Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We were lucky enough to secure seats for Marksie's fourth last night before he hangs up his camp ovens and goes into retirement... A thoroughly enjoyable and pleasant evening of yarns and camp cooking under the open sky. Marksie is gentleman bushie, story-teller, story-collector and...open fire, camp oven chef. His dampers were magnificent and the stew was next level, flavoured with an assortment of bush herbs, fruits and foods. Some of the best billy tea I've ever tasted... So sad that this genuine experience will not be continuing after next week... Travel well in your retirement Marksie...More

Thank you so very much, for wonderful review, but sadly no-one wanted to step in the old mans shoes and carry it on with their own stories. A bit of Australian history sadly being lost for Katherine. so glad you enjoyed your night. Safe travels.

Had such a fabulous night at Marksies last night. The stories were very entertaining and immersive. I felt transported back to 1922 and experienced a little of what life would have been like back then. Marksie also has great memories of special guests that have...visited. The story of the Israeli young man touched my heart. I hope he is still safe and happy in Australia. Then the meal arrived, i am a vegetarian and am normally a bit apprehensive to attend something like this. My sister booked it and assured me their was a vegetarian option. I figured I'd get a plate of root vegetables they put in the beef stew. I was more than pleasantly surprised when i was served the best vegetarian lasagne i have ever eaten! The spices and herbs that are all local bush spices were so tasty and delicious. Do not hesitate to visit if you're vegetarian. Even the meat eaters at the table were interested in the vegetarian option. They loved their beef stew too. Marksie, Penny and the other staff were amazing and attentive. I even got up and had a go at spinning the billy, my Dad would have been proud. Marksie was encouraging and made it easy. Thanks for a wonderful night!More

The food was average. Some interesting flavours but nothing special. So then you would think the entertainment should be top notch to compensate but it wasn't. The Bushman stories were dull, even crass. Talking about Wave Hill station and not mentioning the walk-off is doing...an injustice to our history.More

While it was unseasonably raining the night we attended, the setup was immediately captivating for both ourselves and our kids. Marksie greated us and straight away we could tell he was a great host, a charismatic storyteller and that we were in for a great...night. The dinner was delicious, the kids were fully tuned in to all the stories told and enjoyed patting the hand reared wallabies. The stories of Australian bush camps brought a great reality to the conditions endured in those days. Marksie had many stories of tale from his guests overtime, but we most liked those of the bush, bush camps and bush tucker. As a side conversation he told us of his work to train RAAF pilots on bush survival should they need it, and such stories were enlightening and enjoyable. The kids all got involved with the billy tea swinging ‘championships’ and loved the certification they each received afterwards. Would thoroughly recommend while he is still running the business in 2022!More
