We were attracted to this hotel and with $15 lunches you cannot go wrong. The menu had good choices and was cooked beautifully. My husband had the callamari with chips and salad and I had the chicken parmagiana. Very tasty and the calamari cooked to perfection. We had to sit outside as the inside limits were at capacity. Outside had lovely shade or sun as you wish and surrounded by lovely pots of flowers. Larger groups might want to book. Even smaller groups. A group of 3 older patrons left as restaurant was at capacity inside and too cold to sit outside. We loved it would def recommend and would def go again. Please leave a helpful vote 👍.

Under the current circumstances of Covid 19 this pub is doing a great job. We were greeted by friendly staff and promptly shown to our table after doing due covid diligance. Our meals were both a decent size and tasty. I had the duck red curry which wasn't overly spicy and plenty of shredded duck. My wife ordered the oven baked barramundi which was also delicious but they got the order wrong giving her a salad instead of vegetables which was immediately rectified. It was very hard to get a feel of the place because of the circumstances of our visit but i'm guessing they would be very busy at the best of times.

Just back from a few days in Echuca, we arrived in time for lunch and went to a pub for lunch and found the menu very expensive for a country pub after lunch we checked out some other eateries they all seemed price. The next day after reading tourist info at our B&B we put an address in the sat nav and drove to Hare Street wandered about, and came to the Royal and liked the prices on the lunch menu. We both ordered the steak my meal arrived hot on a warm plate the steak was full of flavour and tender. I have visited nearly 50 countries have experienced first class, the meal here was as good as I've experienced anywhere, and at a pub grub price. Staff efficient and friendly, plates cleared promptly went back the next day and the wine was half price. If I visit Echuca again I would go here again, better than the average and as good as the best in my experience.

Visited Echuca for the first time just before Christmas 2 weeks ago. Decided to have dinner at the Royal Hotel on our last night. Ordered the pork belly. Came out in two good sized portions with a large bowl of noodles. The pork belly was completely inedible. The skin side was rubbery and not cooked at all. There was so much fat around the pork that my first few mouthfuls I actually had to spit into the bin. I ate some noodles but could not eat the pork belly. I queried with the waitress whether it should have been crispy skin and she said she believed so and would check with the chef. She took my plate and returned soon after advising that the chef said it was cooked and the skin colour was pink due to marinade. It was quite clear the waitress also agreed the pork belly was raw. I told her that it was inedible, and she made an afterthought offer to heat it up, but I declined advising that heating it wouldn't change it. I emailed the hotel several days later to inform them of the incident and despite them contacting my dinner companion to clarify the issues, they did not have the decency or manners to contact me to discuss same. Extremely inconsiderate to a paying customer with a legitimate complaint. Total waste of money for a very disappointing meal, and concerning lack of action by management once informed. Would not recommend. Would give zero stars if I could.

Hi Mandy, We are disappointed to notice you’ve decided to slander the business in this way following our email correspondence regarding your time at 1895 The Royal. You, and anyone reading your post, will notice almost every single review over the past two years across Trip Advisor, Google, and Facebook, has promoted our excellence in customer service and highlighted our great food quality. Unfortunately however, while remaining professional, we have to step in and defend our business from this slander and bring some light to an audience who may be mislead by your comments. As explained to you in our email response to your complaint, the response you have suggested in your post never happened, no where on our menu do we suggest we have a crispy pork belly which seems to be the core issue here. Your claims of it being uncooked are simply false, our chef probed your meal and with 35 years experience as a chef, I will lean toward his absolute assurance that it was cooked as opposed to your suggestion based on the way it may have looked. You have made reference to us making contact with the other guest on your table, which is completely true. The reason for this is because we happen to know you and your dinner companion on a person level, the most disappointing fact for us in all of this. You and your friend even asked my staff to retrieve me from the kitchen so you could say goodbye. At no point during our farewell did you mention anything about your experience, rather opting to create a problem online and via email weeks later. I will make one point - we have never responded to a bad review completely defending ourselves and rejecting the claims made by a guest - this is absolutely a first and I’d suggest a last. In my email to you I offered a refund - I couldn’t do this on the night as you failed to bring the problems to my attention on your departure. I retract that offer wholeheartedly. Regards, The entire team and management at 1895 The Royal

In fairness we didn't get to eat the food so this rating is purely based on attitude. Despite being mid summer and high season we were made to feel very unwelcomed arriving at 7.15pm and basically rushed to order our meal by 7.30pm...we felt like we were imposing which was disappointing. Taken aback by the poor reception/attitude we finished our drink and went to the next pub where we experienced great food and hospitality in a very welcoming environment.

