On several visits to Bendigo we have walked past Borchelli’s and it’s always been packed. That plus the glowing reviewing saw me book a month in advance ahead of our last trip. Sadly, the meal and service did not match expectations. We ordered the olive...entrée which was nice but the bread was very average (Cole’s bread stick toasted maybe?). We then had the plate of 3 dishes, choosing seafood risotto, fettuccine Valentino and penne calabrese. The pastas and risotto were good but nothing special. There did not seem to be much love in the preparation or presentation. We also ordered a bottle of Barbera. We had to ask to taste the wine before it was poured, which should be standard on a bottle priced at over $60. Thankfully, it was quite good. The staff did not seem well trained and were not particularly attentive, friendly or helpful. All that said, there was a constant flow of customers, so it definitely works for a lot of people.More

This is a great little restaurant with a good menu. My wife and I dined here and thoroughly enjoyed the Saltimbocca and the Rotolo Di Pollo. There are 2 locations and we went to the one in View Street. Definitely suggest that you book because...it is very popular. Highly recommendedMore

We love good Italian food and this place is as good as it gets. Two of us had the Spaghetti Marina which was outstanding, perfect amount of seafood. Great range of choices.

Had been wanting to go here for a long time and finally we went. It was really good. Good staff/service. Drinks came along very quickly. Good selections of food, we all chose a different pasta and everyone was very happy with their selection. The large...(main size) was just the right size and if you cant eat it all, they allow you to take home. The pastas were all tasty, well cooked as with the delightful garlic bread. Our only downside to View street, we sat inside was how small it was on two small round tables. We were searching for places to put the glasses, water, plates etc. Apart from that everything else was terrific. Next time we will try their Bath Lane restaurant, only due to the very small tables. We cant wait to return and highly recommend Borchelli.More

A must visit restaurant. The ambiance to start with is relaxing and inviting, then the service is wonderful and then backed up with mouth watering food. Its a treat to eat here.

Never before have I tasted Italian food that was so tasty. Beautifully presented food on the plate. The staff were amazing and so very helpful. Considering we were seated upstairs, the staff were extremely kind and generous with their time. If I had to find...a negative, it's the stairwell to the top floor. It doesn't feel very safe and I definitely wouldn't recommend it for an aged person. Unfortunately, larger groups are seated upstairs as there's no room downstairs.More

We were in Bendigo for a couple nights and as the reviews were good, we booked on a Saturday night. The food was excellent. The Garlic Bread was more than enough for two to share and the mains were filling. I had the Veal Saltimbocca,...and my wife had the Penne Contessa. Would recommend both dishes. The service was very good. The only negative was we were booked in upstairs, and it was a bit of a hike to get there and several stairs to negotiate > My wife has knee trouble, so it was a slow journey. It was a minor inconvenience to a great night.More

Solid four star Italian pasta place. It’s limited here and anything but fancy and what they do they do well. We had a really enjoyable meal of three pastas - cheese gnocchi, spaghetti marinara and salmon fettuccini. None of it was particularly high standard. It...with a pear and roquette salad it went down a treat. The place was good. The service was fine. It’s really good here for a casual night outMore

The staff and restaurant are pleasant and in a nice location. However, I wouldn’t rate the food any better than ordinary. We opted for the selection of 3 dishes which is a great idea. We chose the Gnocchi Quattro Formagi, Seafood pasta and Chicken Rissotto....When the tray came to the table it didn’t look very appetizing, some garnishes would have helped. The gnocchi was pretty tasteless and gluggy, and the risotto was not great, wet and fairly tasteless. The seafood pasta was the best of the lot. We were really looking forward to our meal and were very disappointed.More

Housed in an old building on View Street in Bendigo’s centre, the layout is slightly quirky, with various different rooms on several different levels. The ambience is definitely European, with red and white checked tablecloths and photos of various parts of Italy everywhere. There are...also pavement tables, with gas heaters in winter for the hardy. Unusually (in my experience) they have both licensed and unlicensed areas of the restaurant, so be careful to specify when you book a table. The menu is pretty standard Italian fare - pizza, pasta, etc. The staff are all super-friendly and efficient, and even when busy (it was fully booked the night we went) the food doesn’t take that long to arrive. The dishes that we chose were both pretty good - very tasty and nicely presented.More

This little gem is so convenient if you are going to a show at The Capital Theatre. The outdoor marquee that was set up during Covid has been a bonus for increasing the number of tables without compromising the ambience of the place. Gas heaters...and blankets are provided to keep you warm on these chilly nights. I had one of the best seafood marinara dishes I've ever had (full of seafood) and the homemade tiramisu was so light and creamy. The staff were friendly and very accommodating, as I didn't have a booking. They also noted what time I needed to be gone by so I was on time for a show. Very impressed as always and very reasonably priced.More

