Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Like other reviews from as early as March 2022, we unfortunately had not read reviews prior to attending. The online menu looks amazing, and we were very excited to try some of the dishes. Like the others, we were locked into the drinks menu and...ordering drinks, with the drinks being bought out prior to the dinner menus being presented. I tend to think this is the gimmick, locking people into feeling like they should stay "because we've already ordered drinks". The menu is pitiful, 3 selections of entree, 4 mains, 2 desserts. 2 of the 5 sides options were unavailable, inexplicably, including the broccolini. One option for a share platter at $70pp which would have, at best, $15 worth of food on it. Needles to say, we paid for drinks and left. Deceitful and misleading, avoid this venue at all cost.More

$38 slow cooked shoulder lamb with baby carrots and risoni. No carrots see pic... not edible... glug. Friend had the barbecue chicken ..appearance unappetising....colour bland, drab..only a few pieces of chicken with a tiny piece of sweet potato on plate with a bit if saute...onions also $ 38. Only approx a third of menu on line is available in house menu..reason I was told us that they were hacked 3x? Very limited main meals available. Found it weird that a greek rest doesn't hav moussake on their menu. Positives.. service surberb 10 out of 10. Plus enjoyed the entrees and red wine.More

My partner and I went here for dinner on a Saturday night. They weren’t overly busy and the wait staff were amazing. We both had the $70 three course menu which was value for money and couldn’t fault it, fresh & tasty and plenty of...it. Definitely would go back. Thank you for an awesome dining experience 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻More

Ate here a few years ago and loved it. Hoping it would be a s good as last time we took a local who had not been before. FOS did not disappoint, we had limited time got the meals in a timely fashion, good service,...friendly staff. The food was just as good as the last visit. My only gripe is I did email and leave a message to get a booking out of hours I do not think this is monitored. A great before show option which is the reason were visiting Bendigo.More

Went for a quick main meal before our movie, perfect location, attentive staff and food was filling and flavoursome. Pita bread to kill for! And next time we’re getting the grazing after the waitress recommended but unfortunately we were stuck on time. They looked busy...but she cared for our experience. Large wine cabnets had plenty to offer and we drank the Bress Pino noir which wasn’t on the menu but pleasantly good for a house wine.More

First of all, I need to say that I very rarely write bad reviews as every place has a bad night etc, but this was beyond normal. My party of 6 did not even stay to order food. We were here on the 17th June....We were originally drawn to the wide range of seafood dishes (I don't eat meat) on their website menu. On arriving we ordered a bottle of wine, $58, and a couple of other drinks, while waiting for the food menu. When this finally arrived, with the bottle almost finished, we were shocked to see it was a very limited menu nothing like that on the website. It was also very meat based. On asking our server, she said this was a new menu only starting today. This was a blatant lie as we have now seen other reviews that the original menu has not been served from at least March! At the time we accepted her word. There was a main meal option of three skewers - chicken, lamb and seafood (she didn't know the seafood), and salad etc. I asked if it was possible to have three seafood skewers, obviously paying for any price difference. She would check with the chef. She returned saying the only option was that he could do the whitebait on the entree list. We all said the a plate of whitebait is not a suitable main meal when there were seafood skewers available. She then said that I could have them with the taramasalata (fish roe dip) as that was seafood! There was no explanation as to why the skewers could not be done. They were on the menu. We did not ask for any thing special to be cooked. We were told that was the only seafood dish the chef would do and we could leave if we wanted. Another, probably more senior, server brought us our bill for the drinks, and very insincerely said that she was disappointed that we were not happy but made no apology, nor even try to explain or appease us. We left. We ended up at CLOGS Italian for excellent Scallops and other meals. Last night, the National Hotel had a really good Seafood Platter and they didn't even flinch when I asked for Natural oysters instead of the Kilpatrick. FOS, you missed on 6 hungry people who would have gone through another two bottles of the Bress Pinot (clogs had it at $48)! Hope it was worth you being so rude and uncompromising.More

