I visited with a couple of clients and I was most impressed with the booking process, the greet-in, table service and quality of food. We had the Prawn Spring Roll, Gin cured Trout, Collins Eye Fillet, Ravioli and Wagyu burger. Each dish was delicious and perfectly cooked. Wine list is very good too. My only disappointment (hence 1 star less) is a charge of $4 for a slice of bread. I understand that food prices and everything else has gone up but $12 for 3 slices of bread is ridiculous when you’re already charging appropriately for other items.

We took an overnight visit via very cheap train travel to central north Victoria. The open-fired cooking range and relaxed atmosphere of The Woodhouse Bar & Grill gave a warm welcome on a cold Bendigo night. Service was very hospitable; table attendant Sophie always attentive with a great sense of humour. We chose the wood-grilled duck dish and a side of baked pumpkin with pomegranate and labna for our mains, accompanied by a tasty Victorian pinot. Scrumptious! The three ‘melt in the mouth’ delights of confit duck leg, a brik pastry and shredded duck cigar and grilled breast were complemented by notes of apple blackberry, slow cooked leek, the crunch of walnuts and mini potato croquettes. The desserts were a great end to the meal, served with suggested wines. The crème brûlée was rich vanilla creamy, just needing a little more sugar caramelisation to make it perfect. The second dessert of mini chocolate favourites didn’t disappoint, the less-sweet tuile and soil just the right foil to the mousse and choc pudding, although the white chocolate ice cream seemed too sweet and unnecessary. This popular restaurant has rightly received many positive reviews. Prices are on the higher side but the exceptional standard of our food made it rightly a memorable experience. Lucky Bendigo locals to have such a great restaurant for return visits.

Hubby and I chose here for dinner as hubby was craving meat. So glad we did. The atmosphere and decor were perfect, soft general music playing in the background, enough to stop the place being quiet. Our waiter Max was a delight and very knowledgeable about the cuts of meat, particularly for some who is vegetarian. He checked in with us through dinner, ensuring all was ok but not intrusive, he seemed to know when we wanted something. The food was fabulous, steak for hubby and duck for me. Both dishes presented nicely and eloquently in front of us. Dinner finished and Corrine took over for dessert. The Apple Tarte Tatin caught our eye, with Corrine’s description of the dessert sold it to us, and boy was it good. The aroma of the dessert reminded me of Christmas. We were so pleased that we chose this restaurant as I will remain in my memory for ages to come. When in Bendigo do yourself a great favour and book here for a special night. I also would like to say all the staff were of high standard and seemed to enjoy working there.

For the amount you pay for one of these steaks you would think that the customer could have it served however they wanted, but no. We wanted to try the steaks without all the fluff they are served with and just have chips. This request was denied and we were told that a bowl of chips can be ordered on the side - naturally for an additional cost. Definitely not recommended 👎

We had the pleasure of dining here. This isn’t our first time but it was our first time since the change of management. We really appreciated getting a table in the bar area as a walk in guest. On first impressions it looks amazing and a Friendly atmosphere. We decided to give the menu a red hot crack and ordered quite a few snacks. We brought a bottle of wine. We had the zucchini blossoms, prawn spring rolls, scollops, and the wagyu brisket skewers, and the sour dough bread. I felt the bread was far too doughy, very heavy for a sour dough. ( not a big deal) the other remaning snacks were of an average standard. The highlight being the brisket skewer. For main course we ordered the sher Wagyu eye fillet ($110) and two sides, the pumpkin and the heirloom carrots. The main came with a potato Rosti. As we shared the steak they did give us a rosti each which was generous. However we did not enjoy any sides that we had. They were not of a high standard for a restaurant of this calibre. BUT the steak exceeded all expectations. It was absolutely amazing. Thank you. Over all our experience wasn’t terrible but it didn’t have the WOW factor for the price tag. $270 for the above. We skipped desert as we felt the sides that came with the steak were sweet enough. While doing a full review staff were efficient but missing the smile factor. It doesn’t cost a thing to smile!!! There is room for improvement in most areas of this restaurant.

We managed a car park out the front, on a very rainy evening, so lucky! Had a generous sized table for two, in a quiet part of the restaurant. Service was on point, we thoroughly enjoyed Prawn Spring rolls, Woodhouse focaccia, Blue eye, Wagyu burger and Caesar salad. It was all delicious, beautifully presented , along with a glass of red 🍷 Would definitely recommend!

I’m Bendigo born and bred. We visited a week ago where we went with the set menu option which on their website the menu says $125 per person but the menu handed over in person had $135. By the time we had a couple of drinks each, the bill for two came in at $350.00. Did I walk out feeling like I had the most amazing meal ever and was happy to part with that much money, that would be a no. The set menu, each person does not get an entree size of each item listed. It details the steak and weight and we were asked individually how we both wanted our steak cooked however when it came out it was the one steak that had to be shared between the two of us. Not sure what they would have done if one of us liked well done and the other person rare. Overall it was disappointing, compared to my last dining experience there when I parted with $250 and walked out feeling like that meal was totally worth that amount of money. Like some other review said, you can get an equally nice piece steak at some of the wonderful pubs Bendigo has.

