A welcome return to great restaurant dining in Hervey Bay

This is the second time we visited-had a very nice lunch just after it opened in April . we were impressed with the food and experience then. We used to go to The Vineyard before it closed last year and the chef from there has opened Banksia and the food is up too the same standard. The old Pub has been very nicely renovated and necessarily spacious The four of us had three courses each and wine and it was under $300 - so very good value for such high quality food and it was all beautifully presented. Wait staff were attentive and pleasant, no name badge though We’ll definitely be going back soon

Great place for family lunch/dinner for Hervey Bay visitors

Great choice for family lunch after driving Esplanade. The restaurant is beautiful and inviting. (We just loved the name!) The staff who looked after us was friendly and informative to help us choose our food. The price is expensive compared to other restaurants around it, but we were very happy with what we experienced. My entree prawns were something that I hadn’t had for a long time - just beautiful. My husband’s pork belly was so soft and tasty. I wonder how they made the sauce. Our daughter had mushroom gnocchi which had a rich flavor. Eating great food makes our trip experience a lot better and we are happier. Definitely Banksia Seafood And Grill will become the part of the best Hervey Bay experience.

A destination restaurant

We enjoyed very attentive wait staff, great local seafood dishes, a fabulous view of the bayshore walking trail, in a chic, beachside setting. The Hervey Bay scallops on a bed of hazelnut dusted parsnip puree were outstanding. We recommend.

I went out for dinner with friends. We ordered steaks, seafood chowder, grilled salmon, and fish and chips. For the price we paid and the meals we got, we don't have interest to come back again. They also served salt in a little open disc to share (maybe not that covid-19 safe). My $18 pinacolada tasted blend and I told the staff at the counter when I paid for the dinner, she basically said they will do better next time with no apology. The atmosphere was nice and the waitresses who were serving us were nice too.

Hi there, I am sorry things were not up to our intended expectations. Our prices reflect what we source locally and cannot always compete with others who do not... . In regards to the concerns about the salt, these are freshly presented at each table and thoroughly cleaned between each, in many ways it is much cleaner than having a shaker at the table, and we take all Covid19 restrictions and practices very seriously. The Pina colada could have been remade at the time of tasting if you let your Waiter know of your concerns, we will work to train staff to check at more regular intervals so you could have had more opportunity to raise concerns earlier. Thank you for your review we do hope you give us another chance in the future.

Food and decor good but seats

Food and decor good but seats too hard on older bodies. Plus they had a group of 12 and because they had to be served as a group, we waited 20 mins before they took our meal order and waited another 45 minutes before we were served our meals of steak and chicken. Need the option of cushions for seats. Husband could hardly walk when we left.

The waitstaff should advise you that the chicken can take around 40 minutes and as you had a larger table it may have taken the kitchen a little longer than usual. I will be sure to remind our staff to let customers know of the wait time again for this dish. We apologise for the seats, I recommend to request a booth at the time of your booking for extra comfort next time.

Good food, noisy but likely good for a famiy

3 star dining with a 4.5 star price menu but interesting enough! Oysters were brilliant and I was impressed with the Kilpatrick we had in addition to our natural. Scallops were also quite well done. Moreton Bay Bugs were a little over cooked but still a good experience. I was disappointed that the mains arrived before we has finished our Entrée and generally found the service to be a bit ordinary. It is certainly a VERY noisy venue so perhaps picking a later time slot may reduce this imposition. For $250 for a couple I feel the value is a little less than reasonable.

We are always training our staff to have high level of service so we apologise that this night these did not reach our usual standard. We will look in to more training in future. We like to source our seafood and fresh produce locally, so the prices reflect this quality, however we do like to keep our prices as competitive as possible. The noise has been an issue and we have been working on ordering ceiling panels but due to current times, we are finding it difficult to acquire the right materials.

