We visited this restaurant for the first time and enjoyed a number of taste sensations.
The restaurant is situated at the end of an arcade and looks unobtrusive from the outside.
The main seating is styled around a central kitchen which allows a view of the chefs at work. There are a few of independent tables away from the bench setup.
The restaurant is quite small, which is probably the main reason for two dinning times. We felt that the restaurant, although configured like other Japanese restaurants, lacked ambience and atmosphere.
We were offered two menus and chose “Micki’s Complete “ Degustation menu, which had many tastes to experience. Each of the 6 major serving groups were attractively presented and were a delight.
Although the wait staff explained in detail what was presented, we had to follow carefully, from left to right, the menu listing to be sure we fully understood what we were eating.
The chef kindly cooked one serving as my partner does not eat raw foods. Thank you.
For us the warm entree and main groupings were the standouts, and my partner felt the Peach and Rosemary sorbet was very nice.
We did not elect the wine paring but chose a bottle of the Cape Grace Chardonnay, which happened to be a paring choice on the menu.
The service was very good, from the welcoming by Maree, to the other wait persons who were well trained and educated to explain in detail the ingredients of each tasting. Very well done to recite up to 5 tastings!
In summary, this dinner was memorable experience and challenged our taste buds. An efficient production kitchen with a well organised team. Recommended.

We specifically asked to be seated at the kitchen bench overlooking the preparation area. Cuisine was first class with a Japanese influence. We went with the "whole hog" on the food menu but elected our own drinks as we weren't familiar with the Japanese drink menu

Wow - this guy has it sussed. 2 x sittings and not many food options but great food and a great experience. You sit around the kitchen and this well oiled team pumps out very small bite size samples of many many dishes. We were really satiated by the time we left.
My wife loved watching all the prep happening. They also went out of their way to accommodate our food preferences. They simply modified each dish to avoind what we didn't want but that was really impressive because almost everybody gets the same food. So they just modify what you get and didn't make a single error. The wait staff knew the ingredients of each sample on our plates - even though they had been modified. Very professional and highly recommended. Not a budget friendly place to eat so be warned. Not bad for what you get though.

Third time lucky! Finally managed to book a spot here far enough in advance that it wasn’t fully booked out! Strongly suggest that you make a booking here as soon as you have a date planned to visit Margaret River - you won’t regret it!
Japanese style fusion degustation menu that incorporates the best of local WA/Margs River produce and beverages. Top rate service with well informed waiting staff, warmly welcoming decor, and super comfy seating, adds to the pleasure of taking a taste journey that incorporates numerous bite size morsels of delicious goodness! Mrs B opted for the wine match, while I was keen to expand my experience with the sake match. Both worked very well together, and we each had our favourites that shined above the rest. The same could be said about the food too, but in all honesty, there was nothing that we didn’t really enjoy. Our highlights included the sheep’s milk halloumi, kinoko miso soup, ocean trout, Abrolhos Is scallop, cured duck breast, all the main dishes, the charcoal noodles in ramen broth, and the obaachan ice cream dessert.
If we’re ever fortunate enough to get in a second time, I’m insisting on a seat that edges the kitchen, just to take in more of the care and preparation that goes into each dish. Bucket list restaurant for sure.

What an incredible dining experience! It may not seem like much from the outside, but once you walk into the restaurant you are immediately immersed in a creative Japanese culinary journey. All of the staff were very prompt and professional and provided impeccable service that lacks in Western Australia. We loved how each dish was passionately described in detail and how the plates were so sophisticated and beautifully presented. The food was delicious and fresh, and it was obvious the produce was seasonal and well selected. For me the best touch of the evening was an apology note from Miki explaining he would not be present in the kitchen that evening as he was traveling. To me it was personal and thoughtful, and a reflection of a respectful and caring character who truly cares about every element of his restaurant. I will recommend this restaurant to all of my family and friends and hope to return on my next trip back to Australia. To the team and Miki, keep up the amazing work!

We have eaten at Miki's several times now and have always thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. Small portions of locally sourced food with intriguing sauces and presentation styles. Japanese fusion with tempura forming a portion (and only a portion) of the meal. A typical plate in the 8 course Miki's Complete Meal will have 5 or 6 small bites, each unique and different and prepared with care. We have always chosen the Miki's Complete (everything on the menu) and have not been disappointed. The wine pairing adds to the enjoyment and complexity of flavors. This is fine dining and for us a relatively expensive and special occasion restaurant but one we recommend highly if you are a foodie and want an exceptional experience. You will greatly enjoy it!

