Wonderful food, great service in an historic hotel that has retained its charm. We started with house made sourdough served with black garlic butter. My main was half a chicken, smoked and accompanied by harissa and pickles. The skin was crisp, the flesh succulent and underscored by a pleasant smokiness. My wife had local pork that was cooked for 12 hours, very tender and served with celeriac and apple sauce. Our side was steamed greens with feta and was of high quality. The serves were generous and left no room for dessert. There is an impressive drinks list featuring many local drops - we had a Bress Blanc de Blancs and a lovely Chardonnay from the same maker. Our bill came to $70 per head and great value. We are very lucky to have this as our local.

What a wonderful surprise. On a recent visit to Maiden Gully we discovered that the bistro we usually go to was closed on a Monday night, so we booked into The Gold Mines Hotel. Because it was my birthday, we chose their restaurant menu. (They have an extended menu I think with more pub style meals). The food was sensational. My entree consisted of the best arancini balls I've ever tasted. I chose the brined and wood grilled kangaroo dish for my main and it was sensational. It was accompanied with smoked pumpkin, balsamic plum, pickled radicchio, plum & pepperberry jus and fried kale. Delicious. My partner enjoyed his lamb too but said he would definitely order the kangaroo when we visit again in January for his birthday. We shared a bowl of thin cut kipfler potato chips which were great too. The dessert menu looked lovely, but we were well satisfied and could not fit in any more ! We were very well looked after by the friendly wait staff despite it being a very busy place. Their wine list is very good but I did think their wines by the glass were a little too pricey. We look forward to going back in January and dining in their excellent outdoor area again.

The Gold Mines impressed with interesting vegetarian options under each menu category which is a big plus given the dearth of options at other eateries around town. The food was absolutely delicious, beautifully presented and generous. Our meat eater was equally impressed with their meal. A definite must go if you are in the area.

I'm not sure why this place has such good reviews. We were quite disappointed with our experience. Firstly, when booking online gives choice of Hotel, Courtyard or Outdoors. I booked for Hotel and we were placed in the courtyard without any explanation. Staff seemed confused about taking cash and couldn't use the Eftpos machine. They didn't have simple ingredients such as lettuce and tomato. I was the only one out of our party of 4 that was happy with their meal. One meal was sent back as overcooked and the replacement meal was exactly the same. Steak meals were tiny with a very small serve of potato that had the texture and taste of soap and a huge amount of rocket to make it look like a decent serving. I'd like to suggest that a salad with something other than rocket in it might be more appealing. Very average experience for the price.

2 staff members, one we think being a manager were so rude. Never seen it before in any hotel. Talking down to us because we were blocking her path while lining up for the bar. Rudely told to use the qr code to order drinks. Did so and waited 35 mins for drinks to be told the QR code wasn’t working. Meals missed due to QR codes not working. Meals being literally thrown to us at our table, never seen such rudeness before. Young bloke behind the bar was more than helpful. To the two ladies serving you are totally awful and rude. Would never set foot in the place again. Can’t handle large functions.

The Goldmines Hotel is an impressive building as you arrive at night and see it all aglow as you take in its historical beauty. COVID means more intimate dining in the inside rooms which is a lovely experience. The menu was extensive with so much to choose from but it turned out we all opted for the scallops for entree and they were divine to look at and eat. I ordered the duck which was a large portion but mainly leg rather than breast. The Brussels were roasted but were a little too hard for more lining. The men selected the porterhouse with sauces on the side. They arrived with potato and salad as well which meant no need to order sides which some places would need you to do. My fellow female diner opted for the Italian lamb which was steaming and on a large plate of mash. Too much for her she said. Sadly the steaks came with the sauces on the top and my partner said his steak was cooked perfectly but it was cold but he still loved it. Plenty of wine by the glass to choose from if not drinking a bottle which was lovely to see and not to pricey per glass either. You really do strike ding go,schooling yo eat here.

