Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Ham, cheese, tomato and pesto toastie: The toastie was nice and hot, with simple fillings, although what sparked my interest was the bread, which has got to be one of the crispiest and crunchiest bread I have ever had till this date, which made me go in for more bites. Service: I was serviced well but nothing more than that Vibe/environment: The freshly made pastries presented at the front to the walls covered with vinyls and CDs transports you to the simple times. The aesthetic may not be as inviting for the younger generation. But it is such a classic café from the steam sounds, to the clanking of crockery.

Great food & coffee in a cosy room filled with boxes of music record albums. Warm vegetable salad was perfect as was my husbands toasted sandwich with appeared to be cooked in a frying pan rather than being squashed in a toaster. Thoroughly recommend.

Coffee was amazing, really hit the spot with strength, flavour and froth. Scrambled eggs on GF toast very tasty and generous portion, well-presented. A visit here really made our day, thank you! Pastries all looked delectable.

We didn't have a booking but were squeezed in inside after only a 5 minute wait. Tuesday lunchtime, the place was packed and humming. All the staff were pleasant and welcoming, we watched the meals going out and they all looked terrific. I had oven baked trout on cauliflower mash, absolutely delicious and hubby had bruschetta. His mushrooms were delicious not like supermarket ones but full of flavour . We passed on coffee and cakes ; great choices were on display, but the coffee looked lovely and strong in the glasses . I would eat here again. Plenty of parking around.

Happened across this little gem. Tight squeeze to get into a table. Cafe was busy. Staff friendly and coffee lovers enjoyed the brew. All 4 of us had a different cake & shared each one.... favourite pear & ginger with caramel sauce. Thought it s bit expensive though at $9.50 per cake. Definitely worth a visit. Photo is carrot cake

We had travelled to Ballarat from Melbourne, primarily to visit the Sovereign Hill Museum - but wanted some lunch first. L'espresso fitted the bill. Quirky - with lots of music album covers as well as discs available. Food was quickly served and tasty.

Highly recommended this place, especially for a long black. Many coffee shops I visit in Ballarat seem to have little or no understanding of what crema is. My long black was excellent here and the almond and peach tart was to die for.

Post Covid Lockdown lunch out, and wow, was it good. Food was delicious as always and the staff attentive, and Ange looked after us in her wonderful warm style. Like coming home. Annie

It has been the coldest day so far. A miserable 7 degrees (but thankfully dry). Regardless, we bravely went for our morning walk, afterwards stopping for breakfast at a somewhat ‘trendy’ cafe. Lol. But the food and atmosphere was fantastic.

L'Espresso - saw this place earlier and promised to come back for lunch. The menu was enticing but the music collection was mind blowing (blues, jazz, rock and more). The coffee was absolutely to die for, rich flavour, the right hint of bitterness and just what I'm after. One to rival Eileen's! ☕️☕️☕️☕️1/2 Oh, the gnocchi wasn't bad either 🤣

This is our go-to breakfast spot in Ballarat. The coffees are consistently good and the food is always delicious. We had the scrambled eggs topped with crispy bacon and rocket..the best scrambled eggs I've had! The wait staff were very friendly, helpful and attentive even though they were busy. Thoroughly recommended!

Stop here once or twice a year due to family visits in Geelong. ALWAYS lovely service from staff, great atmosphere. Excellent food. Coffee is FANTASTIC everytime. Just remember though, most people prefer coffee above the now seemingly modern tepid temperature. A double shot flat white in a cup is more enjoyable more than warm..... see you probably in March hopefully !

Found this place by chance this morning so stopped in for breakfast after drooling over their food on display. Thank god we did, it was amazing. Everything we had to eat was delicious and the coffee was soooo good. So good in fact we made a reservation for breakfast tomorrow as it’s very popular. A must if visiting Ballarat.

Off the beaten track but this cafe served one of the best breakfasts we have had. Plenty of seating inside and out with ample parking in front of the adjacent church. If you are looking for a quality stop, go no further than L’Espresso Cafe. And an added bonus they love vinyl records which adorn the walls. Friendly service on a very busy morning, back for sure.
