We had a nice dinner here. I got the Wagyu rendant beef curry and my partner got the vegetarian baba Curry. The dishes were delicious.
I got the Caipiroska and she got the Pinot Grigio. Caipiroska wasn’t amazing but the Pinot was really good.
The service was good overall even though they were very busy. The only thing that was slightly annoying was when we chose to pay by card, the waitress left the card reader with the tip options for me to choose. It is awkward to say no so I out in 10%, however unlike in some countries, I was told Aussie waiting staff don’t really look for tips as they are well remunerated and is not in the Australian culture.
It left a bit of a bad taste…

Busy restaurant with a nice buzz from the various groups enjoying their food - booking is advisable.
Varied menu with a good selection.
Had the pork mince and it had a nice spicy kick, others had chicken and prawns and the plates were emptied.
One of the group had Pad Thai chicken and asked to take home some as the portion was generous - a $3 charge for a box was added to the bill which I thought was unnecessary and unwelcome.
Still have the restaurant top marks as the food was good.

I chose Sugarcane for my birthday dinner as the food has always been phenomenal. Asian inspired food, always finger licking good! Recently the restaurant has changed the seating to timed bookings. One and a half hours max and then you are ushered out. We wanted to order "the special" steamed prawn dumplings. There were 6 in our party and only 4 pieces in the entre size for $20. We offered to pay $30 for 6 and were told "no". So we ordered another entre 4 King fish and 2 crab and apple tortillas. The tortillias never arrived and we had to remind our waitress - they arrived when the main meals arrived. Main meals arrived but papaya salad never arrived. Food was still great, but service was lacklustre and wait staff seemed run off their feet. Wines were expensive. Seeing as it was a special occasion I left feeling disappointed. Sugarcane still serves great food but service lacked lustre and the new introduction of timed table sittings means we won't be coming back.

I really don’t know why this restaurant rate that high, the taste of dishes were not good at all, I think it’s becos many aussie go there, they might hv no idea what is a proper good food taste like. Expensive n not worth to go again. Only the location is good.

Sheer excellence in every way. A warm greeting at the door, even though we hadn't booked, quickly seated on the enclosed, heated, balcony. We opted for the "Trust Me" menu where the server decides what you will eat, once dietary and allergy preferences are taken into account. What followed was probably one of the best meals we have ever eaten, with bites, small plates and large plates presented to us. Every course had a wow factor, and a little bit of theatre with it. The service was on a par with the food - attentive, knowledgeable and friendly. Even the music was interesting and enjoyable. Thank you guys for a very special evening.

Visited Wed Jan 8th 2025. Wow! Entirely fantastic. We had a kitchen view table and the entertainment watching the knife skills and perfection from the ‘Raw Fish Chef’ was fabulous. What a cracking team in that busy space. We tried a myriad of bites and the flavours were next level fantastic. Every single dish was a total gift for the senses. Great service from the greeting at the door to the super efficient head Bar Guru - she was a treat to watch. I only wish we lived closer or they could open another in Victoria!!!

We had lunch at Sugarcane a week ago and I’m still dreaming of the food !! We were a party of 3, that included a year old baby. Nothing was too much trouble. The waiter bought some prawn crackers for him too eat while we read the menu. We picked a few meals too share, all absolutely delicious. The waiter was awesome. Very good customer service. I could not fault anything. Just a perfect lunch at a very good restaurant. My only problem is that I live in Melbourne and can’t get back there ASAP to have another feast. Definitely on my go to places in Sydney to eat. Great spot too !!

We were staying in Coogee and simply came across this restaurant on a Sunday evening walk (headed for a pizza somewhere). Looked interesting and a friendly waiter quickly had us seated in a spot in their outside area. A great looking menu (not extensive but still hard to choose). We went for their special (chicken dumplings) plus salt & pepper squid and green mango salad. Each dish was special - fresh, tasty and each with their own distinctive dressing. A fantastic meal, washed down with a chardonnay from Orange we'd never heard of but will now track down. Recommend highly.

During my walk through CoogeeBeach I came across this restaurant. I went there for lunch. Taken a Rendang. Delicious, well-cooked meat and by European standards you get a lot of meat. Easy if you want to share. I was alone and had to work for a while. But with a delicious sauce and simple steamed rice. Chose to sit outside despite the somewhat chilly weather. Extremely nice staff. It was a GREAT lunch. (Was lost $52 with coke and coffee)

Book early if you want to eat here. We loved the food - it seems a bit expensive but the serves were huge, much bigger than the usual Asian restuarant. We found the service and time for serving very quick. their poular s]dishes must be ready to go as soon as ordered, so maybe this isn't the place for a slow romantic date night.

Food was absolutely beautiful. Couldn’t fault it. Being hurried out of the restaurant was disappointing. Had the tasting menu, my partner and I couldn’t finish the food infront of us before more food was placed down. We only had half a bottle of wine and the bill was placed down infront of us and told the next seating was about to arrive. Definitely don’t go here for date night or if you want to have a conversation between mouthfuls.

Despite the number of constant turnovers this has to be the best run establishment we have been to in ages, the food so fresh and totally delicious with all individual ingredients so well balanced and the very best of waiters you will find anywhere.
We had our very young well behaved grand-daughter and waiters were great with her too. A memorable evening and wish we lived closer to go more often.

Fantastic food and excellent service. Had the banquet, every course was amazing. They also asked about food intolerances and preferences on arrival, each course explained, waiters very attentive. Overall an amazing meal and experience.

Just fantastic food. Yes, it is expensive, but look at the location. Don't take any reviews about price seriously as Sugarcane is in walking distance to 100 other restaurants. The menu is easily available, so you should know what you are paying before you walk in.
We had he "Trust Me" menus and it was some of the most flavoursome and imaginative Asian food I had ever had. We booked as it was a convenient place to meet, we left having really enjoyed teh meal.

Great location. The level of service was good. The waitress Emerson was very pleasant
I was disappointed with the selection of dishes offered on the menu, not a great variety. Both my companion and I found the food a bit too sweet; we did make a comment on this to the waitress.

Very accessible by public transport, Coogee is the smaller, friendlier, more intimate version of Bondi Beach. Coogee is the only beach in the Eastern suburbs that does not have big waves, making it an excellent family beach. The Coogee Bay Hotel, located right across the beach, has one of the biggest beer gardens in Australia and plenty of entertainment every night of the week. Be on the lookout for celebrity footballers! A little further south is Wylie’s Baths, offering sweeping 180 degree views over the Pacific Ocean, and it is perfect for a swim or a few laps. Plenty of dining choices surround the beach, including the famous fish and chips.
