About
The Plough Inn dates back to 1864, it is claimed Ned Kelly had ridden his horse down the main hall of the pub, while that may just be a tale, Ned did work in Tarrawingee and it is said that he and his gang would have a drink or two and would sit on a knotted wooden bench which is still here today(ask to see Neds bench!

I needed a nice country pub to hold a wake for a very special man. I didn’t know anything about the staff or the quality of food etc at The Plough Inn but they were very obliging and opened for a Tuesday to suit my needs. Fingers crossed all would be ok. Well I certainly didn’t have to worry! We had a large crowd of thirsty and hungry people being a lunchtime wake. The Plough Inn is just a small country hotel but the layout with their vast beer garden with shady tables was perfect. There was room at the front of the hotel for the alpha male gathering to remember a greatly respected and sadly missed old mate. The remainder of the gathering had plenty of seating in the shade of the trees out back. The food requested was simple finger food , Asian and Typical Australian nibbles. The pub’s kitchen is closed for renovation but they still managed to pump out some delicious pizzas! The staff were absolutely under the pump with such a gathering of drinkers but they smiled all day right to the last drinks. They were the most caring and cheerful group of hoteliers I’ve met and they are all a credit to their enterprise. I thank them from the bottom of my heart for giving my man such a perfect send off. Support them if you can , these people really deserve to flourish in business.

Needed a good lunch and nice glass (or bottle) of rose and was told it was a good place to visit. It’s a quick 12 minute drive from Beechworth or Wangaratta and we’ll worth the trip. Greeted at the pub by the owner Phil and such a nice guy. His chef Michael came out and advised us on the food available. We chose asparagus wrapped in a slice of prosciutto and with a tangy dipping sauce. Amazing!!!!! I want a main if this :-). Then followed by their parmi. I had chicken. My wife a vego version. Both wonderful with fresh salad and chips. Huge serve so go hungry. Topped off with a great bottle of Eldorado Rose on ice. We ate outside under a huge wisteria so nice and cool in January. Well worth a visit and if you do I’m sure you, like me, will become a regular. Thanks guys for a great mid week lunch.

This rustic pub is nestled in the Wangaratta/Beechworth Rd. There are plenty of choices on the menu that offers delicious meals of generous portions at reasonable prices. The wine list is exceptional and full of choices from quality local wineries. Relax with live music on a Saturday and Sunday afternoon in the picturesque leafy shaded beer garden. The friendly hospitality of the owners and staff make you feel very welcome !

Today two of us ordered lunch at ThePlough Inn Tarrawingee. We both ordered Pork Belly with Roast Vegetables. We ordered this meal because we were keen to have the roast vegetables and this was not what we were served with. The vegetables on the plate seemed to be boiled vegetables that are purchased frozen from the supermarket.....except for three small potatoes that appeared to have been boiled and then placed in a pan for a few minutes to obtain some colour on one side. The owner came to our table and asked about our meals. We nicely informed her that what we had been served was not that which was written on the menu and that we had chosen this specific meal on the basis of the vegetables. She said sorry, mumbled something else that we could not understand and left. So, as each meal was $28, it cost $56 for two pensioners to have a square of pork belly and some frozen, then boiled vegetables.

Had a few parmies out there over the last 6-12 months which were pretty ordinary and talked wife into going out there again on parmi night just gone. Booked ahead thinking there was going to be a crowd and wouldn't get a table but after we walked in and sat down we realized we were sitting in almost empty cold dining area (apart from 2 kids plaing on their phone across from us). The "Parmi Night" is a bit of a pharse as they have different categories of parmies all at different prices and only the almost bare parmies are what they advertised as their $15 parmies. Anyway, wife and I ordered the basic sauce and cheese (no ham) with chips and salad. Parmi came out 25-30 min later and the crumbs were all very soggy with the actual meat of the chicken cold in the centre and very hot on outer parts and just didn't smell right. Was this soggy unusual tasting half cold half hot chicken parmer with the wilted salad leftover from Sunday and simply reheated in the microwave then shoved under a griller to melt the cheese, we will never know and will never know as we will not be returning the here again however, the service from the lady was really good.

This historical hotel in tiny Tarrawingee is serving great food in a wonderful atmosphere. Had four different meals, parma, flathead, salmon and steak. Two of the meals were chosen from the smaller portion options on the menu. All meals perfectly satisfying and of excellent standard. Don't miss this experience if you are in the area.

We were planning to catch up over Easter with family that we hadn’t seen for 18 months ( thanks covid) and looking for somewhere chilled, comfortable for adults and kids ( little and older) with good food and beer. We searched surrounding areas and found the Plough. Even better, we could park our caravan next door which meant we could sit back and have a few beers to celebrate. We booked for lunch and ended up staying for dinner! We even stayed another two days!! Ending the evening about 10pm. Great music, incredible staff and good food! We will def be back. Thank you guys for a very beautiful and very chilled few days staying under the vines ;)

Sitting under the beautiful, aged, huge wisteria, enjoying a stunning chilled local Rose wine and a Chicken Summer salad and fresh - yes, fresh Flathead, chips and salad listening to great live music. Honestly who can ask for more. Awesome country pub, brilliant service by the young crew, Phil behind the bar - don’t miss it!

Beautiful pub and quite good food ( although they need better and more vegeterian/vegan options)... The owners were so cold and unfriendly on arrival and all the 5 guests who were with our group experienced the same.We could not believe their attitude. I have travelled extensively for 35 years in Australia and Overseas and have never ever experienced such cold and unfriendly people. They have had the pub for 2 + years and need to quickly learn a few skills in hospitality, customer relations and how to smile and be warm to paying guests. I sincerely hope they will dramatically improve their attitude and how they speak to guests and wish them a positive future.

A group of 8 of us went for lunch and the food was really nice. We all had a mixture and we were all happy with the size and the taste of them. The staff were friendly. We sat inside but outside was lovely and pretty. Would recommend for a meal or even just a drink.

We heard good reports so went for lunch. The wait was extremely extensive & the food ordinary.. Not a lot of flavour. Quite inexpensive. I think the place tries to cater for too many people.
