I celebrated my birthday with my wife and decided to have one day short trip to Katoomba. Just to get away for the Covid19 blues. The restaurant was easily found and because of covid restriction, they manged the table well apart and follow strict to health protocol. Their popular 6 course meal was attractive but we decided to go for the 10 course to try more of their offerings. Well, we were glad that we did because they were all very delicious but we struggled to finish all the food. Their menu started with delectable entrees and they were all meticulously presented. You can tell a lot of effort to have different sauces in each of the dish. If we have to pick a couple of dishes, they would be the beef cheeks which was prepared in 48 hours and it was so tender and the rich, full of flavour jus with other acidity element to balance it out. There is one sweet corn but it was so fresh and char grilled to perfection. The salmon was exquisite done with many interesting elements, the crunchy fish skin, the ginger and lemon sauce and the fish was cooked in perfection. Services are attentive and professional. Most of the courses was explained in detail. The kitchen also willing to adjust the menu based on the diet requirement and the alternative options were no less than the main menu. thoroughly enjoyed it. The 10 course menu was $120 pp and it was value for money for sure.

Thank goodness I booked weeks ahead as it was fully booked for the weekend. It is a set degustation menu at $80 per person, with dietary variations. The matching wines were $40. We had an early seating of 5:45 p.m. and had a leisurely finish at almost 8:00 p.m. We were not rushed, service was pleasant and chatty and our matching wines were explained in detail. The bread roll was warm, accompanied by truffle butter. The zucchini flowers with ricotta were a great start. The beef cheeks were so soft and tender. I wished there was bit more truffle mash as there was only a smear of it. The Moroccan spiced lamb (although slightly fatty) cutlet was just superb. We finished with two desserts, a panna cotta and a delicious sticky date pudding. We took home the petit fours. Great place to dine.

I came to this place 2 years ago to a wedding reception of family members. As I was on holiday I invited the couple for a dinner as it was a few days before their second anniversary. We booked and I would think booking is a good idea as the place is not too large and it is a very popular place. I had Belly Pork, one had Kangaroo and one Beef Cheeks it was all very special we had Apple Pies and Panna Cotta for afters, some cocktails and wine There is a slight surcharge for. credit card payment which now is illegal in the UK. I paid in cash in any case. A very good meal and evening

We had made a booking for 28 guests for lunch for my grandmothers 90th birthday. I’ve never actually written a google review before but believe I have never ever in my life experienced such POOR customer service. I had made a cake for her 90th birthday and we had called ahead to check if this would be ok (which it was). Beside this fact we also ordered three courses for the 28 guests. The cake was merely a token birthday gesture and the place would not lose any money whether we had it or not. When we arrived and asked where we could place the cake the chef was so rude and said there was no space in the kitchen. Granted it is a small kitchen however why is it such a big deal? He actually then closed the kitchen door on us (as customers wow!). We then spoke with the lady who was managing the floor (she had a red bow in her hair). This also was such a problem for her and she said she knew nothing about it. Every request we asked her for it was like the world was ending and it was such a huge deal. All of the floor staff were the same “Could I please have another bottle of wine?” Eye roll after eye roll. We had two small children with us and there was no accommodation made for them everything was a problem even down to ordering their meals. Their meals came out last. After spending three hours there they wanted to get up and walk around (we filled the entire restaurant except for three other tables at the front of the restaurant where they were nowhere near us). Eye roll after eye roll and at one point the lady with the red bow said to my son “get out of the way”. Never have I ever experienced such poor customer service. We have dined in hatted restaurants many times with the children and have never been treated like this. It’s such a shame as the food was absolutely fantastic and I would hands down definitely go there again for the food but after the way we were treated I will never go back to this restaurant again. So disappointing as it’s really not that hard to be kind and accomodating especially when this is your bread and butter after all this is the hospitality industry. After reading other google reviews today I now see this is a common problem with this restaurant. Customer service is not their priority.