It was a busy Saturday night so we were unable to book a table until 8pm but that was ok. We arrived on time and were shown immediately to our table. It wasn’t the best table in the house as it was situated near the...front door and we felt the cold draughts coming in. The tablecloth and the cutlery was clean, and the wait staff were friendly and attentive. We ordered drinks, entrees and mains and before long we were enjoying a glass of delicious Shiraz each. Within 10 minutes our entrees had arrived - Rocket Pear & Parmesan Salad for me, Deep Fried Potatoes for him and crusty Bread & Olive Oil to share. The bread was fresh and crusty as promised and he said the potatoes were the best! There was a brief interval between entrees and mains, Penne Contessa and Penne Calabrese. There was absolutely nothing wrong with my Calabrese (it was very good) but I couldn’t help but wish I’d ordered the Contessa instead. I guess I’ll have to go back and try it next time!More

Our family went to Borchelli for a 12th birthday. 3 adults, 7 children. We had a 6pm booking and had ordered by 6.10. Two entrees were ordered which came out after some time. The main meals were not delivered to the table until after 7.20...(7 children under 12 had to wait for well over an hour for the dinner) but in the meantime to waitress cleared the two entree dishes and proceeded to clear all the cutlery. She had to be told 4 times that the cutlery was needed as no one had received their main meals. We were charged $10 for them to serve the cake only to have the waitress drop the remainder of the cake on the ground at the table. No refund was offered on the cake fee and no discount was offered for the extremely poor service. I phoned today and was advised they will refund the $10 cake fee! Borchelli have lovely food but unfortunately their service is poor. I visit on a regular basis hoping that it will improve but we usually end up somewhere else for dessert as after the main meal you are forgotten (no matter how close you are to the staff you are ignored) empty table no drinks and no staff members even give you a second glance. I understand staffing is hard at the moment (I also have a business) but this has been happening preCovid so unfortunately it seems to be Borchelli culture. I’ll give it a rest for some months and hold out hope that it will improve.More

Absolutely appalling service. We were asked over and over in the first 20 minutes were we ready to order. We told three waiting staff that we weren’t. We asked would it be okay to have a couple of drinks first the response by all three...was yes. One if the family said we will let you know when we are ready. We ordered our first round of drinks and a serve of garlic bread. We order our second round of drinks and by this time it was 7.05pm. We hadn’t quite decided what we all wanted to eat but found ourselves rushed and one of the family ordered something that they really didn’t want. But, did so because the elder lady put so much pressure on us all by saying that we had said something brutal to one of the OTHER staff and raved on about we had gone over our half hour and they had staff shortages that we now had gone into the next half hour. WTF 😳😳😳😳😳😳 One meal was cold and inedible. A big shout out to Emma and Jonah (I apologise if I have spelt the names incorrectly) you were both amazing waiting staff.More

The old woman who owns this business is the most confrontational, aggresive, rudest person I have EVER encountered in hospitality . I was dining with a table of 10. It was cold and raining and as as they refuse to seat people indoors for goodness...knows what reason, we were all outside, watching the poor staff trying to stop the marquee gutters from overflowing onto diners. We had moved inside to pay, when the owner said we had wait outside (remember it's cold and raining). I turned and mumbled to myself "oh great I'll just go outside and wait in the rain." The owner heard me and came running after me, making quite a scene, carrying on about why was I being like that, I had a nice veranda to stand under. She had a real bee in her bonnet and really overreacted. I asked her why she was making us wait outside in the cold when we are no longer under covid restrictions or require social distancing. I couldn't believe she was carrying on so much about a comment I'd made to no one but myself. She just wouldn't let it go. One of my fellow diners was hanging around talking inside after paying. I said to her she had better come outside before she also got told off. This was done quietly and was a private conversation between me and her. The old woman came running over and started at me again. She came right up into my personal space, blocked me with her body and started carrying on about why was I being so rude. She was being so nice to me and why was I doing this? For a second, I though she was going to push me, that's how aggressive and confrontational her manner was. I was taken aback. I could not believe her overreaction and intimidating manner. One of my fellow diners later commented that it was ironic she was carrying on and making a scene about how I was making her feel awful, when she was berating me at volume in front of other patrons! I left quite shaken and shocked. One of the other diners was literally standing there with her mouth gaping, unable to believe what she was hearing. The owner is a nasty old bully. I hate to think how she treats her staff if this is what she thinks is appropriate behaviour towards a paying customer. Never again will I set foot in this awful restaurant. The entire table of 10 have agreed to never go there again based on her behaviour. So she has cost herself 10 customers and all the other people that each of us will tell about this experience. Two additional facets of poor service about this restaurant. They will only seat you outdoors, regardless of the weather. Keep this in mind in Winter, as you aren't allowed to be inside as I discovered! They also have time restrictions on dining, only booking you at 5:30 or 7:30. If you are at the earlier booking, they will quite pointedly tell you when your time is up. Another example very rude service.More
