Literally the best our family has ever had. Light and not greasy. Met some locals and ended hanging out for over 3 hours having wine and friendly company!! Must go to this place!

The Pier hotel is a large restaurant and bar at the end of the bay, overlooking the sea and the mountains. It was busy and popular with locals. Despite a sign as you go in which says booking is essential we were shown to a table. There were quite a few large groups of people so it got a bit... More

Wooden floors can make it noisy - food and service were great. Popular with the locals Try the fish fillets or the pork.

Excellent food and pleasant surrounds. Went with a group and all were positive about the food. Service was friendly but not anticipatory. Would go again.

We stayed and dined here. The rooms were clean and tidy, and what we'd expect staying at a pub. They also provided help yourself breakfast. No cooking facilities but that was ok being able to dine at the restaurant. That was delicious! The kid devoured pizza and fush n chips and hubby and I enjoyed pork ribs and steak! Worth... More

We arrived late into kaikoura and were a little exhausted from the drive. It was suggested we just head to the pier hotel save traipsing all around town. It was packed when we arrived (which is always a good sign) but found a table fairly quickly. The service was awesome ...so accommodating and friendly. We had chowder and fish and... More

We both had mussels, we took french fries together with that. It was so good!!! As a Belgian, you don't often eat mussels that are at least as good as the ones you eat in Belgium: congrats for that. Of course, the price was not so cheap, but most of the restaurants over there are specialised in seafood, which is... More

My husband and I decided to go for a Friday night 'date night' and we weren't disappointed by the yummy meal at The Pier Hotel. Fresh fish with seaweed and orange salad, a starter of kumara and pumpkin croquettes drizzled with a satay sauce...and finished off with an oversized meringue for the Kiwi Pavlova. Service is always friendly. Thank you.

The location of this restaurant is spectacular-amazing view of the sea and mountains, and great kids play area. But that really is it-the food was terrible, we had soup of the day- celeriac and apple which I am sure was just watered down pumpkin soup from a tin! Seafood chowder-average, two kids pizzas which were a soggy base with far... More