We were very disappointed to hear that your experience was poor and are very sorry. We were also surprised as the feedback from all the other guests was very positive, with a large tip given for the service as well as us receiving an email from a guest the next day thanking us for such a lovely lunch. We regret that you did not have the same lovely time that the other guests did. We always strive to give our guests a wonderful experience and regret that we did not do so for you. In the interest of clarity, there are a few points I would add to your review. When you went into the kitchen you said you needed to assemble the cake and needed some workspace in the kitchen to do so, as opposed to just wanting to store the cake in the kitchen. Many guests bring cakes that we happily store in our cool room, however for a number of reasons including space, safety and liability concerns we are unable to have diners working in our kitchen. Our apologies if the chef was not very chatty with you but when you came into the kitchen wanting to discuss this the kitchen was cooking the food for your party and the rest of our full restaurant and were very busy, as well as us being unable to keep the door open as it allows drafts and cold in that effects the food. As the lady with the red bow, you asked me about being allocated a space within the restaurant to assemble the cake. Unfortunately, we are a very small restaurant and were fully booked for lunch and did not have a spare table that we could allocate as a workspace. We were aware that you were bringing a cake and this is never a problem, however, we did not know you would require workspace to finish assembling it. If you had of told us we would have let you know we were unlikely to be able to provide this service. We too were disappointed how the lunch went for your children. We regret that you were not happy with the menu provided for your children, but this was pre-orded by the host. We also added an entree, dessert, milk and other drinks to what was pre-ordered to try to please the kids. We are sorry that they were unhappy with what we provided. I think perhaps there was misunderstanding as to what your expectations were. Your group had two tables in our restaurant that was offering our usual restaurant service to many other diners. It was not a "function" as such where you had exclusive use of the space to allow children to run freely. Unfortunately, contrary to your review, your children were not seated quietly for three hours and then walked calmly around. Throughout the service, they were not sitting down and were running around the restaurant with no supervision. At one time your daughter took her shoe off and threw it at one of our waitstaff hitting her while she was carrying hot food. I too have young children and know they can be fussy, but the way you left your small children run in and out under servers legs while they were working is really dangerous and does impact the comfort of other diners. We have over half an acre of manicured gardens that would have been perfect for you to help keep fussy children occupied which would have helped avoid the problem. I did tell your son to "get out of the way" when he was standing in the doorway of the kitchen. This was after I asked him a number of times to "Please move sweety" to no avail and no assistance from an adult. I probably could have been more patient, and for this, I apologise, but having no adult around when a young child is making their way into our kitchen, and polite requests are ignored, I did get frustrated. We are really pleased to hear that you enjoyed the food. We are very proud of the quality of our menu. I can however, understand that you won't be planning a return visit. We are upfront in terms of welcoming well behaved and well-supervised children and accordingly have a children's policy clearly located on our website. Our policy does seem to be misaligned with what you are looking for in having the kids unsupervised and allowed to run around. Running the risk of sound like a smart alek, Im not sure what hatted restaurant is OK with your daughter throwing her shoe at staff. It does seem more likely to me that your children may have been better behaved / supervised when you visited other restaurants. I am sorry again, that we were unable to provide the type of experience you were looking for and wish you all the best in your future dining.

My Husband and I came here a couple of years ago and loved the food and ambiance. Since then there are new owners so we excited to eat here again. The place looked lovely and inviting. They had a 6 course degustation menu which looked amazing. And you would expect that for $80 a head plus drinks. The food was quite good. I was disappointed at the start of the meal, and it sounds petty, but every other table received a bread roll for each person and we received 2 small thin quarter slices of bread. I actually thought it was because we went for the 6 course not 10 course but that would have been stingy if it was true. All up the courses were quite nice and we were full at the end. However, what let this place down was the service. I had to ask for our glass of water a couple of times thru the meal to be topped up and I had to pour our own glasses of wine from the bottle. This would have been fine if it wasn’t such an expensive meal. I think degustation, I think fine dining and great service. There was enough staff around to cater for the tables being used but not once did any of them ask if we were enjoying our meal. Disappointing. Sadly not sure if we will be back