This is the second time we have been here. The food was good and the staff friendly and attentive. We ate in the courtyard area which is fully enclosed but has plenty of greenery giving it a lovely feel. The new owners are currently fixing the outside garden area which will be lovely in the coming warmer months.

My husband and I revisited the Gold Mines Hotel for dinner last night. We were seated in the warm, tastefully decorated courtyard. We shared a pork salad, the flavours were an absolute delight also the presentation. We also shared the dumpling entree which was simply delicious. My husband had the chicken parmigiana which he couldn't fault. I ordered the fish and chips, the fish being flathead, the batter was so incredibly light and crisp to the last bite. The combination of this beautifully restored hotel, friendly staff and totally mouthwatering food, makes the Gold Mines Hotel not your average pub but a promise of a great dining experience.

A friend of mine recommended this place on our trip to Bendigo and we were not disappointed. From the outside this hotel looks like any other, but we knew it wasn't like any other when we walked into the grand hallway and out to an amazing courtyard and garden. The place has a great vibe - families, couples and friends. We had the pork belly and dumplings and could not fault these dishes. My partner said it was the best pork belly he had ever had. For mains we have fish and porterhouse. I have to say the flavour of the steak were the best I have ever tasted. It is not the cheapest pub I have been too - but you certainly get great value for money. We wondered in the garden out the back and were amazed how big it was. The waitress said it was one of the oldest private gardens in Bendigo. We moved outside to share a dessert and were blown away by what the menu described as "peaches and cream". This is a place you must visit when in Bendigo - well done to the staff and owners you have created such a beautiful place to eat. We will be back

Having eaten at Source in Kyneton a number of times we chose the Gold Mines Hotel as Source staff, chef have moved here permanently. We were not disappointed, the menu stimulated our taste buds and decisions were difficult. Our meal choices were delicious, the service was leisurely, pleasant & relaxed. Loved the ambience (without loud music too). The tempura eggplant was so good as was the pork belly. Then there was a mixup over our meals with an extra steak arriving, it looked delicious I couldn’t let it be taken away. Then our desert we shared was as good as the description described. We look forward to returning in warmer weather & enjoying the courtyard

WOW! I had lunch in this beautiful enchanted garden today. It has such a lovely atmosphere and many different areas to sit. Each with their own unique appeal. We had a lovely waitress who went out of her way to make our dining experience one to remember. Would recommend the Eggplant Salad and Steamed Dumplings which were cooked to perfection. I'll be back!

Outstanding Service - Amazing Food - Fabulous Gardens - The Best In Town These are just a few things that come to mind when I reflect on our recent Wedding, which was held at the Gold Mines Hotel. From the very first phone call we were made to feel like nothing was too much trouble, and that we would have nothing to worry about. The whole process was easy and enjoyable. We thank, Owner / Director, Amy Carlile on providing us with memories that we will treasure for a lifetime. If you are looking for a venue to host a Wedding, Birthday Party, Corporate Event or any special occasion, give Amy and the team a call - you wont be disappointed!

Booked a table in the courtyard and upon arrival was advised that due to “predicted” poor weather our table was no longer available in the courtyard, but in the dining room. A beautiful evening with no inclement weather in sight, the thought of eating in a dining room with as much ambiance as my mother’s aged care facility, we declined the offer and ate at home. Perhaps as customers, we could have been advised prior to arrival that our preferred dining space was no longer available and therefore been given an opportunity to make our own decision. Very disappointing indeed.

Another great location in Bendigo to get the most fantastic food . Dinner with friends here last night was superb . The waiting staff gave just enough attention without being intrusive . The menu is diverse and very well presented. Great place for groups but also intimate dinners with your loved one

We chose the Gold Mines for a special birthday dinner and thoroughly enjoyed every delicious mouthful. We shared a selection of starters and entrees including the best pork belly I’ve had, and a stunning marinated king fish. The cocktail and wine list was extensive and imaginative, I also noticed they had still cider which is hard to find in Australia. We ate in a conservatory like area with glorious ferns, very pleasant as although there were plenty of diners they were all enjoying their meals so much that there was a lovely quiet, contented atmosphere.