We have dined at The Woodhouse several times, and it seems to be better every time. We shared beef tartare for entree, fillet steaks for mains (perfectly cooked) and for dessert the platter of half a dozen “small things”. Service is impeccable, nicely paced, Food is just the best. We had Negroni cocktails to start, best we have ever had outside of Venice!

I booked a table of 6 on open table I did not go into the web site as I have dined here before, I booked on the 15 of December for a dinner on the 28th Feb, I got a call from the manager on th 27th of Feb re a bar booking, my booking confirmation showed a table of 6 and I was told the bar does not have a table section where you can eat a main meal I said the booking system was not clear as I have never known a restaurant to have 2 seperate sections where only one section you can eat a meal. My booking was cancelled and the dinner I had booked with industry exectutives was a mess, if the wood house is listening can they review their own booking system and why did they wait until the day before my booking to tell me I booked a seat at a bar. Very Very poor form.

Your reservation was cancelled purely for the fact of how disrespectfully and rude you spoke to the staff in relation to you booking your table in the wrong area. It was a senior staff member who had called you initially to confirm number of your booking which has been our policy for many years. It got the point that the manager had to get involved in the conversation due to your rudeness which is not tolerated by management or the owners. It was explained to you that you are the one who had booked the table online whether that being OpenTable or through our website (which it takes you to the same booking system). When booking online you must click on the “I agree to the terms and conditions” in which it specially states “you are booking the Woodhouse Bar and NOT the restaurant” It was explained to you in which you could eat a meal in the bar however the fact that it is a bar it would be quite uncomfortable for a booking of your size due to the fact that it is a BAR and has bar high tables or couches. If you have a look at OpenTable you will not only see different names for the different spaces but once clicking on each you will then see not only completely different introduction about the space but also different photos and menus We pride ourselves as going above and beyond for our customers to give the best Woodhouse experience possible. And love having many repeating customers. We are in the business of people .

This is the 2nd review i have given this restaurant. First was 5 star but under this is only 2 stars at the most. The waitress, is the only reason I have given this. Seriously this place has honestly gone down hill so far, to where we will not be returning and would enjoy a pub meal instead. My husband, son and I had snack consisting of 2 mouthfuls at the most. Then we all had an entree again small. The mains, my husband had a steak with Green Beans which were raw and tough, my son and I Shared Turf & Surf. The Surf & Turf was terrible. Not only was the Surf dry but consisted of 2 prawns and half a small lobster tail. The steak was a Rib Eye. Full of fat and was charred so badly that the bitter char was all that could be tasted. We also had 2 desserts. My Dessert was bitter. And to top it off. The price was astronomical $580 Terrible

Some friends recommended we go to Woodhouse, so on a recent rip to Bendigo we did. After a 7 hour drive we quickly changed and walked to the restaurant, warmly greeted and shown our table. Nice menu and wine list. Service, for a packed restaurant was excellent and attention from Sommelier Steve (who by coincidence we had met before) was appreciated. My steak was probably the best I have ever had and my wife's ravioli, she said, was full of flavour but a little undercooked around the edges. Wished we lived closer to go again.

We opted a for a mix of nightly specials and standard steak fare and were delighted with our choices. The stracciatella salad was delicious and went well with a glass of Shaw and Smith Sauvignon Blanc. My Wagu Rostbiff was expertly prepared and tasted superb and went very well with a glass of the local Pondalowie Shiraz. The only downer on the evening was the terrible coffees - no heat and an awful taste. We should have complained, but didn't, as I am sure our serving person would have rectified the problem if we had.

The Woodhouse was popular and busy and the staff professional and attentive and this was a well-run place that specilized in top class beef (and some other protien). The meat was well cooked and presented but expensive for what it was. Wine prices by the glass were reasonable and the selection was very good. Overall, not as good as hoped based on reviews and a little above the price expected for what was served but clearly one of the best and more popular restaurants in Bendigo.

I’ve been wanting to get back to The Woodhouse for some time. I had trouble getting a booking for a weekend night at a reasonable time - 6.30-8 pm. I was told they opened Saturday for lunch, so while in the neighbourhood, I stopped by to see if they could take two of us. We couldn’t get in until 2.30 pm, but it was well worth the wait! We had the rib eye for two, served with potatoes. We also ordered a butter lettuce salad. The rib eye, not cheap, was awesome. Yes, we ate every bite. It was perfectly cooked, tasty and served with various sauces and mustards. It needed none of them. This was the best meal I’ve had in a very long time. We will be back. Staff is professional, knowledgeable and helpful. Hard to find these days. We were really impressed with all of it. Thank you, Woodhouse for a great dining experience. (FYI: My husband is a chef, so a tough customer.)

I also thought the experience menu at $125 was excessively priced. I was disappointed in the quality of the steak [ thin with bone grizzle and fat } but as previously said not sure how they cater for different cooking of steak for different people as ours also was indifferent. My other concern was that you receive a cooked potato as a main with your steak but you receive a cold plain salad instead of hot vegetables.Surely you should get vegetables at that price. Entree and desserts were excellent I must say but by you share a bottle of wine and an extra glass no change out of $380 for two without a tip. Need to improve
