We came as we wanted to try some wines from the region. We were not disappointed . We tried a variety of wines with the expert help of the wine connoisseur who guided us through some lovely tasting wines. We then went and had lunch...with the food being nicely presented and very delicious .More

On a Tuesday most of Yarra Valley winery restaurants are closed but this one is not! It serves as a hotel as well! Overlooking and surrounded by wineries it is a good spot for a meal. Menu is not too long. Taste was acceptable. The...standout is the chicken with parpedelle pasta. Service was good and price was affordable.More

I received a gift voucher for the Glamping experience at Balgownie estate which included a wine, tasting and champagne breakfast. On check-in, my partner and I were not advised that we could not drive to our allocated tent (which was some distance from reception and...could be an issue if you have a large amount of luggage or have a physical ailment). It was not until later that we were advised that a golf buggy was available. Our Glamping tent did not offer views of the promised vineyard, which was very disappointing. Three other tents also did not have a view of the vineyards – which could’ve been rectified by re-orientating the entry and deck of the tents. My only other issue with our tent, was that a back window flap, which did offer a glimpse of the vineyard, was cable tied shut. The tent itself, did offer all the mod cons of a luxury hotel room except an ensuite, which is not something you get when you are camping. The winetasting was a lovely way to spend part of an afternoon, and Alan was very knowledgeable on the wines and the history of the vineyard. The evening meal, and breakfast the next day, served in the restaurant, were both delicious and well presented. The staff were very attentive, helpful and friendly.More

Would be one of the best and most consistent places to eat in Bendigo. Food is great. Service friendly. Fabulous views and relaxed setting. Nice mix of wines - great sparkling, a tasty rose perfect for a sunny day and there’s a selection of quality...reds..🍷🍽️More

Have been on a few occasions now, once for dinner and that was for a friend's birthday, service was slow but ok. The team could work on there physical appearance, they were undressed for the standards the facility set. I have also been for drinks...a few times and found the environment to be clean but could do with a revamp. I would recommend it if asked however, I wouldn't personally rush back.More

I visited with a friend for lunch. We were after a light lunch, so didn’t order mains. It is a tapas style menu, but servings are of different sizes. The bread offered with the pate was quite hard, not easy to bite into. Broccoli was...a generous serving but had a smoky flavour which was unfamiliar. We enjoyed the cob loaf served as the bread course. I have been for dinner previously, this appears to be what they do best.More

We stayed at the Balgownie Estate during a recent trip to Bendigo. The accommodation was fine but the place is about 20 minutes drive out of town and once you've checked in you tend to stay - that was our experience, anyway. So, we lined...up for dinner at their restaurant, which only offers fixed-price options - $70 for two courses, $80 for three. No a-la-carte, and with beverages and side dishes like salads etc it soon added up to be an expensive meal. What we ordered was fine (I had the roasted-beetroot salad and the Chicken Kiev), although there were not too many alternatives to choose from - 5 mains, 5 entrees. What was most memorable about the meal, though, was the very slow service. Our entrees came in reasonable time and after that it was close to an hour for our mains. And the place was pretty quiet, at very most four other tables and all couples. Overall, not a great dining experience.More

Had a very hit and miss experience here, and for the prices charged they really need to do better. My wife and I dined here on a Thursday night, the restaurant was maybe 2/3rds full and they seemed to have enough staff so Covid couldn’t...really be used as an excuse for any shortcomings… We both had the two course (entree and main) option at $70 a head. For starters we had octopus (tasty although a little chewy) and a beetroot and house made ricotta salad. At least that’s what the description was, but it arrived minus the ricotta! Unfortunately my wife wasn’t 100% sure of the menu description so didn’t say anything, but we confirmed later that it should have been there. Also the house made sourdough bread didn’t arrive until we had to ask for it, and entrees were nearly finished when it did come. Mains were a beautifully cooked piece of barramundi and a tasty, tender and well cooked duck breast. No complaints at all about the fish, although there was certainly no “country generosity” in the serving size. A featured component/accompaniment of the duck dish was poached quince, something I love. Unfortunately they forgot to poach the quince for anywhere near long enough - it was still rock hard and astringent - not edible. The young waiter agreed that the quince looked undercooked and went to report it to the kitchen. Unfortunately instead of some prompt feedback/apologies we had to ask ( quite some time later) what the kitchen’s response had been. The answer: the quince had been prepared by an apprentice and as the head chef was not in that night there was no way of knowing if it was meant to be undercooked or not !! No real apology, or offer of a complimentary glass of wine or dessert, let alone deducting something from the bill…….just nothing! It’s a pity, because there was some lovely flavours and also evidence of good cooking, but attention to detail sadly lacking and basic hospitality skills/training also non existent.More

We attended the restaurant for mother's Day. After trying to confirm during the week the menu. We chanced it would be ok after dining there before. I must say service was great from floor staff. Kitchen little slow for amount of people. But the price...for the quality and quantity of food was absolutely appalling. It really did ruin our day after travelling two hrs to be there to meet up with family.More

I wasn't real sure where to rate this restaurant as it's more than average but I don't think it quite makes the grade of very good as there were a number of annoying things that went against it. First up would be our booking was...made via one of those third party apps (I didn't make the booking so not sure which one), however apparently they no longer use this service so whilst it appeared we had a booking, we actually didn't. Waiter said he could probably put a couple of tables together for us (four of us), but he mentioned they were fully booked. Not so, at all. We were there for quite some time and several tables inside including a long table were never used at all in that time. Food was average to good, depending on what you ordered. Service was average to not so good. Our second glass of wine each was forgotten completely until they had to be reminded and the irritating thing is, we can see the wait staff behind the bar having a natter amongst themselves, which is perfectly fine if the job is being completed at the same time, however that was not the case. If they get their service inconsistencies sorted, the experience would be far more enjoyable. I'd probably recommend eating outside as it did look nice out there under the vines, provided your table is out of direct sun.More

Beautiful setting looking out on the vines. Best location to book is on the vine covered outer terrace or inside the restaurant. Avoid the covered area just outside main dining room which is dark, gloomy and full of flies where we were seated until we...asked ( twice ) to be moved. Food reasonable - we tried entree of honey bugs which consisted of small charred bits of miniature Balmain bugs and pork. Duck was the dish of the day for us very tender, nicely presented. Service ok- our waiter polite, others we observed a bit remote and offhand.More

Fine dining experience choosing between a two or three course meal. My husband and I decided to share a starter and dessert - wise choice as the portions made it easy to share. We selected the duck and sticky pork belly as mains - both...great sumptuous choices. Good food with locally sourced ingredients. A lovely Sunday afternoon lunch. A bit pricey to bring the whole family and would say not a child friendly menu. Friendly and helpful staff. Our only complaint was the music - not a relaxing playlist that detracts from the atmosphere.More

It has been a long time since we enjoyed a meal as much as the dinner we ate while staying overnight at the Estate. We opted for a 3 course fixed price menu; each course was a delight, starting with an unctuous pumpkin ravioli. For...mains I had the most succulent and beautifully cooked pork belly. My wife, who is a lamb connoisseur of a high order, proclaimed her lamb shoulder as the best she had eaten. The fruit sherbet selection for dessert cut through the richness of our mains, and was full of flavour. With wine, a pre-dinner drink and mineral water, we spent $250 on the meal. Sounds like a lot for a regional restaurant, but this is up there with the best food you will find in a major city. The dining space is functional rather than opulent, but a window table looking across to the vineyards is a view that is hard to top. Service was country-friendly and professional.More
