With so many good lunch spots in Thames, this is certainly one to give a miss! A date scone with lumps of Bicarbonate of soda in it and a microwaved pie, that was meant to be steak and cheese, but was mostly mince and cheese. Slow service (and we were the only ones there). Also a staff member who looked... More

I've been here often in the past, and went yesterday because it was a lovely day to sit outside with a coffee. Coffees were excellent, and though we didn't eat anything on this occasion, I can wholeheartedly vouch for the food as well.

Stopped off on route to Coromandel. The Kumera rosti with spinach, salmon and poached eggs was particularly balanced and delicious. For UK folks, kumera is a denser, more flavoursome sweet potato compared to the South African import variety we are used too. And versatile...The scones looked good too.

Visited Chequers Cafe (note spelling) on a very busy Saturday morning - it was Thames' 150th celebrations with a street market, classic car parade and many other activities so the own was very busy. Chequers was a peaceful oasis right in the middle of the throng, with a table free in the really pleasant courtyard at the rear. Good cabinet... More

It's actually called Chequers Cafe but from the address, this is the same place ... between the Plumbers shop and the Cinemas. The four of us were heading to Hot Water Beach and were passing through Thames on the Coromandel Peninsula. We needed fuel so we decided to have a coffee and snack ... as we drove down Pollen Street,... More

Occasionally visit this cafe with friends, the food and coffee is in the range of average to good and the outdoor space at the back is very pleasant and relaxing, away from the bustle of the Main Street

We enjoyed a leisurely breakfast of muesli for me and scrambled eggs for my wife. The muesli was a good size serving with bananas and blueberries, a pot of yoghurt and a small jug of milk. The eggs were perfect and served with a slice of toast. The pots of tea (for one) had enough for two cups and a... More

We were looking for somewhere to have lunch. The courtyard caught our attention. We were greeted with a warm, friendly smile and reassured that the breakfast menu was served all day. I chose the Potato Roti with Mushrooms. My wife had the Kumara version with salmon. Both were wonderful! We sat out in the courtyard at a table that was... More