Nice food spoiled by owners attitude, we called to book for dads birthday, 5 in total including a 9 ur old who is very picky. We asked could we pay for the 4 adults but have an extra chair as the 9 ur old wouldn’t be eating. The answer a blunt no as every chair is valuable. We then sat the whole night beside one lady who had the table to herself. Anyways undeterred 4 of us went the food was lovely even though 3 of the 10 courses were cleansers or desserts. As it was an early sitting we asked the waiter to pull back the curtain so that we could enjoy the beautiful view of the misty garden immediately he tried but was stopped short by a snappy snooty lady who appears lecturing us about how they are noise cancelling curtains and the stay closed. We then realised Ms Snooty Jody is the owner who was sitting at the next table with her noisy kids, presumably that’s why they need the curtains. Anyways it was a great birthday even though the youngest won’t remember it. This Resturant could really be improved if Jody wasn’t on booking duty or taking up a table in the middle of the Resturant with her kids interfering with the customers. Well done staff for maintaining a food sense of humour.

We hadn’t been to Pins for 4 years and it was an even better dining experience! We opted for $80 per head tasting menu with 6 courses and each offering was delicious and beautifully presented . The little extras , house baked sourdough and petit fours, were a welcome addition to our dining experience. The service was efficient and Covid seating made the experience even more enjoyable. Looking forward to our next visit!

My partner and I dined on a Saturday evening with a booking for 6.30 pm. The welcome was warm and genuine. The menu is excellent offering a range of dining options as well as dishes. The service was attentive, courteous and professional. The dishes we ordered were of exceptional quality. The wine list was excellent. I cannot recommend this restaurant highly enough. Finally, the owner/head chef visited our table as he did with other diners, to thank us for dining at the restaurant. Outstanding.

After reading great reviews I was looking forward to a romantic evening with good food with my partner. Unfortunately our experience was very different to what we had expected. We arrived to many of the tables being set, we were happy to wait, however could see several tables available. I asked if it were possible to sit in the dimly lit section of the restaurant which the waitress explained would not be possible since their were booked guests. I pointed out that our booking had been made several weeks ago and since it was just the two of us I thought it wouldn’t be a huge issue to shuffle it around. The manager rudely told me to ‘walk around and tell me where you would like to sit’. She didn’t want to accomodate our request at all and made it very obvious. We selected to have the 10 course degustation and paired wines. It was very underwhelming, with little imagination or flavour. Some meals were scorching hot and others cold, with no real stand out flavours. The pork belly and beef cheeks were both really dry. From the wine pairing selection, it was obvious no one really understood how to wine pair well. Most of the wines were from last years vintage, making it appear there had not been much effort in creating a creative and well paired wine list. From a guess, I would say the wine pairing selection was based on price per bottle. The waitresses didn’t know the wines, rather, could provide a generic ‘Sav Blanc has fruity flavours ‘. I was better off reading the label on the wine myself. Some of the waitstaff were lovely, however, they were inexperienced, and unable to explain the courses or the wines. For a fine dining restaurant, I would expect to see immaculate uniforms and hygiene in the waitstaff, however, this obviously is not necessary given one of the waitresses was wearing a dirty pair of skate-shoes. The lighting in our section of the restaurant was lovely, but for the main dining area the fluorescent lighting didn’t set a nice atmosphere. It was lit similar to McDonald’s restaurant. Typically, for a restaurant carrying a hefty price you’d have your meals served on beautiful plates. Instead the meals were served on plates you’d find at a buffet, RSL. From the start of our meal, it was obvious the maître de was unimpressed by our request to sit at a table that was set. She did not greet us, ask how our meal was or talk us through any of the courses. Instead, when my partner returned from the outside amenities she slammed the door behind him and grunted. A very arrogant maître de with no personable skills at all. It appears she has been in the industry for to long. Overall our experience was uninspiring and we won’t return. If you are after something fine dining, this isn’t the place to go.

