Tried 3 Indian restaurants in a fortnight in Launceston and Pickled was hands down the best. We arrived early for dinner (were flying out later that evening) and were the first to dine in but by the time we left the place was full. The food is fantastic and the serving was good size. We had chicken tikka masala and goat curry. Yumm! The spice level suited us. The mango lassi was thick and delicious! This would be my go to Indian if I were in Launceston.

We’ve dined out at Pickled Evenings a few times in recent months. With a great selection of dishes and wines/beers, you will be guaranteed friendly service and value for money. We have visited as a couple only, and as a family group (6+ persons).

Pickled Evenings is highly rated for a good reason. Food was superb. We had tandoori barramundi to share for entree and then shared a goat curry, pumpkin and eggplant curry, garlic naan, rice and raita and all dishes were on point...bowls licked clean. Local beer and wine options were good and service was very efficient. Will return!

I agree with all the positive reviews posted here. Service was amazing, friendly, and welcoming. Food was equally as good. They even did a good job with imported Barramundi. I note in their promo that Tasmanian produce is sourced in preference to imported foods. Surely the humble Tasmanian Flathead or other fresh delicacies from our cooler waters would taste better than muddy Barra and would be more in alignment with Pickled Evenings objectives.

I’m a big fan of Indian cuisine so it takes a lot for a meal to impress me, but the food at Pickled Evenings was delicious! My partner and I had samosas (which have a great kick! Order a mango lassi if you can’t handle the heat), papadums and butter chicken with rice. The butter chicken was delicious, good cuts of chicken and a lovely mild gravy. The rice was fresh. At the end of the meal when paying the bill the waitress accidentally charged us the bill for a different table, but quickly refunded the difference with no fuss. 10/10 would recommend.

The entrees and curries were delicious. The butter prawn and onion bhaji was perfect. The staff weren’t the most attentive, there were a few mix ups with drink orders and curries. We booked in at 7, the food wasn’t very quick, we weren’t offered any more food or desserts and then were told the kitchen had closed and had to leave before 9. As a group of 6 on a Saturday night it would’ve been nice to stay on and have dessert or coffee.

This is a great place to enjoy tasty Indian food, particularly if you are looking for an extensive selection of vegetarian dishes. The restaurant has seating on two levels and also a small number of outdoor tables. Nice ambience and very attentive service, plus a wine list featuring local wines at very reasonable prices, makes this a winner. Highly recommended !

I just had the worst restaurant experience in the past 3 years with this one. We ordered an entrée which was tasty and got our hopes up, but in a few minutes the entire experience was a down hill journey for us. After finishing the entrée, we asked for a fresh spoon and were told that they cannot get us a fresh spoon since the hotel was too busy (4/10 tables were being served at this time) and if we insist she will have to wash it for us. We were still okay with the restaurant for this weird comment but then we were served a roti bread with pieces of clay from the clay-oven cooked with it.The worst thing was I ate a small piece of the clay. The main dish was okayish but we never got the chance to finish our dinner because of unhygienic food. The restaurant staff offered us a full refund at the end, but the damage was already done when they argued with us on the way out. We were repeatedly told that the restaurant was too busy but this is a 8 year old restaurant and I understand 8 years is a very long time to get enough cutlery for the guest and to maintain a basic hygiene while serving the food. I wanted to give this restaurant ZERO STAR rating but I don't think Google reviews will allow it. This is definitely a no go for me. In short, stay away from this restaurant if you want a healthy tummy. There are plenty of options in Launcie.

We dined here on our last night whilst staying in Launceston. It was not far from where we were staying, and we booked a table in advance. That was a good move as they were very busy. Entrees were samosa and chicken tikka. Both very nice dishes to start the evening. Mains were beef vindaloo and rogan josh. We like heat in our dishes, and the restaurant accomodated us accordingly. Despite the heat, the flavours still shone through, and we thoroughly enjoyed both dishes. Service was efficient and friendly, and we were not rushed between courses, unlike so many restaurants do today. This is definitely one of the better Indian meals we have eaten, and would definitely recommend Pickled Evenings.

We ordered the family pack which was $80. You got to choose three curries, two naans and some rice with a couple of appertisers. We do quite a lot of travelling and pricing was significantly higher than many other places we've ordered Indian at. Perhaps that's just Launceston though. The food was okay but nothing special. The naans were smaller than expected. Staff were lovely. We wouldn't go again but perhaps they don't have a lot of Indian to choose from down this way??? I'm surprised at the five star ratings to be honest. It's nice but average.

We have been going to Pickled Evenings for years and I have to say the food is consistently incredible as is the service. Nothing is too much trouble for the staff or owners. Pickled is our favourite date night spot and the kids love when we have takeaway as well.

Fortunately, we had booked and got a table downstairs. The service was very friendly and attentive, and we were soon enjoying a selection of wonderful dishes. These were accompanied by a number of fine Tasmanian craft beers. The food was excellent. The takeaway service was also thriving, indicating that the locals also enjoyed the food.

Pickled evenings was a ten minute walk down from our air b n b, we saw the reviews and decided to give it a go. To begin with the service was a little slow and we waited about thirty mins to order food and drinks. The waitress apologised for the wait and she let us know the food would be much quicker. We got the chicken tikka as entree and it was tender and flavoursome. Seriously delicious!! We also ordered garlic naan with butter chicken and it was the best butter chicken I’ve ever had. I ordered the mango lassi and it was sweet and tangy, the perfect mix which I loved. We sat outside and it was a beautiful evening. Overall the experience was lovely and the flood extremely fresh and flavoursome. Thank you!

Yum, traditional Indian food served with an array of local beers, wines or lassi’s. The food (and serving size) was outstanding, the service - good. We did not like the music playlist at all though. Mainstream music with the odd swear word ruined the atmosphere.

This restaurant was recommended to us and I feel it is my civic duty to tell everyone who visits Launceston to visit! Fabulous tasting food and generous servings. Although we didn’t have a booking, the staff were able to accomodate us and we are incredibly grateful that they did. Not to be missed well visiting or living in Launceston.
