Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Based upon the reviews, we were expecting Khao to be an excellent choice for an early Christmas family lunch but found it didn't live up to its reputation on many fronts. We regularly frequent Thai restaurants as the light, fresh style of cooking with fresh herbs and spices is compelling. Khao dishes we selected generally lacked the zing and WOW factor that sets great Thai restaurants apart...whether it was the whole fish in ginger and herbs, through to the entree and mains...nothing was memorable. To top off the average food, the service was perfunctory and we had to search out our wait staff several times for service and the bill. Expensive for what was served up and they don't have bathrooms...we were directed to a nearby shopping mall.

Hugely expanded into the premises next door but have had one bad takeaway experience and one okay dine in experience since then. The takeaway was honestly just awful so was quite shocked by that (one salad was actually inedible). However, I do think that was an anomaly so don’t let it turn you off. They’re extremely helpful and friendly and willing to please if you dine in, so I think they’re on the right track. Certainly it’s always packed so that speaks volumes!

Out of all the Thai restaurants in Chatswood, this one is my favourite. Their recently done interiors are more appealing. I would recommend advance booking for dinner over weekends or you could end on a long waiting list. I like their papaya salad and fried barramundi. Not a big fan of their drinks or desserts. You can give them a pass.

We have been here before and always enjoyed beautiful, fresh food. Recently, we made the journey to Chatswood and were very disappointed with quality of food. The squid was so salty and oily with only a tiny amount of it served. The massaman curry consisted of 1 raw potato, 5 pieces of stringy beef and a 5 inch piece of cassia bark. The pad Thai was tasteless and had only noodles with minimal meat or veggies. The only saving grace was the pork belly which was cooked well. Will probably never return due to this very disappointing night.

Recently visited Khao Pla a week ago after a two year hiatus and my wife and I were hoping that it would bring good nostalgia from our past visits but sadly was a disappointing experience. They were relatively quite for a lunch period (sadly common across the restaurant industry due to COVID19). But despite being quite, they've managed to mixed up our order with the adjacent table's (whom arrived well after us) thus jumping the queue ahead of our order! I've raised this with the staff and the explanation was that either the wait staff or the kitchen staff had mistakenly swapped the ticket and had cooked the order for the table adjacent to ours first causing long delay before ours hit the table. Overall flavour was well below past experience with the Green Curry dish containing a rather dense oil consistency through the dish which we've never seen before. The Crying Tiger beef was a bit on the chewy side. Rest assured we won't be coming back any time soon.

Even though my last review was published last June we have made many more visits. I decided not to review after each visit as people may think I’m on their payroll 😏😏 Today’s visit was a bit disappointing as the Thai Green Curry was full of bamboo shoots (never had this before). Now we like bamboo shoots but realise the purpose of this was to bulk up the serving. Somewhat mean minded I think. Hopefully on our next visit we won’t encounter this again !!! Maybe it’s dependent on who is cooking on the day !! We will be back and with a bit of luck will get a different cook on that day.

Terrific food at very reasonable prices, with a BYO option as a bonus. Buzzy atmosphere and clearly everyone was enjoying the food and ambience. Wait staff were friendly and the food was promptly served, but the only minor niggle was having to ask 3 times for water and twice for a wine cooler. First visit, but not the last!

Firstly let me say the quality of the food and flavour was probably one of the best I have had in a Thai restaurant in Australia. However only 2 stars as the quantity of protein in the duck and pork dishes was ridiculously small. And they asked if we wanted our entree and mains together (?Why) and we said no. Had our entrees then when the mains arrived it was super cold. No doubt they had cooked it all at the same time. Wine was ridiculously expensive too. Definitely BYO for value. And the spring roll starter was horrible. Cold. But meant to be cold I guess. I wouldn’t have ordered if I knew it was a cold entree. It’s a shame as the flavours were great! Stop scrimping on the protein!

My go-to restaurant in Chatswood. Fresh and tasty every time, the menu has great variety. It can be a bit noisy but I think only because it's always busy, a testament to the great food. So make sure you make a reservation, but if you don't it's worth a bit of a wait. The eggplant entree is my favourite, also the nashi pear softshell crab salad. A good mix of rice, noodle and curry dishes.

We had two dishes - the duck and pork belly with steamed rice. This was sufficient for two of us and both dishes were superb. The waitress was very helpful answering questions relating to gluten for my daughter and she was very pleased to be given such helpful service. We went during the week and had a lovely, long dinner over a couple of glasses of wine.

Requested sea shells which came broken and prices were crushing my teeth The drink came too late after I already finished my food which was useless and I had to ask for it twice the prices in the menu is not the real price. You will get an extra 10% for service and then another extra 1.7% for credit card. Wouldn’t go there again

Inside the shopping centre this is a hidden gem. Excellent meals, from a very large range and good service. More limited range of beers but good sake. There is good seating and the speed of food delivery makes it a quick process. We had 4 meals, drinks and a couple of sides for just over $100. That is great value for the excellent meal we had. Will be returning

Love this restaurant so much, staff are great and the food is consistently good. I really should stop recommending it as every person I have sent there has now made it a regular eating place. Makes it harder for others to get a table. Only one negative, it’s very cold inside so remember to take a jacket in the cooler months.

If you love spicy food then this is the place for you! Amazing food. Must try is the Som Tum (tears) Ribs (not spicy but wow) Spicy Fish and Pork Belly. Ruined me for any other Thai... unless I’m in Thailand! Just go.

First time I’ve been. The food was great. We had a selection to share including pear salad, green papaya salad, ribs, panang curry and steamed fish. All we’re delicious and very reasonably priced. Will definitely be back. Good to go with a group to try different things to share.
