and another friend felt very unsettled over the experience. My social night was not the same after dealing with the staff and having to feel like I had to voice my position who clearly didn't care about wether or not this was a viable option for their customers. It was a big downer. The bench seating also is very user unfriendly and cramped.

My partner and I attended Justin Lane for dinner on a Saturday night. We did not make a booking, but we were fortunate to be given a bench seat downstairs by one member of staff so that we could eat dinner. From there onwards we were barely looked at. We were quickly given menus after being seated and but were not attended to after that for at least 20 minutes (we began to time after we noticed it had taken a while). Finally got someone’s attention, but she wasn’t working in that zone and told us to order at the bar if we were getting impatient. Went up to the bar and we were told to take a seat and someone would be over shortly. All this waiting and there were only 3 or 4 other tables in our area! Finally the person that initially seated us saw we were still waiting. Kudos to her, she took our order and helped us, even though she wasn’t working in our zone either. However no one else wanted to help us at all. Food was good, however the overall service was a real let down. Very disappointing considering we were looking for a nice dinner.

Popular and well known by the locals it is one of many situated on the highway strip at Burleigh Heads. Parking is a disaster even on a weekday early evening so walk, Uber or allow an extra 15-20 mins prior to your bookings to find a spot within 100-150m of the restaurant. And you must book and you must finish within your 2 hour timeslot. You can either sit downstairs in the Cafe, or in a corridor or go upstairs to an open roofed balcony.
The food menu comprises a small selection of pastas and a larger selection of pizzas. There is also one chicken meal available. The drink menu is large and lavish. The food was OK but doesn't standout against other nearby cafes.
Go for the ambience l guess and probably better to go on a sunny day for lunch.

I thought it would give it a couple of months before I wrote this review. Last dined with Justin Lane 10 days ago - normally I eat or take away from Justin Lane once a week and have done so for over 5 years.
Not entirely sure what’s going on at Justin Lane but I’m finding the service and even the pizza has lowered it’s usually very high standard. I’ve been speaking with someone from the social media account who was going to follow up an inquiry I made after three bad experiences in a row, over December/January. Unfortunately they stopped responding.
The establishment itself is fantastic - such a great experience for tourist and locals. I just wish they would pick up their game and provide consistently good service and food every time so that everyone could get the experience I used to have at this venue.
Some feedback: the pasta and pizza kitchen need to communicate better to ensure meals are brought out close together, the floor staff struggle with larger crowds and the bar service is very slow, there needs to be quality control with the pizza as it has been a hit and miss lately. Although I haven’t dealt directly with the one of the managers, (she?) needs to be more receptive and open to diners requests and complaints.
Still, I will dine here in the future and hope that it improves over the coming months.

I travelled from Brisbane to try out Justin Lane because I heard so many good things about it on social media. I made a booking online and was hoping to get the rooftop. I didnt realise how many little sections there was but we got put into the restaurant near the rooftop and there was no people in there so it wasn't really a vibe. I knew it was really busy everywhere else but gave it a crack and told the waitress we got engaged last night and they did everything in their power to get us up there. We were even lucky enough to score a fabulous ocean view near the bar! Dinner was really nice, there was live music and we even got a couple of free shots from the bartender. I thought that was really special and we appreciated it soooo much! Thank you so much JL! I'll be sure to let people know how awesome you guys are!!

I was told their pizzas were still as good as they used to be back in the day (when they first opened) and was craving a quality pizza. What I got was the worst pizza I’ve ever tried to eat.
The potatoes were still raw, there was absolutely no sauce, the cheese was definitely not buffalo mozzarella, and the gf base was like cardboard but with less flavour. I nearly took it back after the first bite but didn’t. I figured the guy making them wouldn’t be able to make a decent replacement if he was happy to serve that rubbish to customers. It cost $27. What an embarrassment to this establishment. I see good reviews of this place and I wonder if they’re all alcohol-fuelled. I brought the uneaten pizza home and even my teenage sons couldn’t eat it which speaks volumes to how bad it really was. Never again. Honestly, what I got today was nowhere near a pizza.

Was really looking forward to my meal with my sister and out families but left underwhelmed and rather lighter in the hip pocket.
Pretty good vibe eventhough seated on hard, rickety benches.
Cocktail and drinks menu was solid.
The gnocchi came cold and was a considerably small portion. And my pepperoni pizza, while a good size, was pretty bland.
We didn't have starters or dessert so dropping $260 on 7 average meals and a few drinks was pretty disappointing.

Best. Pizza. Ever.
Genuinely- best pizza you could ask for! However, I would recommend getting the food take away because the environment was not so great. Everyone we dealt with was pretty rude. We went for a nice dinner, and it was not the right environment. We had a waiter that was very hostile and we didn’t get very good service. The music was very loud as well (and we are in our early twenties so that’s saying something!)
Other than that, the food was absolutely amazing, so it’s worth a visit to get takeaway!

We are locals and we thought we would try Justin Lane. We found the pasta ordinary and the pizza dry without much meat for a meat based pizza. When we left the dark haired waitress at the door asked us twice in a rude and aggressive tone if we had paid. I ended up showing her the receipt. We are in our late sixties and we try to support our local restaurants by our patronage. We felt quite insulted and we won't be back. We think there are better Italian restaurants on the Gold Coast.

Left this restaurant so unhappy. The service was slow. The pizza was the most horrible pizza I have ever had - and my partner loves pizza. It was so dry and flavourless. Expensive for the food. The menu sounded delicious but the food was not good at all. Caprese salad was one tomato sliced with 3 basil leaves and 4 dots of cheese on top. This is not a Caprese salad. $25 for a tomato is ridiculous! Will NEVER return to this restaurant. Will never advise anyone to go here. Have been on the gold coast for my whole life and this is the worst rip off of all time. Foul food. Bad aircon. We told the girl before we paid that the meal was terrible and she seemed disinterested.
