Some friends recommended we go to Woodhouse, so on a recent rip to Bendigo we did. After a 7 hour drive we quickly changed and walked to the restaurant, warmly greeted and shown our table. Nice menu and wine list. Service, for a packed restaurant...was excellent and attention from Sommelier Steve (who by coincidence we had met before) was appreciated. My steak was probably the best I have ever had and my wife's ravioli, she said, was full of flavour but a little undercooked around the edges. Wished we lived closer to go again.More

I booked a table of 6 on open table I did not go into the web site as I have dined here before, I booked on the 15 of December for a dinner on the 28th Feb, I got a call from the manager on...th 27th of Feb re a bar booking, my booking confirmation showed a table of 6 and I was told the bar does not have a table section where you can eat a main meal I said the booking system was not clear as I have never known a restaurant to have 2 seperate sections where only one section you can eat a meal. My booking was cancelled and the dinner I had booked with industry exectutives was a mess, if the wood house is listening can they review their own booking system and why did they wait until the day before my booking to tell me I booked a seat at a bar. Very Very poor form.More

We have dined at The Woodhouse several times, and it seems to be better every time. We shared beef tartare for entree, fillet steaks for mains (perfectly cooked) and for dessert the platter of half a dozen “small things”. Service is impeccable, nicely paced, Food...is just the best. We had Negroni cocktails to start, best we have ever had outside of Venice!More

We came here because my sister-in-law told me she'd had the best steak she'd ever eaten here. (She was visiting from London, we were visiting from Paris.) This is a highly specialized restaurant, and you have to like its aged-beef specialties to appreciate it. I'm...used to be asking how one would like their steak done, not here. Aged beef needs to be cooked to the chef's recommendation. Our meal was very good, but my tastes are more along the line of a rare 'bavette'. We had a lot of questions about the beef, and our waitress asked the chef to come out to answer our questions. Very kindly, he did - and spent almost 15 mins doing so! One small criticism: the service was quite slow (e.g., serving the wine took a couple of reminders). But if you like aged beef: Unmissable!More

Lovely spring evening in Bendigo and I was lucky enough to be back at The Woodhouse Restaurant. Hadn't been here for 18months due to covid, but still the same warm friendly atmosphere with terrific staff. Had the grass fed 300gm Porterhouse medium rare with red...wine jus, cauliflower side and hot English mustard. To drink, S. C. Pannell Tempranillo. What a wonderfull dinner. Steak perfectly cooked, cauliflower as I remember it and a gem of a wine from Steve Pannell What more can I say but extremely well done Woodhouse! Oh, don't forget to book.More

This is the 2nd review i have given this restaurant. First was 5 star but under this is only 2 stars at the most. The waitress, is the only reason I have given this. Seriously this place has honestly gone down hill so far, to...where we will not be returning and would enjoy a pub meal instead. My husband, son and I had snack consisting of 2 mouthfuls at the most. Then we all had an entree again small. The mains, my husband had a steak with Green Beans which were raw and tough, my son and I Shared Turf & Surf. The Surf & Turf was terrible. Not only was the Surf dry but consisted of 2 prawns and half a small lobster tail. The steak was a Rib Eye. Full of fat and was charred so badly that the bitter char was all that could be tasted. We also had 2 desserts. My Dessert was bitter. And to top it off. The price was astronomical $580 TerribleMore

Hubby and I chose here for dinner as hubby was craving meat. So glad we did. The atmosphere and decor were perfect, soft general music playing in the background, enough to stop the place being quiet. Our waiter Max was a delight and very knowledgeable...about the cuts of meat, particularly for some who is vegetarian. He checked in with us through dinner, ensuring all was ok but not intrusive, he seemed to know when we wanted something. The food was fabulous, steak for hubby and duck for me. Both dishes presented nicely and eloquently in front of us. Dinner finished and Corrine took over for dessert. The Apple Tarte Tatin caught our eye, with Corrine’s description of the dessert sold it to us, and boy was it good. The aroma of the dessert reminded me of Christmas. We were so pleased that we chose this restaurant as I will remain in my memory for ages to come. When in Bendigo do yourself a great favour and book here for a special night. I also would like to say all the staff were of high standard and seemed to enjoy working there.More

There is the express lunch option where you get 2 courses for $58, which represents great value and was very filling. I had the wagyu steak and it was probably the best steak I’ve ever had. My wife had the barramundi which was super good....The smell of the wood fire and ambience provided for a great meal. The wine list is good. I had a Coonawarra red as part of the lunch deal. This place is busy for dinner so book ahead to avoid disappointment.More

If you want a fabulous dining experience, this is it. We were lucky to be seated near the fire (table of 6) and the food was excellent. The menu and wines were not cheap, but the food was very very good and the service impeccable....We would definitely recommend The Woodhouse to anyone who wants something a little bit special.More

There is an Asian unfriendly staff there! As a tourist from another state, I visited the vibrant town of Bendigo on my birthday, seeking to enjoy its artistic and cultural atmosphere. . I had planned to celebrate by trying out a restaurant that I had...heard had won awards for their steaks and supposedly offered decent service. Unfortunately, I experienced a form of racial discrimination that left me disheartened. The white girl with light brown curls tied up in a ponytail, responsible for refilling water, completely ignored our table. We noticed her diligently refill water for every table except ours. It seemed like she deliberately skipped our table and went to the neighbouring tables. Despite my friend making eye contact with her, she continued to disregard us. It was disheartening to observe her refilling water for other customers, who happened to be white, while neglecting our table even though my glass was nearly empty. Each time I saw her approaching, I looked at her, but that person turned her head and stood by the water dispenser. Having paid for a high-end restaurant, I had expected quality service, but instead, it ruined my mood and spoiled my birthday celebration. This was the first time I encountered such a combination of poor service and discrimination by this girl in all my years of living in Australia and visiting various cities. It is indeed disappointing and a disgrace to this city. Although the front desk manager promptly apologized, I felt the lack of sincerity as the girl never came to apologize herself. I I believe that hospitality should never tolerate such service, and I sincerely hope that I never have to encounter such staff in the future.More

I had visited The Woodhouse a few times and generally found it good but not excellent but having friends visit we decided to give it another go and I’m so pleased we did. Both the food and service were excellent and reasonably priced. Everyone had...steak and sides. I like my steak well done and it was perfect melt in your mouth. Not overdone. The sides were generous for sharing. Our friends were delighted and we will return (just need to book in advance which is ok if you are that organised).More

Yes they do even though they specialise in steak. We shared the Prawn entre and it was super delicious. They have a fish of the day as main but we have not tried that.
