The title says it all. Food was exceptional! Bursting with flavour but not overly complicated, refined but every element carefully put together to create an amazing final result. Hats off to the owners who have an amazing restaurant with incredibly talented chefs. A special mention...to Lucy, who as always was amazing! Perfect job all round, can't wait to be back.More

Novaro’s status as Launceston’s number one restaurant on Tripadvisor drew us to book here for date night. The building and setting is beautiful, the service is very friendly. Ignoring the paper over the table as a budget alternative to white tablecloths, everything was on track...to justify high end pricing - until the food arrived. My wife ordered crayfish and scallop raviolo. The delicate seafood was undermined by overcooking and overuse of dill dominating the dish. There was also a lack of seasoning. I ordered beef carpaccio, which was outstanding, melt in your mouth beef, perfectly balanced by onion and capers, along with a mouth watering horseradish mascarpone. Credit where it is due, this was a great dish, but it was the only dish served that wasn’t disappointing. For our mains, my wife ordered slow braised lamb linguini. $41 for lamb pasta is very unusual, we eagerly ordered it in anticipation of how outstanding it must be. The meat was undeniably tender, but overall the dish was lacking in flavour. For the price, we expected handmade pasta, however fresh, but store bought pasta was served. My main was a confit duck maryland. It was ok. It ticked the box, but again, we reasonably expected a $46 price tag to accompany an exceptional dish. This was not the case. The tiramisu we were served for dessert was heavy on chocolate flavour and not much else. The menu said Tia Maria, Kahlua, Masala - the flavour didn’t match this promise. It’s not often my wife and I leave half a tiramisu on the plate. The fig pudding with a honey sauce was better. Overall, the feeling we were left with was that the prices didn’t match the food experience. We are happy to pay those prices, but the experience must rise to the standard the bill sets. Sadly, this is not the case at Novaro’s. Hopefully the establishment can take the constructive criticism in the respectful way it is intended, without resorting to a defensive and patronising response, which seems to be common when reading through the responses to some of the less favourable reviews - or even a reprimanding phone call, by one account! In any case, I felt it important to document our experience for others to consider.More

We had a great dinner with amazing food and service. Highlights were the crayfish pasta entree and the kingfish which we had for the main. Great flavours throughout and the staff were really attentive without being overbearing. A beautiful dining room and a diverse range...of wines and other drinks available.More

This little gem is up there in the top two restaurants in Launceston. It has a very personal feel and yet the quality of the food and service is just as you would expect from top end establishments serving modern Australian cuisine. Superb dishes, entree’s,...mains and deserts. I have to call out the Affogato was the very best I have had - ever. It was the homemade biscotti that tipped it into top spot. You just have to come and experience this dining and service. Good wine list too but don’t be surprised that this will cost you if you like good wine. Loved it!!More

A quiet, sophisticated ambience greets you and the elegance continues through the service and presentation of the dishes. Everything was perfect, although with obvious restraint shown in the seasoning of some of the dishes. The complimentary shot glass of Carrot and Orange soup was very...much appreciated - I could have eaten a whole BIG dish of that! I have to admit that I am a lover of BOLD flavours, so the bisque accompanying the Crayfish and Scallop Raviolo was a bit too subtle for my tastes. More of the lemon and dill oil would not have gone amiss for me. The overall temperature of the Raviolo and the sauce was a bit on the "cool" side (I like my food steaming hot!) The Ricotta Gnocchi was better suited to my palate - sharp but smooth goat's cheese, along with the garlic crumb, really elevated this simple dish. The Tasmanian Wild Mushroom main pasta dish was superb, again with very subtle flavours, but an additional shaving of Parmigiano cheese and some black pepper would have given it that extra kick. The Pan-seared King Fish was amazing (and served HOT) and the highlight of the entire dining experience mainly because the fish tasted so good - there weren't any other bold flavours in the vegetables and potatoes that accompanied the fish. The desserts were a nice palate refresher, but I didn't get enough Vanilla Bean flavour in the Pannacotta, and with such a small portion, it was difficult to share any with my husband. Overall, "restraint" is the word of the day for this beautiful restaurant and I do appreciate what they are doing with their own style of Italian influenced dishes. As an Italian myself, who LOVES to cook, I never would use that word to describe Italian food. Due to the high cost of all of the dishes on the menu and the very high price for a bottle of wine, I don't think that we would make this a "regular" outing - only for VERY special occasions.More

We have eaten a lot of great food in Tassie but Novaro raised the bar! The lobster and scallop raviolo was to die for and the wallaby cooked to perfection. The wine list is impressive and the service is second to none. Well done!
