On the day we drove from Christchurch to Picton, we already knew we must have a meal at Nin's Bin. They are famous for their fresh seafood, especially crayfish and mussel. We arrived nearly 5pm. I saw their caravan parked by the street alone, but there were no crowd. I was a little worried. When we found out that they... More

We broke our journey here on the advice of some locals for an early lunch. It is s caravan seemingly set up in a beach side car park. You come here for the fresh crays but the chips were pretty good too. We sat at one of the tables in the sun and watched the seals on the nearby rocks... More

Over the years we revisiting this little bin to have fresh cooked crayfish. However the price goes up every time we revisit... We did not buy any for the first time when we last visited Kaikoura, simply because it was too expensive...

We had a cold crayfish with lemon here. It was delicious, cooked perfectly with firm flesh, excellent taste. Some of the best seafood we ever had. You can't beat the location. But for seafood sold out of a caravan, I have to say that we got a shock when we saw the prices. I'd read one of my favourite bloggers... More

I was very disappointed from when I walked in seeing blowflies everywhere. There was a lady out in a car who I thought was a customer and then in she walked to serve me. On the menu board there was 3 items to order from - crayfish/lobster, mussels and chips. There were no chips and when I asked for the... More

This place, a tiny shed selling crayfish, is an institution. The following is some history: "Nin's Bin has been a favourite stop for kiwis heading up the coast from Christchurch to Kaikoura for many generations. The menu is simple - crayfish and mussels. Pair the freshness (picked straight from the sea) with reasonable prices and unbelievable views (teal green ocean... More

The location you cant get any better, right on the waters edge, it's not every trip we stop in but only as a once now and then treat as the price is getting high for a small crayfish.

You have to stop at Nin's Bin if you are traveling between Picton and Christchurch...fabulous!! Don't be thrown off by the shack-like appearance...inside is sparkling clean. Shelia helped us pick out our fresh "crayfish" (lobster), then steamed it with some garlic butter. We also had a bowl of mussels...YUM!! the food was made even better by sitting ocean side on... Nins Bin was first estabilished in November 1977 as a roadside caravan selling fresh local crayfish. Still to this day it offers just that, right next to the beach for an ulitmate New Zealand experience.Only a 20minute drive north of the Kaikoura Township, it is a perfect stop off point to either dine in or take a crayfish away for your enjoyment later on!
