On a visit to Ballarat, I googled reviews before deciding on where to eat. I personally found this restaurant over rated. I ordered a stir fry…..The food was just ok- nothing special.

My work colleagues and I attended the Brown Grain Restaurant as it advertised vegan and vegetarian options. I ordered the Golden Tofu and Peanut Sauce entree and I’ve never eaten tofu that was so perfect! I followed that with Chilli and Basil Tofu Stir Fry...and was equally impressed, the flavours were amazing. Complimented by a couple of glasses of Eaglehawk Cab Sav, it was easily the best meal I’ve had in a long time.More
Having dined here on more than ten occasions, tonight was most disappointing and we will not be returning. We waited for more than an hour for our meal before letting our waitress know that we had not yet been served. They were clearly understaffed and...busy filling the endless takeaway orders as their priority. We were eventually told our meal was ‘coming’. After a further half an hour, we got up and left. I understand that there are staff shortages across the board due to Covid but the least the manager could have done was let us know there would be a longer than usual wait time when we ordered and give us the option of going elsewhere or offer a complementary drink while we wait. There is NO excuse for poor customer service. On the plus side, we went to ‘Gor Gai’ the next block up and were promptly served. The food and service was 5/5. The food is actually better than Brown Grain (and I’m not saying that because of what happened today). Unfortunately I found out later that they are both owned by the same people (different chef/recipes allegedly) so our hard earned will still go to their bottom line which is what I did not want when we walked out of Brown Grain.More
We had a family dinner organized at short notice while traveling through Ballarat. The feed was great quality with generous service from the team
My wife and I had dinner at this restaurant last night. There are many Thai restaurants in Ballarat but we decided to try somewhere different (other than Thai Sala Pavillion.) There were not many customers on a Sunday night so we were served promptly. We...chose the mixed entree and enjoyed the four small offerings although none of them was outstanding. Our two main courses were tasty but the prawn dish felt like it was heavily laced with MSG. (My lack of sleep confirmed this suspicion.) The Pad Thai was OK but nothing special. It wasn't particularly hot which was disappointing. Each of the girls who visited our table was friendly and concerned about our enjoyment of the meal. One offered to re-heat the left-over Pad Thai. Service was quite fast. The room is very large and lacks atmosphere. I must say, I am quite surprised with the high rating this restaurant has with Trip Advisor. It was average.More
We are all dining in Covid times, that does not mean that customers are treated without respect. After rudely being asked for ID the six of us were sat down. Waitress finely came to see us. Took our orders, food arrived it was ok with...good flavour. However three orders were wrong, waitress blamed the kitchen. After mains we waited for the waitress she finely came and dumped the bill and said your time is up! We took the later sitting so we didn’t have to rush our food down. I said we want dessert, she said too late time to leave. I said we really wanted dessert, the reply. Kitchen is closed! When I said why weren’t we offered dessert, the reply, we forgot. I then went to pay and the older women yelled at me, “wrong place go to the front. The six of us are foodies and we will not be back. We will head across the road where we are welcome.More
Booked and visited here for dinner, it was early and there weren't many people when we arrived. After some underwhelming entrees including some really weird spongy, fish cakes, we then waited over an hour only to be told that they'd lost our order. They said...they were on it and it would be out in 5 mins but after 10, we were still waiting. So we left, after being there for an hour and a half with a hungry 5yo. The waitress we had was lovely, but there weren't enough staff as the place filled up. Needless to say we won't be back. In short, don't waste your time and money, there are so many great places to eat in Ballarat these days.More
We ordered a veggie red curry, veggie stir-fry, pineapple fried rice and spring rolls for a takeaway meal, all of the dishes were tasty and good size portions. Would definitely recommend this restaurant.
Nice enough place, clean, plenty of room, attractively presented. I resent being required to supply a 100 character review.
we had a very bad time at this restaurant at dinner. I can not explain how bad and unprofessional this restaurant. food were not as the Thai cuisine and ingredients were totally meshed with too much junky source. Paid over hundred dollars and got nothing...for value dinner at tonight. Trip advisor need to reassess as soon as possible .More
At $15 the only dish I ordered - a takeaway seafood tom yum - is remarkably poor value compared to the larger sizes and cheaper prices that are available at Thai places in suburban Melbourne. At that price it should be a modest sized meal...and in Melbourne it is. It was not in this case. Very disappointing. Will not be buying from this place again.More
If you are looking for a meal, this is an okay place to go. The service is good. The place is neat and tidy. Nothing flash.
Great service and authentic Thai food. The staff was very friendly and the food was delicious. I would highly recommend it. If you visit Ballarat please try their food.
We'd booked our table for a Sunday night and lucky we did because it was quite busy. Had a nice table in the window, menus already on the table. Orders taken soon after, drinks came back very quickly, and meals arrived within 10 minutes, piping...hot. We'd each ordered a different vegetable noodle dish and found them both tasty. Good value for the money.More
On a really busy Friday night, they found me a seat and it was absolutely delicious. Chicken stir fry with beautiful fresh veggies and some steamed rice. Really lovely helpful waitresses also. Highly recommended
