After being recommended we tried this for seafood given Kaikoura is a seafood town. Entree was an expensive Calimari dish and I was very surprised to see 'no brand' Calamari rings on the plate vs proper pieces you get in most restaurants. Seafood chowder was...a 5/10 once again with supermarket garlic bread vs anything decent. Then the mussels....must of found the smallest Greenlip mussels in NZ. What a rort. $80 of food that was worth half that. Never again.More

Fabulous feed for our final night in Kaikoura, thank you sooo much. The fish of the day, gurnard, was perfectly cooked along with delicious veggies. Hubby had the Hog roll, OMG it was the best! Great service and friendly staff. Remember to book!!

STOP RIGHT THERE….. I gotta know right now… Do you 💕 me ????? It’s an absolute YES !!!! I do believe that I have just had the most delicious meal of my life. The crumbed cunard fish was absolutely superb. The accompanying sauce and vegetables...were perfection on a plate. A lovely setting, with faultless service and a just enough variety wine list ensured for a superb night out.More

We wandered in without a booking expecting a half empty restaurant and simple Pub Grub. The restaurant was buzzing...on a Autumn Tuesday night...great sign !!!! The restaurant has a lovely ambience, the fit out is elegantly understated and everything is spotlessly clean. Service was attentive...and informed and staff well presented. The menu was extensive with an excellent range of fresh seafood. The whitebait was generous and declared delicious. My crayfish showed great mastery by the chef...it was superbly cooked...any less and it would have been under...but it wasn't...it was perfect... tender, moist and flavoursome. The lemon meringue pie was delish. All in all a great experience. Thank You. We will return !More

We were suggested The Pier by the staff at The Kaikoura Boutique Hotel when we asked where a good place for crayfish was. They didn’t disappoint! The whole meal was delicious, starting with the pumpkin and ginger soup that was divine. The cray was cooked...to perfection and the list of local craft beers was extensive. Thoroughly enjoyed the meal (and the “bouncer” that greeted us at the door - beautiful dog). Will be back and would absolutely recommend this establishment to others.More

We booked here for dinner as we were staying at the anchor inn and got recommended. Very glad we came here as the food and service was spot on. Went in, got a nice table by the window which over looked the Ocean and picked...the half cray meal. Was big and amazing. Chips were great, salad was great and the Crayfish cooked to perfection. We had the apple crumble for desert which I highly recommend!!More

Great place on the sunny day, with a good choice of food, and seating by the water. Service was friendly and quick and the food good. Watch out for the gulls who want to share!

We visited earlier in the day for a beer on the lawn in the sun and just knew we wanted to come back for dinner when we saw the menu. The ambience of the dining room is really special - recently done up. The menu...has something on there for everyone. We enjoyed the seafood platter as we watched others having the famous Kaikoura crayfish, fish and chips and lamb shanks.More
