We had previously been to Milk The Cow in Carlton and loved it...
St Kilda, sister restaurant is as good.
Enjoyed the Baked Camembert with glasses of Sav Blanc
Could not have enjoyed it more, staff were great, attentive but not intrusive

what an afternoon. Tram from Melbourne to St Kilda and return, so simple. We opted for the small wine, and small sparkling, flight, because we thought we would then make our own 2nd platter. The wine and cheese matching was absolutely perfect. The staff were so informative and the cheese, meat and wine varieties were amazing and extensive. After your selected flight, choose one of the wines from the flight, or the wine list, and ask the staff to choose 2 cheeses of their selection they think will match your wine. Learnt so much. Enjoyed so much. Thank you

Wow. This place is fantastic.
Staff are so knowledgeable. Wine flight was perfect. Staff explained each wine with matching cheese. Ordered a couple of extra items such as olives, chutney, Prosciutto.
Staff are attentive and supplied extra bread and crackers when needed.
We really enjoyed our long lunch there.
We will be back…

This deserves a 0/10 rating. We booked a table for 10h45pm turned up at 11 pm and the Restaurant was closed. Two people wiping the front counter.
I can come to a few conclusions
1) The hours advertised are wrong and they are closing at 11 pm
or
2)The hours advertised are correct and the manager of the store closes it whenever it gets quiet. This may be news to the owners
or
3)That the booking system they use (Opentable) has incorrect time slots- one can book till 11h30 pm.
Thank goodness for Topolino's down the road that was open and served nice food to lots of late-night diners

Well... olfactory and taste anyway... but in a good way! An amazing array of fantastic cheeses from around Australia and elsewhere. All superbly presented and served by enthusiastic and knowledgeable staff! No need to be overwhelmed, just ask and they'll take you on a taste journey you won't forget!
Oh! and did I mention the wines? An amazing selection that again the staff are happy to guide you through and recommend to accompany the cheese board of your choice.
Our second visit.. own't be the last!

We visited tonight and had such a great time. It was busy, service a little slow but not uncomfortably so. Staff were knowledgeable, considerate and helpful. Such a unique concept and the produce was amazing. We had fondue, flaming saganaki, accompaniments, whisky, wine and more. A great way to spend a lazy Sunday.
We were visiting from interstate so unfortunately we can’t visit regularly but if I was local it would absolutely be one of my faves.
Great job guys! 👏🏻👏🏻

This review is for the St Kilda location.
Having been to both, I would say I slightly prefer this one.
But both have great menus, interesting wines, good atmosphere and lovely staff.
Highly recommended.

My party of 6 family members and friends booked a wine and cheese tasting at Milk the Cow, St Kilda, at 1PM to celebrate a special Birthday. The price of $55 for the sampling of 4 wines and corresponding cheeses was high but we accepted this deal. The experience was excellent and very pleasant, even when charged $17 for another glass of wine.
However, when we went to pay, we were informed that there was a 10% surcharge because it was a Saturday. When I challenged this, I was informed that most hospitality places in Melbourne charge a 10% surcharge on a Saturday- I claim I disputed.
There was no sign displayed "prominently, clearly, and transparently' at the entrance which I believe is required by legislation and which would give the customer the option of entering on those terms or not. Too late when the event is over. When I followed up my complaint, I was told the surcharge note appears on the menu which none of us had seen probably because it was in small print and not something we were looking out for. Not all of us even looked at the menu.
I believe the establishment had an opportunity and a responsibility to notify us of the surcharge either when we made the phone booking or on our entry to the restaurant. That would give transparency and enable the customer to decide beforehand whether they go there or not.
A most unfortunate ending to what had been a pleasant experience but one which we will definitely not be repeating.

On my third visit to Melbourne in December I insisted the night out was not complete without a visit to my absolute favourite place - Milk the Cow. This was my third visit and it didn't disappoint. The staff are always so friendly and helpful in making recommendations. They take their time to carefully explain each of the cheese offerings and are also happy to swap out one if you want to try a different one. The wines too are excellent and even after a meal at Chin Chin, we still found room for 2 cheese boards and copious amounts of wine. There is a very chilled vibe in the place and it is very welcoming. As soon as you enter the place you are made feel welcome by the staff and they do their best to accommodate your seating preferences. I have eaten some of my most favourite cheese in this spot and I will continue to visit each time I am in Melbourne as no visit is complete without it. Thank you for being consistent and maintaining great quality.