Seafood chowder the best ever

Have a birthday this week so decided to bypass my regular eating place for Banksia . I love chowder and had heard it was good at Banksia and I was not disappointed. It was probably the best outside of the maritimes in Canada As a solo diner I had a great table with a view and the service was relaxed and friendly. I’ll be back. There was a bit of a muddle with the order of food but that was handled graciously and I really appreciated that

Great service & food

We live locally & decided to have lunch here as a celebration... We were greeted & served by Sophia who did a wonderful job. The seafood chowder served in a cob roll is a meal in itself. Following that, my partner had the panko crumbed prawns which were lovely & I opted for the fish of the day which was 2 really nice sized pieces of fish, with chips & salad. The atmosphere was bright & airy & we opted for inside. Unlike several other restaurants, the tables are not crowded

Mixed feelings

Hubby had the steak ..it was tiny ..very well cooked but very small just not enough for hubby..I had the chicken and found that with the 3 sauces it really didn't know what it was ,very confusing flavour wise .my daughter had the duck she said it was lovely light and fluffy and plenty of flavour. My uncle had barra and chips. The batter was very good as was the fish. Would we revisit..no mainly because of the small portions..its seems a high price $44 for a tiny steak ...well cooked but tiny none the less..

Great lunch!

We had a great lunch with a group of friends. The seafood platter was one of the best I have had and huge portions - add a side or two and share with your partner! My husbands “blue” steak was perfectly cooked. Chocolate cake dessert was perfect, a wonderful combination of sweet and tart, just deliciously decadent without being heavy and sickly sweet.wines were good and the service friendly and efficient We will certainly be going again 😊😊😊

Hervey Bay's premier restaurant, hands down

This restaurant consistently delivers a high quality experience. The head chef, Saul is the owner. His 2IC chef Matt can handle the kitchen when Saul is not there, no problem at all. There is a variety of seafood and steaks and other morsels to tickle your taste buds. The drinks menu is extensive and competitively priced. The service is impeccable, my exceptional favourite is Bri but they are all well trained and skilled operators. Jodie, Tyoni and Saul's wife Alicia are superb. The music is appropriate and impressive as is the facility. Make sure you book for dinner, they are very often booked out. Thankyou Banksia for showcasing our region!

Thoroughly enjoyed ourselves

We were greeted at the front door and quickly seated. They were quite busy and we had to wait a little for the menus and other than the wine misunderstanding, all went well. The service was friendly, cocktails were delicious and the food was great. Oh those Moreton Bay bugs - mouthwatering! The steak meals were tender however the salad could have been a bit more than a basic green salad. The Affogato dessert hit the spot and ended the night well.

Sides Let the Main Dishes Down

Living local, hubby and I decided to treat ourselves to lunch at Banksia. While the food was tasty, the portion sizes do not reflect the price - $40 for Barramundi, chips and a small salad, $75 for Moreton Bay Bugs, chips and small salad. Service was fine and drinks were fairly priced. The setting inside is more like a cafe rather than a restaurant. In summary, the sides let the dishes down and I think more thought could be given to what the meals are served with.

Delicious food at an amazing price

Ate here twice over the last couple of weeks and we were super impressed. We sat outside with our little dog and from the food to the service and the location, we couldn't fault it. Calamari, lamb, pork, prawns, and an amazing seafood chowder all were spectacular and you won't get a better price anywhere.

Disappointing

I hate writing negative reviews, so this won't be one. We were simply disappointed. Having been to Banksia on a Thursday evening 4 months ago, were really looking forward to the same experience. The restaurant was soul-less and almost empty compared to our last Thursday visit when it was full. Perhaps its the new eye-watering prices or the pared back laminated menu. I mean $15 for 3 oysters, scallops or prawns, $72 for a 300g steak or $75 for 2 bug tails (around 100g of bug meat). For LOCAL seafood when you know what the ingredients cost, in this market, just no! The food was tasty and very well presented but one doesn't expect fellow diners to suggest calling past the Macca's drive-through on the way home because, for an average of $70 per person for 2 courses, one was still hungry. Of course, nobody did! Staff were transactional, not the friendly, funny and helpful staff of the last visit but there again, I certainly understand staffing issues.
