Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.

Enjoyed the restaurant with great service from our hosts, Malcolm and Czes. The food is as good as seafood can get. The seafood platter represented a taste of everything wanting me to return for a full plate of the flathead tails! Given we had a large table the plating was as efficient as could be given the freshness of the plates. The drinks flowed as did the conversations. The venue, on this still balmy night, added to the ambiance and a great time was had by all.

After months of Covid19 confinement my wife and I decided to go for a drive to the Geelong Foreshore area. We stopped for lunch at “The Geelong Boat House” which had a 15% surcharge because it was Easter Saturday. It was busy and there was a delay to provide the food. We chose to eat outside on the upstairs terrace where there was a light breeze and sunny with panoramic views, photo enclosed.
The food exceeded our expectations. The chips and potato cakes (also called potato fritter, scallop or potato pancakes) were crunchy and full of flavour, the fried blue grenadier was finger licking good and the dim sims were also excellent. I am always prepared to pay for quality but I felt $8.05 for two bottles of water was too high.
After lunch, in beautiful weather with a light wind, we walked along Western Beach road past the skate park, ferris wheel etc..

I notice several of the reviews mention the need for an upgrade and the restaurant being under-maintained, but surely this is the charm of the place.
We ate on the porch overlooking the bay on a perfect day.
The food was delicious, the seafood salad being colourful and beautifully cooked and presented.
It is on the pricey side but well worth the cost.

I visited with my partner last Friday for a nice seafood lunch.
Instead what we got was so below the basic standard. Firstly, we ordered the grilled barra each and asked what it came with. Chips and salad. For a mere $28 it wants yo be good.
Not even close, barra was over cooked 2 small pieces, plate full of chips and a salad that a pub would be sad about. Dry lettuce mix wedge of tomato, slice of cucumber and spanish onion. If this is the best you can do l can understand why you had an empty restaurant. The locals will not support utter crap. Shame as the location is probably the best in Geelong. Obviously the photos on your website are from another era as ours didnt look anything like them.
Easily, beaten anywhere. Certainly not even worth trying.
Chef appeared when we wanted to pay the bill
and no uniform, appearance untidy. Sorry l wouldnt call yourself a chef. Take some pride in your work and show some love in your food.

We arrived just before they closed but were able to get the Seafood Feast for 2 and took it away to eat in our car which was parked facing the waterfront. Good quality seafood cooked to perfection and chunky chips as well. Pleasantly surprised at how enjoyable it was and we didn't have to endure the swoop of a seagull while we consumed it. Did not have a recommendation for this place but happy to give one now. Great spot for casual dining and if you want to have the experience of seafood by the sea. Service was quick and although we didn't eat in the venue has a nice overview of the bay.

Good quality fish and chips. Chunky chips and generous serving. A fisherman’s basket at $23 has two pieces of fish, a scallop, a fish stick, two piece of fried squid and one prawn. Ample serving of chips to go with it. There were ample dining space in the shed where you can enjoy your meal with soft breeze and no seagulls! Definitely a great place for a chill lunch or for families. There are also dining space on the outside decking both covered and otherwise.

Limited menu but Barra was quite fresh. Lemon pepper squid was also very tender.
We called ahead to order takeaway, queues can get long. Menu on their Facebook page, not website.
Quaint restaurant on a boat or picnic on the grass nearby. Parking right outside, take the turn at pier.
The tartare sauce is from a bottle, probably could do better.

Unfortunately it was really disappointing. Food was very oily. Light batter, but super oily.
Processed potato cakes and calamari rings. Small scallops and the flake was definitely a frozen pre cut product. Something you would expect to get from a food court baine / take away place. Hang on, no I have actually had better so Its not fait to say that.
The staff were very calm and polite although extremely busy, xmas holidays.
I cant help but think this is a tourist trap. The locals certainly would not support such crap expensive food. Buyer beware.

Hadn’t been here for a few years, so weren’t sure how they’d be but they were delicious. We had blue grenadier and the butterfish plus the 7 dollar box of chips. The fish was cooked to perfection, the batter was Devine and the chips were so nice we finished all of them,we usually wouldn’t eat that many chips. We sat upstairs with a wonderful view. Highly recommend this place.

A very below average, overpriced seafood platter. For $49, we got minimal seafood, some salad and lots of chips the seagull were given to enjoy. The building looks 1970s inside. Could do with fresh paint. Toilets downstairs. No, we would most certainly NOT go back again.

We checked out this cafe today and were very pleasantly surprised. We ordered the butter fish which was really really good and the fish was fresh. Can I say, the batter was crunchy , crisp to the last bite and nice and thinly coated. Wasn’t overly impressed with the potato cakes. They are obviously not made on site as they were all uniform in size. The batter had an unusual taste and was nothing like the batter on the fish. I don’t usually eat chips, but these were very good. Well done Geelong Boathouse.

Visiting from the other side of the bay bought the seafood basket. The barra was excellent, well cooked in fresh oil with a light crispy batter, though a little oily, but then it is fish and chips after all. The chips were plentifull but could have been cooked a little more for my liking. All in all a good cheap meal. Would definitely go back again.

Fast, friendly service is a great start - but the food was excellent. Good size serve of fesh fish cooked perfectly, chips were perfect. My only whinge was the tartare sauce, which was horrible, tasteless caterers stuff.

Was expecting a really good takeaway meal but was disappointed. Potato cakes were flowery and dry. Asked for calamari and was told that it was only processed rings. The best part of my meal was the scallops. Will try another takeaway next time.

For the most part, really impressed by the food here. Plenty of chips and the fish was really nice.
Unfortunately, being the holidays, everyone in Geelong was keen to test them out on a Saturday night. From the moment I lined up to when I got the food, it was a one hour wait. The staff weren’t just sitting around though, they just had lines out the door - literally!! The potato cakes were mostly batter and the fish, whilst tasting great was REALLY small. The pricing was also on the high side.
We’d come back here but maybe find a time that wasn’t so busy.
