Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This restaurant was a treat. First trip to Bendigo in 20 years and first night out. Beautiful building, lovely calm atmosphere and exceptional food. We had the 3 courses for $90. The quail entree and the Snickers 3.0 for dessert were particular highlights, but all...other courses were also of the highest quality. Warm and engaging front of house, as well young and professional serving staff (some very new to it, but doing a great job) made for a hugely enjoyable night out. Highly recommended.More

This is no MASONS. Lovely restaurant and location with wonderful staff. We had a good entree - Proscuitto & Fig, and the Quail, which were very good. But mains were very disappointing. The Beef Brisket and Lamb Backstrap were very overcooked and quite dry. Also...ordered the Potatoes, also very overcooked, not crispy. Dessert was disappointing, ordered the Creme Brulee which was thin and just not Rich and decadent as it should be. Our lovely waiter told us it was 'dairy free'!! (If I had of known would not have ordered) My husband ordered the Pear Mille Feuille and was just not right, almost no pastry, hard pear, not very pleasant. The lovely staff were apologetic and gave us a discount on the bill.More

Excellent service, food and building. Presentation & quality of the meals was exceptional. We selected to go with the $75 pp 3 course option which was well and truly enough. Started with sour dough bread then onto the kingfish & pork belly for entree, black...opal wagyu for main with duck fat potatoes as a side then finished with snickers 2.0 & beesting for dessert. The highlights were the pork belly and the wagyu, yum!! We will definitely returnMore

Right in the CBD in what was previously an old bank building. The staff were excellent, they were aware of my wife's allergy and went out of their way to accommodate so we had no complaints. Started with sourdough which was made locally, then had...our mains - grilled black opal wagyu beef for my wife, and i had the Duck Breast with mushrooms and brussel sprouts. For desserts, my wife had the 'beesting' /almond/honeycomb/custard/praline, and i had Pear mille fuille/safron/honey ice-cream/ caramel & white chocolate. They had a reasonable selection of beer and wines. Enjoyed the food & service.More

Thoroughly enjoyed our dinner at Alium. The food was lovely and the staff were attentive without being overbearing. The restaurant itself is in a lovely refurbished old building and is very comfortable. Highly recommended.

A really great experience. The service was very friendly but professional. The tasting menu was a combination of small dishes that were presented excellently and had a variety of different tastes and flavours - delicious tasty food.

The only way to describe this place is exquisite. Everything. From the view out the window onto a night lit Bendigo, to the impeccable service and detailed explanation of each dish and wine, to the attention to detail and excellent meal portions. The espresso martini...has been receiving lots of comments so I thought I’d try one and it was the best I’ve ever had, in fact, so en pointe that my non drinking fellow diner also had to have one. The wagyu beef was perfectly cooked and I absolutely loved the delicacy of the vegetables (and the side of pumpkin and feta literally melted in the mouth). A rich and substantial dessert, lightly seared juicy entree of scallops, lovely staff. No wonder it is receiving the ratings it has. So so worth it! Enjoy! Highly recommend!More

This restaurant certainly gives you a high-end dining experience. Set in one of Bendigo’s old banks, the decor is beautifully done in shades of white, with the high ceilings with plaster mouldings giving a really European feel. The menu is definitely contemporary, with some excellent...choices. You have three options - a two course meal for $80 per head, $90 for three courses, and a six course sampling menu for $120(?) I can’t remember exactly. Dinner began with an excellent amuse-bouche of a vegetable tea infused with hibiscus with sourdough bread. This certainly woke the tastebuds up. All the food came promptly, and was very well presented. All six of the dished we tried were excellent - the master stock braised pork belly entree was world class. The staff were all attentive and approachable - particularly the wonderful French manager, with whom we had a good laugh about a number of things. If you want a special dinner in Bendigo, this is definitely the place to come.More

We have been wanting to try Alium Dining and finally got there. The venue has changed hands several times in the last 20 years, each time with a great restaurant. We went for lunch today and enjoyed a beautiful three course menu. For the first...course, we had a kangaroo dish with bush tomato jam and pickled radishes, and cauliflower croquets made with tapioca and quinoa. For the mains, we had a lamb rump with broccoli, carrot, and sweet potato purée, and a plump duck breast with puréed vegetables. All of these dishes were complex, delicious and beautifully presented. For dessert, a wagon wheel and a gaytime something or other. Both were served with flavoured sorbets and were very nice. We will be back!More

Best fine dining in town IMHO. The menu is different to the 'also ran' restaurants in town and a chance to try some extra ordinary dishes. Not rushed and pushed out the door we had time to relax with friends have great wine from a...wonderful wine list that offers different quality wines not seen in standard restaurants. Davids recommendations are top class.! [Yes I did get to meet the owner] Great for a special occasion such as we celebrated but will come back for lunch. This is not a pub or standard restaurant, its Melbourne style fine dining and just as good if not better and the 'window' is outstanding.More

Great location, excellent decor, friendly and helpful staff. The tasting plate was an eclectic mix, my confit duck surprisingly and enjoyably gamey, and her Lamb rump was cooked to perfection. Go there, you won't be disappointed

It's a lovely old building in the centre of Bendigo and the food was excellent. The service was friendly but a bit hit and miss. We ordered a beer when we arrived (it was 40 degreees outside) and then wine with dinner but the wine...came first and we had to remind them we had ordered a beer. But given the quality of the food it's not cheap but it's well worth it.More