Hi there, Just to be clear about what happened here - you guys walked in at 7:15pm on our quietest night of summer, which was on a Monday, and asked what time the kitchen closes. We let you know it normally closes at 8pm and your response was that you would order at 8pm. Due to it being a very obviously quieter night than usual (which was explained), we asked if you would order earlier than 8pm (right on our close time), and the response from you both seemed as though you understood. There was no attitude on our end, but there was clearly no understanding on yours. If you felt rushed we apologize but the reasons for us requesting you to order slightly earlier than you had in mind were explained

The vegetables on another meal were raw leaving the 80 yea old not happy. The staff where pleasant and polite . we have been there before wiith only a positive outcome. We will go back lets hop it was an off day.

Hi there, and sorry it’s taken so long for us to respond to your feedback, it somehow slipped through the cracks! From time to time the wait staff will make errors on the dockets printed to the kitchen, so in the case of the children’s meal, that’s what’s happened here and we apologize. As for the beer falling behind the rest of the drinks, it was coming, however with the COVID restrictions meaning every table inside and outside of the venue required table service, we were at times up against it in keeping up. We were doing our best in very trying times with limited staff. Table service for drinks at lunch time is not a normal part of the way we operate. We apologize about the Aussie burger, we’re not sure what may have happened here as it is extremely popular on our lunch menu, one of our biggest sellers. But we passed this information on to our chefs to ensure they are aware of any opportunity to improve the quality. It’s a shame you’ve rated us 2 stars, you mentioned you’ve been in before with only positive feedback, which didn’t make it to TripAdvisor. Hopefully next time you’re in you can give us that 5 star review! Hope to see you again soon.

My wife and I have just enjoyed a fantastic meal at 1895 The Royal. Tonight it was Palma Tuesday and we both had the best palmas. They were a very generous size with perfectly cooked veggies and fresh salad. Barry the publican was a fantastic host and he has a great team working for him with a special mention of Tegan who was very friendly and efficient behind the bar. Thank you team.

We booked into the Steakhouse Restaurant the night before. Unfortunately there was a mix up with our booking, so instead of eating in the Steakhouse we had to settle for a meal downstairs. The reason we particularly requested the Steakhouse upstairs is because it’s a Restaurant where you get your own Raw Steaks to cook.. to your liking on your own Hot Rock!! We’ve had this type of meal many times before and it’s Brilliant! The Royal 1895 is a beautiful old place and it was chockers with numbers restricted to 30 Max at the tail end of lockdown. We gave in gracefully and as I said ate downstairs , both ordering 300g Fillet Steaks cooked Rare? OMG They were so dry, no juices at all, virtually tasteless, almost as if they’d been baked not flash cooked. This is why we love having our own little hot rock & why the mix up with our booking was so devastating. With Hot Rock cooking.. we and we alone can control exactly how long to cook each piece of meat. Thankfully the Colcannon mash was superb.

Hi there, and thanks for this detailed review. I’m glad we had a chance to have a chat at the bar on the night, and at the time you guys seemed quite content with the spot you landed at! I’m surprised to read your review which doesn’t reflect the feedback we were given on the night. Our steak, be it cooked by the chef or on a hot rock, is some of the best you’ll find in town, so I’m truly shocked to read all this negative feedback. I did ask the gentlemen when he was paying the bill how everything was and he was quite positive, only suggesting at the very end the steaks were “slightly dry but good”. It’s a shame to have given you the opportunity to voice your concerns face to face by asking how everything was, where any issues could have been addressed there and then, only to be told everything was satisfactory, and then find that you’ve taken your thoughts to a public platform. Our steakhouse is extremely popular, and at the time you guys visited us, we were heavily restricted and we were doing the best we could in exceptionally trying times. I’m sorry to hear you had to “settle” for a meal in our beautiful bar, but it’s worth noting there were hundreds of people that missed out on dining in over the summer because of the restrictions, so I think anyone who got a seat anywhere in town was quite lucky.

W e were looking for a place to have an evening meal & happened to find the The Royal. My hubby had the fish & I had the chicken Parma. The meals were big as we are used to ordering senior meals, the service was excellent, staff brought your meals out & even asked "how was your meal" My husband really enjoyed his fish as he doesn't usually order fish, I couldn't quite finish my parma but it tasted lovely. we would go there again time we visit Echuca.