I reviewed Fos a few years ago and gave it five stars, with excellent food and service. I'm sorry to say that is no longer the case. To begin, the menu on their website is NOT ANYTHING like what is in the restaurant. I understand...many places have had to reduce their menu due to covid shortages, but how hard is it to have the correct menu on your website? Although there were only three of us in the restaurant, it took around 20 minutes for my meal to arrive. I ordered chicken breast with lemon sauce and an ancient grain salad and a side serve of roast chat potatoes, as there were no vegetables with the chicken. The chicken was incredibly bland and tasteless. The "lemon sauce" was in fact half a lemon, and ironically this gave the only flavour to the chicken. It was served on a small bed of couscous salad. $28 for a plain chicken breast! The "ancient grain salad" was just the same couscous with a tiny sprinkling of fetta on top! The chat potatoes were forgotten, and when they finally arrived I was three quarters of the way through my meal. They were absolutely swimming in oil. Each piece was literally dripping oil as I picked it up and there was awful layer of oil on the bottom of the bowl. The Greek doughnuts for dessert were undercooked. Then the waitress attempted to overcharge me by $14 by saying the ancient grains salad was an extra. So double check your bill! I understand it is difficult for hospitality businesses with staffing/supply issues post-covid, but if they continue with the ordinary food that I was served, they won't be around much longer. One of the worst dining experiences I've had in Bendigo. I will not be returning.More

Had visitors from Mornington for weekend, booked for Saturday night at FOS. The four of us received prompt and friendly service. Our guests left full with delicious Greek food. Calamari melted in mouth, Peroni was cold and finished with naughty donuts. Highly recommend.

Friday dinner. Was surprised by the quality and freshness of the food and dips. After some local Thai calamari take away earlier in the week, to find fresh, properly cooked and freshly prepared I was one happy camper. All the food seems prepared on the...spot and not days before. Can’t recommend FOS Dining highly enough. Did not explore the wine list apart from some very reasonably priced wines by the glass. Doesn’t get much better than this for good ambience, food and fullness.More

We we visiting Bendigo from Laanecoorie. After walking through the Hardens, we stumbled on FOS -Kitchen and Bar for lunch. We had our dogs with us and so were confined to eating in their outdoor setting. No sooner had I sat down, when a friendly...young waiter came out immediately to see if he could be of assistance. I mentioned I was there with two other adults, and that was fine. Within minutes, we had water and menus... within the next 5 minutes we had ordered drinks and a lunch to share. We had ordered a mushroom, a calamari, and a baby beetroot dish to share. The mushrooms were divine, the calamari dish was superb, so tender, and the baby beets were amazing!!! The service was great, the food was excellent. I have no hesitation in recommending FOS for that special break in your day. Certainly will visit again. OkMore

Where do I start, we made a booking for 4 adults at 7.30 pm. We arrived on time, walked in and they pointed to our table, with little conversation. We sat and waited, finally we were given a glass of water each, she then left...without any offer of drinks. She stated that someone would be with us soon, it's now 8.00 pm and finally, the original waitress returned. She then asked for our drinks order, given the time, we decided to place our meal order also. She must have a brilliant memory, as she didn't write anything down? She walked away, roughly 10 minutes later, my daughters meal, was unavailable, so she chose again. 5 minutes later, another waiter arrived, to tell my son, his meal was also unavailable. So he had to choose again, which he did. Third time lucky, another return, to tell us another meal was unavailable, also they had run out of green beans (seriously!) The Restaurant had only been open from 6.00 pm, how can this happen? It is called FOS, maybe it should be called Fawlty Towers? I am in my 50's I have never visited a more inept Restaurant in my life. If I hadn't of known better, I would have thought we were being set up, but NO, this was for real! By now it was 8.45 pm, we knew the chances of getting an actual meal, were diminishing rapidly, so we decided to leave. Not a word from the staff, it almost felt as if this was not new, or they simply did not care. Sadly there were others arriving as we were leaving, I was speechless. I am loathe to run any business down, but I have nothing nice to say whatsoever, diners beware!!!More
