Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

What a lively, welcoming place! We loved our meal with so many flavoursome dishes, great wine, lovely service and well proportioned servings. The $65 “feed me” makes it easy and is a really generous sampling of wonderful flavours and tastes. Such personalised and pleasant service even though it was so full and busy. Highly recommend. Love the quirky eclectic decor too!

I went with vegetarian friend and decided to stick to vegetarian dishes of which there was a great variety. MY favourites were the Spanish omelette and the spinach and cheese croquettes. These were followed closely by the twice cooked potatoes and the asparagus with gazpacho. Unfortunately I had the churros - my eyes were bigger than my belly and I nearly exploded!! I highly recommend this restaurant and it’s wonderful kitchen and front of house staff. My friend told me that the $65 “Feed Me” delivers great food until you just can’t eat anymore. Don’t waste time on the 1 litre sangria - get the 2 litre - it is sooooo moreish

I only had a short stay in Ballarat last summer and had to go to this place twice because it’s so good. The food was amazing! It’s very popular too. Reservations are technically necessary if you want a table for dinner. Tbh I was not very impressed by the paella but the lamb skewers and the slow cooked beef cheek were absolutely delicious! Food is a bit on the pricey side but totally worth it.

I felt very uncomfortable and judged at the Meigas restaurant.
I have a condition where I cannot control my public reactions and I had heard that the Meigas restaurant was amenable to people with disabilities. It was the main reason that I booked this restaurant for my professional meeting,
I was enjoying my food with my professional colleagues and was highly embarrassed when I was asked to prematurely leave the restaurant because they believed that I was intoxicated.
I have a medical condition that affects my speech and communication skills . Whlie I was at Meigas I had 5 medium strength beers which was far from being intoxicated. After these drinks I was told by your waitress that "I was too drunk to have another beer". At this stage all my other "able bodied" colleagues had have significantly more standard drinks. I was very embarassed and at this stage I went to the toilet to avoid the humiliation / attention.
After I came back from the toilet I was advised by my colleagues at my table that a "Manager" had come to the table to say that "I" should take it up with the manager if I had any issues with the establishment's response. I feel that this was very aggressive against a disabled person.
I feel that disabled people should have the same rights in all restaurants as the general "able bodied" population.
I would ask that Meigas consider the disabled community as equal to their able bodied counterparts.
Firstly the waitstaff should not consider people intoxicated on their appearance. They should first discuss disability with the individual.
Secondly, I believe that Managers should not threaten people with disabilities. That is not fair, but also embarrasses and threatens the disabled person.
As a disabled person, I would avoid dining at Meigas.

Been to this Restaurant several times, loved it. Went on Tuesday night. It was terrible. The service was terrible the food was not up to its usual standard. Very bland. Drink service was slow and it was not very busy. I wonder if it has changed hands. I do not normally write bad reviews but I feel that the owner should be made aware that the standard of their staff was appalling and food very disappointing. It is such a shame as it was a great place to go. Not for me anymore.

Really nice atmosphere at the restaurant and the staff were welcoming and helpful. Great range of dishes, we went for six tapas dishes between four of us and it was plenty of food. Wine selection was very good and the waiter's recommendation was perfect and reasonable cost. Overall a really enjoyable evening, reasonably priced, good food and wine, highly recommended.

Meigas Ballarat Recommended by locals and now I know why
We were in a local store discussing places to eat as we always like to get a local suggestion.
As visitors to Australia Spanish food was not on our agenda but it was so highly recommended we had to try.
What a brilliant choice starting with a way to quick thirst quenching authentic Sangria suggested by our brilliant waiter.
Then an array of sensational Tapas that we over ordered because we didn’t listen to the brilliant waiter!
All served with a suggested choice of Spanish wines each carefully matched to our specific preferences.
Just brilliant do not miss out on this restaurant when you visit Ballarat

We popped in for lunch and upon arrival the staff were welcoming and friendly. The place had a few in there and the service didn't falter throughout our lunch. We were given some olives to nibble on whilst we pondered over the menu and ended up running with a couple of the suggestions from our waitress (garlic prawns & the beef cheek). We also had the croquettes and the peppers with goats cheese. All of these were delicious and we couldn't pick a fav. Cant wait to come back and try more.

Went for lunch based on a recommendation from Kelsey at the Provincial where we were staying.
Smallish room with lots of interesting Spanish-themed bric-a-brac on the walls.
Seated promptly with specials and options explained. Good selection of small medium and large items along with Bocadillos (sandwiches) that looked really good.
We had croquettas, charred broccolini, patatas bravas and a couple glasses of Tempranillo. Service was very good with the wine, bread and olives arriving in just a couple of minutes. Water was kept topped up and we were asked if all was to our liking. Yes!
We’ll be back and highly recommend you try it.

We were able to make a last minute booking for 2 couples on a very busy Sat night. Unfortunately they were short on staff due to them having Covid, so it was a bit slow to get drinks, food etc. But the place is very cosy and the food was great.

Found this terrific restaurant when we were in Ballarat last year and were looking forward to going back. Even better second time. Great atmosphere (you could be in Barcelona), terrific service, delicious food and some really good Spanish wines (try the Albarino). Standout dishes were the chorizo in red wine, twice cooked potatoes, ham croquettes and Spanish meatballs -but it was all good. Ballarat locals love it so be sure to book in advance.

A tiny but inspiringly delicious morsel of Northern Spain in the middle of Australian South. Such a hidden gem to be discovered only by accident and only in the best of companies. Outstanding tapas, including plenty of vegetarian choices, such as the most excellent aubergine slices. Obligatory churros and crema catalana due dessert are totally worth the calories. And if you're thirsty and can't make it to Asturias, ask for the one drink that will properly quench your thirst.

I love this place and have returned several times for the beautiful old world Spanish ambience, great service and delicious tapas menu with a mix of classic and more contemporary fare.
They go the extra mile for you here and I've always found it to be such a cosy and satisfying experience. You can even take a dose of Spanish flavour home with you as they have a great selection of imported gourmet treats to purchase as well.

Used to be a great little gem, with delicious food, service and atmosphere. Some are still the same but appears to be dropping the ball on the service side.
We sat first, ordered first, but the next table got everything earlier including our orders, How could one mix up orders for 2 vs 3 ! Today’s service was disappointing and alarming. The staff must’ve had a very bad day.
Dear floor managers, I wish you keep up the standards, or we will see this gem close down in the next couple of years.

El mejor restaurante en Ballarat. Wow from the moment you walk in you think you are in another country, music vibe and the Amber beer was great and each dish has its own unique flavor and style. We were luck to be served by someone who spoke spanish super friendly, attentive and added to a wonder experience.