Reason we went here was for the stone grill which is one of the favourites for my husband. Stone grill can only be had from restaurant up stairs. Started with a garlic bread and bruschetta. The bruschetta was different served with rare beef but it was excellent. We also had a garlic bread which was ok but needed more garlic. Husband had the eye fillet on the stone grill with vegetables and mash, the steak was good and the vegetables were cooked for a change. Pork belly was was the other dish eaten, this was ok. It was served with fried rice that was average and crackling. What was unusual about this dish was the crackling was not on the pork belly but served separately. The skin on the pork belly was sort. Service was efficient and reasonably friendly. Will return next time we are in Echuca.

Our expectations were exceeded. My baked barramundi was excellent with nicely cooked mixed vegetables; my companions really enjoyed their chicken schnitzel. Victorian wines by the glass were welcome. Servings were modestly portioned and therefore appetising. We recommend.

Great pub food and very reasonably priced. I ordered the scotch fillet steak with pepper sauce and it was cooked exactly how I ordered it. Really peppery sauce too. My partner ordered one of their parkas and looked it. Will definitely come back.

Rocked up without a booking to Escape major rain while staying in town. Arrived behind others, covid check in process observed correctly, guests seem to be seated across venue with good distance between them. Given menu and told to come to bar when ordering drinks and meal. Perused me nu and was a little disappointed that many of the items my partner had seen on a menu outside (earlier that day were not actually on the menu we were given. We both opted for rack of lamb and were happy with the choice. It seemed like another couple regretted not ordering this as they left as the husband made comment to his wife about that being the rack of lamb and she commented that they had debated ordering it but didn’t. Presentation was good none of those frozen veg or Veg that were cooked hours before and held in aBain Marie waiting to be dished out. That said i was wondering where our meals had got to by the time they came out. Noting the table next to us had ordered while we were there (just before us) but seemed to be 3/4s of the way through their meal. The only other criticism was that several staff were not wearing masks correctly, yes they had them on but not fully covering both mouth and nose. Given their adherence to checking patrons were double vax’d was surprising. My standard question I always ask in a review, would I eat here again? YES the standard of the food, was great and sure it was a little slow but id sooner wait for good food than to receive bad food in a rush.

My wife & I both ordered Medium rare eye fillet steaks. My wife's came out burnt on the outside & certainly not medium rare inside. When we complained the staff, the staff member said to my wife "Well what do you want me to do about it" Eventually she asked if my wife would like a new meal which she agreed to. No apology at all, Th staff member came back & tried to explain that there are different cuts of meat & that they had pulled apart the steak. Still no apology. Meantime at the table immediately behind us the woman there had asked for a steak medium to well done. When she received the steak it apparently was quite bloody & again the staff tried to make an excuse without an apology. My steak was certainly medium rare at one end but quite tough & probably medium at the other end.. My recommendation is that if you want a really good steak in Echuca, go to the American

Thank you for reviewing us, we were awaiting it. You guys are not to return to our venue. From the minute you arrived, you were bullies towards our amazing staff who were doing everything they could to accommodate you. The first issue was regarding your table position, being booked for the bistro. You preferred to sit outside, which simply wasn’t possible as we were full - there was an expectation for you us to create a table in the outdoor area for you. Four of our staff members contacted us on the night (owners), complaining about your conduct. This has never happened. I had asked them to escort you out, however they chose to continue to try and keep you guys happy. We knew there would be a problem with the meal based on the events that had taken place before you even sat down, so this review is not surprising. We do not accept bullies when all we are doing is offering food and drink. You may think this response is unacceptable customer service, but there is a line & you have crossed it in many ways. Our staff went home struggling with their mental health based on the way you had treated them all night, relentlessly. The table behind you was more than understanding as our managers communicated with them after noticing you had been at their table talking about your poor experience, which is totally out of line. Other customers in the venue should not be approached because you are trying to strengthen your case against the venue. They left very happy & said they will be back very soon.

The steaks was average. My wife had porterhouse (bit rubbery) & I had scotch which just on average for the price, just disappointed it was cooked on a flat grill as expecting cooked on char grill for a steakhouse. Waited more than an hour for a medium rare doneness. Ask the waitress for the long wait & said that over a 100 meals waiting from main kitchen (