We are local to Margaret River and dine regularly at Mikkis. Due to the restrictions on restaurants we ordered Mikkis take away service and found the quality and taste to be just as high as when we dine in.
Well done Mikki and crew

This place is just amazing, they have two seatings one at 6:30pm and the second at 8:30pm. Please make sure you book in advance as this culinary delight books out fast. If you love Japanese food, well you are in for an adventure of the taste buds. The staff are very friendly and have a full knowledge of the foods as they are presented to you. Explaining each dish that is sourced from local seasonal producers from Margaret River. The two of us had the Miki’s compleat degustation menu and this allowed us to have a seven course menu with the pairing of wine or Sake for an extra cost, we had both and well worth it. I especially loved the Sake matchings as it really did taste just amazing. I have added pictures of what we had from the set menu and each dish was definitely made with love. Thank you Miki for an amazing night. It was a wonderful experience for my Birthday. We are from Adelaide and We will come back to Margaret River again to have another experience again. Kind regards :)

What an amazing experience. I have worked in hospitality for 30 years and this was an out of this world experience. 7 course degustation menu which comprised of 24 different "sample tastes"
The staff explained each of these different tastes perfectly and the flavours, oh the flavours.
Do yourself a favour and go there!

One of the best experiences we look forward to when we come to Margs. The open kitchen is so interesting to watch, the service is outstanding, the sake slips down beautifully with each meticulously and deliciously prepared bite of food. If you love trying different things and love food definitely give Mikis a go......you will not be disappointed.

A curl of shallot marinated in vanilla? Perhaps a hint of vinegar. Amazing taste! So simple, so delicious. One of the many epicurean delicacies my hubby and I enjoyed tonight at Miki's Japanese open kitchen in Margaret River. My mind was in overload, trying to work out what ingredients achieved the amazing mix of favours I was experiencing. I was looking forward to tonight because of the restaurant's reputation, and Miki's exceeded all my expectations! Japanese owner-chef Mikihito Nagai is truely a Master of the kitchen (Shokunin), ably assisted by his outstanding team. My hat is off to all of them, including the excellent wait staff. Miki's dishes are strongly Japanese influenced, but use fresh local ingredients where possible. I can't even begin to describe the incredible blend of flavours and dishes we were introduced to. I don't have adequate superlatives to convey just what a wonderful taste sensation a visit to Miki's is. To my mind, this is the leading restaurant in the Margaret River/Dunsborough region. My only regret is that I haven't visited before. Some photos attached. I took quick snaps and didn't use a flash so that I didn't disturb other diners. Plus, I took the wrong lens for food closeups. So not the best photos, but you get the idea.
We missed our trip to Japan this year. Miki made up for it!
PS: Of course, the Sake was great! I enjoyed a Izumibashi Junmai-Ginjo 'Megumi Ao label', from Kanagawa, 42% polished, served chilled. I know very little about sake, and chose this one on the very silly basis that I've been to Kanagawa. Plus, it was one of the restaurant's recommendations. I'm learning more about sake, and developing a love of it🥰 .. but that's another story

The food was excellent. "Mini tapas meets Japan, in Australia" is how I would try to describe it. Above all, it is a personal menu drawn up by the chef / owner. There is minimal choice - but it is all good quality, cooked well. Pretty good value as well.
Why only 4 stars? First of all, the table we had (for 2 people) felt like it had been added as an afterthought. Then the service. I ordered a bottle of semillon sauvignon blanc from Margaret River. (No vintage on the wine list). When the wine came, it was from 2014. I asked for a more recent vintage - and I was then lectured all about wine by a French Canadian girl who was about 30 years younger than me. Have you heard the phrase, "The customer is always right?" Clearly, she had not.
Nonetheless, we would return. The food was that good.

This place is amazing you do have to book ahead so make sure if your heading to Margs book this place as soon as your plans are made and make sure you book to sit around the kitchen table. The staff are amazing and really know their stuff they have 2 seating times 6 & 8. The chefs are rock stars really what they dish up is art on a plate & taste is out of this world. They all work like a well oiled machine and it all runs so smoothly. We ate there one night and sat at a table & enjoyed the night so much we went on a wait list to see if we could return another night while we were still in the area to sit around the kitchen table. We did get the call and back we went & were not disappointed.

After missing out on the early booking at Miki's we made our reservation for the second seating at 8.15pm.
When you arrive, there is a thoughtfully provided waiting room to the left of the restaurant where you pass the time until the earlier sitting has vacated the premises. When ready Miki, himself, seats you and provides a warm welcome to the restaurant.
Our group of four selected the Complete menu with Wine Pairings. Each "course" consists of a number (from 2 to 5) of thoughtfully conceived dishes which are carefully crafted morsels delivered degustation style.
Behind the counter of the open kitchen, you witness a delightfully choreographed team of international talent preparing, cooking and plating Japanese influenced delicacies out of local ingredients. Nothing phases the Miki's crew tonight, with the rapport they have developed evident in the confidence of their service.
The food was at times sublime, with many of the 20-24 deftly prepared mouthfuls being memorable. Take the matching wines to fully appreciate the craftsmanship on display.
This is a knockout must-do experience in Margaret River.

5 of us had the Complete Fine Dining plus a bottle of Voyager Estate Project, Sparkling Chenin Blanc plus a few bottles of San Pellegrino Sparkling water. The Fine Dining foods served were all Delish. Top up with the wait person Ms Lilly was very accomodating & efficient in delivering her duties. Thanks Lill, may the good God bless you always. Keep it up, dear. By the way Miki's Open Kitchen is very popular in Margaret River region. Remember, advance Reservation is required to get a table.
