Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.

We first ate at the Me Wah 12 years ago when our family of 5 visited Launceston. We thoroughly enjoyed our night then and have always talked about returning.
We visited this time to celebrate my husband's 50th birthday and were not disappointed.
The service is impeccable and the food is a culinary delight that certainly tantaliseyour tastebuds.
The maitre d' is very knowledgeable with the pairing of wine to food, if you like that.

My partner and I visited this restaurant after reading reviews - we were not disappointed. We started with the Peking pancakes and crab dumplings for entree, both were delightful. Next, my partner chose the Chinese ravioli soup and I had the Szechuan Hot and Sour - he is still raving over his and mine was almost as good. Feeling a little full by now, we ordered the combination omelette with their special fried rice - I have to say that they were the best I’ve ever had. Washed down with a couple of beers and a bottle of Alicante Boucher from their extensive wine list, we left feeling very lucky and couldn’t wait to try their sister restaurant in Hobart!

First time at the Me Wah,
Nice welcome greeting taken straight to our table.
Food arrived in good time, excellent timing between entrees and main course
Very happy with the service, A mistake with the soup was handled well and the only reason i could not give a 5 star review.
The Singapore Noodles were divine, Cantonese fillet steak was melt in the mouth.
Kung Pao chicken not as spicy as would like but we asked for extra chilli and received soy chilli dipping sauce and this made it to our liking.
Looking forward to visiting again.
Thankyou for a lovely evening

A high class Chinese restaurant and I normally like dining there. Wanted to have lunch and got there at 2:05 pm the sign said lunch from 11:30-2:30 - walk in and was told no seating after 2:00 but can order t/away so I did order a lunch special and Singapore Noodles from the menu. The lunch special Chilli Combination was ok but the noodles....dry 2 small prawns, the pork was cut as thin as the noodle in strips...I would not order this dish again....Noodle Box is ten times better.

Impromptu lunch I’d been looking forward to dining here after so many recommendations, the service was excellent, the restaurant itself is quite stylish, the food at best is just run of the mill Chinese cuisine, it’s fresh absolutely! The seafood is fresh! The fried rice is bland, one dish we ordered I forget it’s name but it had no taste of chilli yet it was supposed to, & the nuts were way to many it was bordering on peanut butter with each chewing motion, it was Not a satay dish. We did also have a combination Szechuan which was easily the best dish. This may be the best Chinese restaurant in Launceston but would not be in my top 20, probably one of the main reasons for my harsh yet fair review is the cost of meals I found them to be expensive if the quality was there Fair Enough, but it’s not & I feel the prices do not match expectations the management have on their food.

My son can be fussy with food so we thought we would go Chinese as he generally likes fried rice. With the good reviews of Me Wah, we decided to book this place for an early dinner.
Staff are professional and the restaurant is clean and definitely high end feel with prices to match. We had their fried rice with prawn and Chinese sausage which my son absolutely loved. We also got broccoli stir fried along with braised beef and tendons. Most of the beef were tender with a few pieces a bit tough but this had good flavour.
We saw other dishes going out to other tables and they did look good.

An excellent meal and wonderful table service. The staff were extremely helpful and attentive. One of our group had a serious good allergy but that presented no problem to the kitchen who made sure to check all the ingredients with us. The wine list was delightful

The best Chinese we've had in years, impressing even my Cantonese mother which is hard to do.
The mapo tofu was incredible, and they catered really well for both gluten intolerance & vegetarianism. Will be back!

This above average restaurant is close to York park for an after footy meal, but you will need to book. The staff are courteous and attentive when they have the time, we felt they were 1 - 2 front of house staff short on the night. The food was top quality. We enjoyed sharing the dumplings selection, scallops and duck choy bow for entrees and then a main of seafood birds nest. The wine menu is most extensive with a large selection of local and oversees wines from budget to $$$$ if your budget allows. A nice way to cap off a great day at the footy and wonder back to our hotel.

An institution of Launceston dining. Cantonese food done remarkably well but more importantly service you just don't see elsewhere in Launceston. Attentive, knowledgeable, personable. Thank you Stanley and the whole crew. Merry Christmas

A step up from your average Chinese cuisine.
There's a very strong focus on quality ingredients and accompanying them with simple flavours that allow the produce to shine.
The wine list is chock full of treasures that are very generously priced. They "like sharing what we have with our guests".
We were taken by surprise by the desserts - they have many elements that work superbly, including a bit of theatre with the peanut parfait.
I can imagine this being a great place to celebrate at and we'd love to return and indulge ourselves with the signature banquet.

Chinese cuisine. The service was beyond impeccable, to the point that we were serviced perfectly by at least 5 staff. The interior and ambience also delightful. Would really recommend a visit, despite the dishes we picked would rate 7/10, mainly because the special fried rice was a little lacking. But that would be nit-picking.

While taking my mother shopping in Launceston she suggested lunch at the Me Wah Chinese restaurant that she and my father had visited frequently while he was alive. As we entered I was struck by the understated elegance and dignified ambience of the space. All staff were emaculated dressed in spotless and pressed uniforms and we were welcomed with a warm smile by the Maidre.
The table was in a quiet area but was subject to cold draft from the air conditioner. However, again it was emaculately presented stunningly clean glassware and a crip white linen tablecloth.
The first page of the menu lists an impressive number of awards won, including Best Australian Chinese Restaurant. The accolades thoroughly deserved. We started with chicken and pumkin soup and hot and spicy soup. Both followed Chinese tradition of small but delicious portions. We followed those with roast duck with plum sauce and Tasmanian scallops with ginger and shallots. The duck was succulent and tasty with the scallops soft and plentiful.
Finally we shared a wonderful Mango sorbet beautifully presented.
I highly recommend this restaurant for people who enjoy good food beautifully presented. It would be ideal for special occasions or indeed a meal for two. Note the food and location would not suit young children.
Take a cab or ride share as the drinks list is extensive from beer to good and premium wines, also parking is limited close to the restaurant.
I will be returning before flying home to Queensland as this is one of the best Chinese restaurants I have visited. Awards are truly deserved.

Went for Lunch with some friends for their anniversary , Door opened , napkins placed on our laps, nothing any trouble.
Food was a reasonable price, nice but didn’t wow me. What did wow me was the service, perfection,
It was my friends anniversary / a birthday and they brought out deep fried ice cream for free for us to celbrate.
We shared plates so I was able to taste all dishes my favourite would of been the the seafood in a nest
My food rating would be a 3 but the service a 5
Would I go back yes but not my absolute favourite but pretty good

Takeaway lunch special is fabulous! $12 for a meat dish, fried rice, drink or prawn crackers. I was in Launceston for 4 days and had takeaway on 2 of those days. Would have been three if they were open on a Monday! I had the chicken satay - flavour was great and just a hint of heat. My son had the chicken curry and loved it. The Mongolian beef was also sensational.
Stanley was accommodating and very friendly.
Highly recommend.
