Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Malayan Orchid is one of my go to restaurants in Bendigo! The food is absolutely delicious and they have plenty of gluten free options as I am a coeliac. The staff are friendly and are very professional. The restaurant also looks fantastic now as it...has been recently renovated!More

Had the $45 banquet. Majority of food was nice but if I might suggest the battered eggplant be served fried and with salt. The sauce it was served in did not gel with the flavour of the eggplant. In fact it over rode the eggplant...totally. This would also assist the waiters with identification between the pork and eggplant (same sauce?) and thus avoid the incorrect dish going to the wrong table.More

Disappointing experience. We chose the banquet. The food was rather ordinary and the wait time between courses was very long. It took 3 hours to complete our meal. I do not feel we received value for money.

Welcomed and the staff quickly provided a ramp for my scooter. Nice table toward rear of the restaurant. Interesting menu and Haka provided excellent advice on the food. Recommend Mongolian Beef and the Assam Chilli Prawn.

The guys at Malayan Orchid really know how to set up a feast. From the absolutely mind blowing Char Siu pork to the out of this world goodness of the Mah Lard chicken and so many dishes in between, I would be surprised if there...wasn't something for everyone's palate. We've missed being to Malayan Orchid, and are sure we won't leave it so long before our next tripMore

When you have allergies, finding a restaurant with gluten free, dairy free / vegan options is next to impossible. So when I asked local residents about places to eat, many of them had Malayan Orchid at the top of their list. Reception staff: Very friendly....Definitely working very hard, juggling take always phone orders, walk ins, payments. A bit overworked. Wait staff: Extremely knowledgeable about food. I was blown away. Allergies were not a problem. Drinks staff: Very efficient and friendly. Note: you can tell the staff have been trained well. Decor: Minimalist - really nice place. Food: 10/10 - can’t fault it. We ordered 3 dishes and they’re all perfect. No upset stomach in the night or the morning. It’s great to be able to eat at a restaurant and not have a reaction! Wait time: We did have a minor issue with the three dishes coming out at different times. Probably within 30 mins of each other. So we had a first dish with rice, then a second dish then the greens came last. We suspected the kitchen was being smashed with orders and didn’t worry about it. Upon leaving one of the staff came out and apologised for the wait, he knew exactly what happened - so that was nice that they recognised it. Overall - the question everyone wants to know is “would you go back?”. The answer to that is 1,000% YES. It’s everything you want in a restaurant.More

It was lovely that the high standard of food was still evident since our last visit during Covid. We booked in for dinner before a show at the Ulumbarra Theatre and enjoyed delicious food - roti and satay sauce, Thai coconut chicken and rice. All...of the meals (5 people) were excellent and the service was friendly and efficient. The restaurant was full, which is testament to its popularity. I liked the way they checked if we were going to a show and what time we had to leave by so we didn't have to rush our meal. Very considerate.More

Malayan Orchid never fails to disappoint. Although under recently new owners (who worked for the restaurant for a decade or so) the restaurant has gone from good to exceptional. Food is so fresh. The Green Chicken Curry was the freshest I’ve had. Not swimming in...a heavy sauce but rather light and fragrant. The restaurant also has a very extensive wine list. Love the ambiance, love the white tablecloths! We will be back again!More

Had dinner here and were seated at front of restaurant. Nice and cosy area. Staff are very welcoming, attentive and polite. Nothing is too much for them. Menu has a good selection of foods and drinks. We ordered Won Ton and Curry Puffs to start,...and oh my were they delicious. Mains were Szechuan Beef, Sweet sour pork, nasi goreng and roti. Everything came out in a timely manner giving us a rest between entrees and mains. All cooked perfectly and good size portions. Tasty Tasty tasty.. This is our second visit here and again left happy. We will return and highly recommend this restaurant. The staff help make this a very good restaurant.More

We only spent the weekend in Bendigo, because we couldn't get accommodation in Heathcote for the wine show there, BUT...we're so glad we did now, otherwise we would have never discovered this little gem. What a sensational dining experience. Not only was the food amazing,...but the service was exemplary. Sammi, our server, was the most delightful young lady; knowledgeable about the menu, & very attentive & that level of service always makes the food go down so much easier. She could certainly teach a lot of other servers a thing or two about table service. Now, the food. Where to start? The duck shanks were "lick-your-bowl-clean" delicious! And 2 of us on our table did just that, (licked every skerrick of sauce off our plate), because we just couldn't help ourselves. For mains, we had rendang & pork adobo, along with the pineapple nonya duck leg with some rice & noodles as add-ons. Every single dish was superbly cooked & simply delicious. My favourite was the adobo, where the pork was so perfectly cooked, that the fat was unctuous & decadent, & literally melted on the tongue. Hubby loved the pineapple curry, & the rendang was a little different than we've had anywhere else, but still incredibly flavourful with perfectly stewed, fall-apart pieces of beef. As people who love to dine out, & do it regularly, we found the prices to be very reasonable, especially for the quality of the food that we had, & were also pleasantly surprised at how well priced the wine list was. So much so, that the men enjoyed TWO bottles of Clonakilla with our fabulous meal. Tammy, (the owner?), was the nicest hostess & was thoughtful enough to put us on as private a table as possible, as there seemed to be mainly larger groups booked for the night, so she was worried it might be a little loud for us, being one of the smallest groups there, (just 4 of us). Speaking to her at the end of our evening, we found that she was just as delightful as our adorable Sammi, & loved the pride that she has for her fabulous little restaurant, & rightly so; it was one of the nicest dinners that we've had when we've been away, & will definitely be back, next time we're in the region.More

Good Malaysian offering lots of gluten free options although dishes a bit sweet for my tastebuds, seemed to be a lot of sugar in the dishes and not so much umami. Pineapple Nonya duck curry was the winning dish. Service was very slow on a...a Monday night. We got there at 6.25pm and didn’t get our main course until after 8pm. Restaurant was busy but not full. I think they must do thriving takeaway business as entrance was full of people waiting for takeaway when we arrived.More

The restaurant has an extensive wine list - unlikely to be BYO. Suggest contacting the restaurant directly if you have a special bottle to BYO.
