Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.

Came down for a drink and some dinner on New Year’s Eve. Drinks were great, loads of choice, for both cider and beer drinkers. 3 starts because when I asked the bartender about placing an order for dinner he said “sounds like a you problem”. So went elsewhere for food. Otherwise not too bad.

Not usually a fan of Pub Grub, although I have to admit we popped in for lunch on a rainy day I ordered the Porterhouse steak which was superb, cooked to perfection with a lovely pot of mushroom sauce, a large helping of very nice chips and a salad. The lovely young barmaid was a delight and we were very impressed with her manner. Previously we had eaten steak in high end restaurants and it was dreadful compared to this meal. It is not a five star establishment by any means saying that I would happily give a ten out of ten for our meals, and the service we received.

My wife enjoyed the scallops, which were panko crumbed and a reasonable size. I had the sirloin which was a little over- cooked, but only just. Steak was plonked on the salad, which didn't do the salad much good; chips were average, so just ok. We were advised that they provide a 10% discount if we mentioned that we are staying at a local motel, but that wasn't honoured at all. Mid-strength Beer, soft drink 2 meals for over $75??? Lucky we didnt get a cab!!

This was our first pub outing after the coronavirus lockdown, which added a certain excitement to the venture. Still being fairly new in Launceston and being rather cheated of opportunities for eating out lately I was keen to try the Gunners Arms. We've driven past it on the way to Kmart, you know, "oh that looks nice, we must go there" sort of thing. I rang up to check if they were open for meals, yes, then I mentioned I can't walk up stairs to their dining room, not a problem, will set you a table in the back bar downstairs. We arrived and good as their word. There's also a disabled toilet, and level access. Now for the meal. We've all been craving chicken schnitzel and so we had chicken schnitzel with chips and salad. My youngest son had parmigiana, my eldest son and I had red wine and pepper sauce with our schnitzel, the red wine and pepper sauce was divine! The schnitzels were panko crumbed, crisp and golden on the outside and well cooked but still moist and juicy on the inside, perfect! Chips were the same, well cooked fluffy on the inside and crispy golden on the outside. I loved the salad, mesclun with red onion, julienned carrots, finely sliced red cabbage and chefs own delicious french style salad dressing, lovely. I could not fault the meal. We also ordered a garlic/cheese bread from the starters menu, it was a pizza and totally yummy. I can't drink due to health reasons but they had some interesting looking alcoholic beverages on tap, Spreyton cider for instance. There's also a lovely real wood burning fireplace in the front bar. Do not be alarmed by the 'bison' head over the bar, he's of the species 'plasticus syntheticus'. I'm looking forward to returning to the Gunners Arms to try other things from their interesting looking menu.

Went out for my Birthday with my wife, one of my daughters and her partner.
We were seated upstairs in the restaurant. There are several white painted rooms, which are a bit stark. But the rooms are clean and well lit. Just lack a bit of atmosphere.
Menu is typical pub food. Not that I have a problem with that. We all found something we liked. I had a chicken linguine dish. Which was very tasty.
My wife had fish and chips with salad. Generous serve well cooked. My daughter was happy with her Schnitzel and chips although the pepper sauce appeared to just be gravy with some extra pepper added.
Her partner was happy with his Parmi, chips and salad.
Pricing was very realistic. Including drinks only came to $117 for 4 people.
Service was friendly and efficient.
Would definitely consider going there again.

Friendly service. Food was good, I had a Parmy. Price was fine. Sat outside, found the traffic on the intersection overbearing as in noisy - it was around peak time. I suggest sitting inside if attending 5pm to 6pm.

We had planned a boat trip along the Tamar River during the next morning and thought we would do a reconnaissance of the area during the evening. As it was late, we decided to find somewhere close by and came across this pub.
The meals and drinks were well priced and the venue comfortable with friendly staff. This is very popular with the locals and luckily we were able to walk in without a booking.
We enjoyed our visit and would definitely come here again. 😀

Visited for a bite to eat following a long day of travelling and a recommendation from our hotel nearby. We were not disappointed. The team were very friendly. We were delighted to find the dining area upstairs. We chose the fish and chips as aswell as the Tasmanian salmon (latter recommended by the waiter). Both were very tasty and cooked to perfection and very fresh. Would definitely recommend this place. Thanks for a delicious local meal.

After our last experience read prior review ordered a wine which came from a freshly opened bottle we were off to a roaring start.
Place was packed with 2 functions going on in seperate rooms we decided not to dine in the dining room which we didn't even know was there so we sat in the bar area.
Ordered the tacos which were beautiful and fresh filling and tasty and bar size calamari again fresh and tender. $40 for dinner and a round of drinks for 2.

Having worked up an appetite walking in Cataract Gorge on the way back to the motel we spotted the "Wednesday special" advertised outside the pub, being schnitzel and a beer for $15. We couldn't resist and certainly made the right decision. I had pork schnitzel, my wife chicken schnitzel, both delicious and served with a good portion of chips and salad. Add a lovely glass of Boags draught and a pleasant atmosphere - what's not to like?

We had a meeting in the room upstairs. Great free venue. My partner had a pork dish he really enjoyed. Crunchy veg's and tasty gravy. My steak was cooked to perfection. An honest pub meal
