Good place for breakfast

We (two couples and one kid) went for breakfast in cafe Melzar. Our order: Toasted chicken sandwich Big breakfast Avocado Delight Pancakes (from kids menu) Juice We liked: Pancakes looked beautiful and were delicious Food was delicious Lots of vegetarian and vegan options Freshly squeezed juice (without ice and not diluted with water) We did not like: Ambience was not cool Crowded (probably a popular cafe for breakfast) We had asked for a glass of watermelon juice, a glass of pineapple juice, a glass of orange juice and a glass of apple juice. However, we were served 4 glasses of mixed fruit juice (watermelon, pineapple, apple and orange). Staff apologised and happily replaced the juice on our request though.

Would recommend for a good breakfast

Would recommend! Staff are friendly and helpful, we have scrambled eggs on white bread ($17.50) with a side of bacon ($8) and the classic two stack, with a kids cheese Vegemite on toast and a pot for 2 of tea! Total of $59 Food was great, no faults at all! I would of hoped for larger portions sizes for the cost

Half a cheese kransky but still nice

Ordered the big breakfast with a coffee. The total cost $24. It came out quickly and the staff were friendly. My only disappointment was, the menu said a cheese kransky, but mine was cut in half, lengthways and only half was on my plate...not sure where the other half went? The two eggs were beautifully done, and the toast was nice, but it was on the small side, therefore at this size I would have preferred an extra slice, one for each egg. Overall, very nice and I will go back.

Very disappointed

Went here because the trip advisor rating was good! We were unfortunately very disappointed. It was busy when we arrived for what we thought was an early lunch at 11:30, the only table available was outside. We waited 35 minutes for our simple meals, a chicken burger and open steak sandwich, the sandwich was drizzled heavily with some unknown oily green ‘sauce’. Tasted unpleasant. The chicken burger was dried up chicken in an over cooked crispy coating on a slimy mix of something! On a dry bun. The iced coffee was strong but ok. We won’t be back! Almost forgot to add the smokers on the table next to us who ‘politely’ stood less than a metre away from their table!! 😳

We’re sorry to hear that you did not enjoy your visit to our Cafe. Our wait times are generally 20 minutes, but during peak times it can stretch to 30-35minutes (you mentioned you visited in peak with only one table available meaning that approximately 45+ people had placed their order in the same time frame as you). This is within acceptable ranges during peak trading. It is incredibly rare for us to receive poor feedback on our chef prepared food (in particular our steak sandwich with caper dressing; the “slimy oily sauce” you refer to), and we greatly value feedback in all forms. Had you raised your concerns to our staff at the time regarding your meals our chefs would have rectified whatever issue it was that you had or we would have happily provided you with a refund. In regards to the individual smoking, you were seated in the outdoor area which is next to the car park. Had you alerted our staff that they were upsetting you, our staff would have done everything possible to remove you from the area and find you a more suitable area to sit. However, you did not express your concerns. We wish you luck at other establishments you wish to visit. Regards, Cafe Melzar Management

Bit expensive

Breakfast was lovely BUT very expensive! We both had scrambled eggs on sour dough with bacon , 1with Rosti , an orange juice and a hot chocolate $72 ! Felt a bit ripped off as the bacon (2rashers each) was an extra $16 . It worth it and won’t be going back there !

Nothing spectacular.

Rather disappointing. We went here due the the good reviews, but were left disappointed. Coffee was very milky and weak. Bacon was crucified and the tomato was far much better. Average at best. 5/10

Excellent breakfast/brunch

It’s been a few years since I have been lucky enough to visit Mount Gambier and enjoy brunch at Cafe Melzar. It hasn’t changed much, which is a good thing. They’re doing something right, and I personally hope that they keep doing it for a very long time. Pretty busy on a (post long weekend) Tuesday morning, but service was still prompt, polite & professional. And the food is simple, generous and very, very good. Keep it up!

Amazing place. It looks like nothing and is down a side street but this was one of the most amazing breakfasts. I had the big vego and my friends had bacon eggs. The review - best scrambled eggs ever! Period! Highly recommend!

Delicious breakfast

The best breakfast I’ve had in a very long time! I ordered the Corn Jack Stack (without the eggs) and didn’t want it to end. It was so delicious. Their whole menu looks delicious. Highly recommend!

We were there for a Sunday breakfast. I would say we were lucky to get a seat. Looks like the place is really famous among tourists. We ordered different foods. Breakfast burrito was amazing. All the items were good. #SundayBreakfast #FoodieLife 🍳🥦🍽

Great place for brunch

Came for brunch. Have been meaning to for awhile but live an hour away. Great selection of brunches which are available all day. So hard to choose what to have. I had sourdough toast with dukka, smashed pumpkin, balsamic, poached eggs and lots more. Husband had corn cakes, poached eggs, halloumi, rocket and more. Both delicious. Good coffee too.

Love Breakfast here!

I love going to Melzars for food and drinks! The Chai is my favourite and the hash stack is delish! Staff are always friendly and the atmosphere is warming.

Berries 4 AUD - exactly 11 blue berries

The meat lover breakfast was good and rich. But the pancakes were dry and the berries for 4 AUD ( I count 11 blue berries) that‘s a bad joke.