Easily the best meal we’ve had on holiday in Australia in the past three weeks (including Melbourne, Port Douglas & Sydney). The restaurant has a relaxing ambience and isn’t too big, menu was varied with several dishes I fancied, staff were very knowledgeable about the menu and able to make good recommendations. Excellent wine list and wines well paired with dishes & happy to allow us to sample different wines before choosing. Kangaroo main was tender and delicious together with well judged vegetables. Cheesecake dessert was light and not overly sweet - perfect. Overall highly recommended. Even the story on how the restaurant got the name “Pins” made me laugh!! 😄

The reviews of this restaurant were good and it did not disappoint. We got in just before the COVID-19 closures, and were warmly greeted for our early sitting. With only 25 guests allowed the staff were very attentive, and every one warm and friendly, with knowledge on each dish. We did the 6 course tasting menu with paired wines. Every course was brilliant. Little extras delighted, and while it was lots of food, not too much. The scallops (so often overlooked or rubbery) were amazing, the pork and lamb courses so good, and the desserts surprised, with the caramel cheesecake having a strong salt flavour through, stopping it being overly sweet. A really special night, and although not cheap, well worth it.

We booked at this restaurant based on its reputation (one hat and great reviews) however the overall experience was a little disappointing. To start with, we were seated for 10 minutes before someone came to get our drinks order. The restaurant was actually at half capacity due to social distancing restrictions so I'm not sure why it took so long. My entree was served 10 minutes before my partner's and i actually had to ask where his was before it was chased up. Not great for a hatted restaurant. My zucchini flowers were nice. The wagyu was very tasty, recommend that dish. The pork belly was fairly good. The biggest disappointment of the night was the salted caramel cheesecake. It tasted like whipped salty butter. I didn't get more than two mouthfuls through before i gave up. Overall, I would not book here again for a fine dining meal.

My fiancé and I attended for our engagement dinner and were met with a hugely warm welcome from all staff. The maitre'd, Leon, was jovial and generous, particularly in taking some photos in the stunning gardens at sunset before our meal. The ambiance of the restaurant was cozy and romantic, set in a quiet and intimate space with homey touches, including candlelight and a decorative fireplace. The chef catered to our dietary requirements without batting an eyelid, and we were touched to receive a plate of congratulations after the final course. We had the banquet paired with wines, which was spectacular. Such a range of colourful flavours and delicate presentation, with an ideal selection of wines from near and far. I tend to avoid the word 'perfect', but for us, this experience was just about it. I am sure we'll be back for a future wedding anniversary!

We were so looking forward to trying the restaurant again and supporting local business. Unfortunately on the day of the booking, 4 of our party of 6 had to go into isolation due to COVID rules. We immediately contacted the restaurant to advise and, as no one answered, we left a voice message to cancel. 30 mins later we called back to be told that they had booked our table of 6 with another waitlisted group of 5 so they would charge my credit card with $80 for the 1 person missing. The conversation continued with the lady (owner) talking continuously over me and finally saying : “it may not be your fault but it’s not ours either. When you signed up to make the booking you saw it was 48 hour cancellation policy”. When I politely tried to point out they already had a replacement booking and…. in these times … it could be a sign of goodwill to not charge for 1 person as the cancellation was not through our choice, she just hung up! I honestly wasn’t being rude or angry. Several times I had heard the food was good but the service was questionable but I thought I would try the restaurant on its own merit. Unfortunately, what I had heard was proven correct. My experience wasn’t just “questionable” it was rude and unfair. My advice is don’t book here if you are at all concerned about service. It seems quite unreasonable for a business to ask for local support when they don’t demonstrate support for their customers. Of course, in these uncertain times we will not book here again and, with a number of other restaurants to choose, Pins on Lurline will not be our choice.
