Went here the other night after reading good reviews and my husband and I had very different experiences! Restaurant was reasonably busy but we were seated straight away even without a reservation! We were a bit uncomfortable as it was far too warm for us, a bit more a/c would help! Food experiences differed. I had Moussaka with a dressed salad which was wonderful however my husband didn’t enjoy his steak much. It was medium rare as requested but the outside was far too overseared. Almost burnt and very tough. The accompliments were all mushed together, he didn’t enjoy it much at all! Overall I would definitely go again but my husband definitely wouldn’t!

A Saturday Night dinner for 2 Couples. I enquired beforehand about BYOing wine - yes, you can with a $15 surcharge. Quite reasonable. Initially service was a bit slow, whether staff numbers were cut back due to COVID restrictions, I'm not sure, but staff were running all over the place. Once we ordered, the food took over. My mate go the Beef Cheeks and 3 days later is still raving about it. I must admit, it was incredibly tender and just melted in your mouth. The Pork Belly special was a very generous serving and the Mare Stella (Seafood Pasta) never disappoints. The staff whilst busy were very friendly and the Manager (I presume) was very appreciative that I wanted him to taste the wine we brought with us - I think that's good manners to offer a taste.

We have been going to this cafe on and off for nearly 20 years with service being a bit and miss. However lately we discovered the omelette for breakfast with chorizo- it was so tasty and spicy. Today we went and they’ve changed the menu and it’s no longer on the menu - why?? The chef gave me a tasteless omelette with chunks of potato in it. Won’t be ordering that again. We may have to rethink our Saturday breakfast visits

Went for a pizza lunch today. Service was sooo slow and our waitress was miserable. We ordered the Tony Soprano with no garlic, only to be informed the tomato base has garlic in it but they would leave off the garlic oil. That’s good of them. The pizza was hard and the longer it sat there the harder it got! It got too hard to finish. I told the waitress who cleared the table what was wrong after she asked “how was the meal and are you all done” She said she would speak to the chef. We did have a lovely bottle of Rockford Riesling which nice and cold. On paying for the meal I was informed that I would not be charged for the pizza which was really good of them. The pizza did not seem to have had yeast or salt as it had no smell or flavour just very hard probably made with just flour and water. Number 1 pizza restaurant in Glenelg? I don’t think so! As for social distancing well that is a big NO! As for sanitiser that also is a big NO! There as NO sanitiser in the place and no sanitising of tables after people had left also it was ONE wet J Cloth to clean all tables without cleaning it or any sanitiser spray. And we wonder why the virus can spread! The menu’s were picked up and given to other patrons without wiping or sanitising! . .

Had the chicken salad (grilled) for $26 and couldn't eat the chicken it was so overcooked and dry. Told the waitress and she could not have cared less! The table was sticky and felt like it needed a good scrub. Would not go back to this cafe.

I went in for brunch today and was very disappointed with the service. Upon sitting down a young waiter came to give us the menus. He threw the menu at me with no apology. Then the young waitress came to take our orders which never arrived. After waiting for a long time I asked the waiter where our order was. He went to check and came back asking what we had ordered. Apparently the order ‘did not go through.’ There were not many people at the cafe so to say it was busy would not have been an excuse. I saw several of the other people who worked there laughing at us after the waiter went to speak to them. And so we decided to leave. We will never go back there again.

Booked for a small group online, presuming COVID precautions with distancing would be met, and that lunch bookings would be scarce. No external sign of any COVID precaution, no hand gel visible, no obvious distancing of tables with 22 plus people in the front outdoor area. When waitress removed our menus they were immediately handed to persons on next table, no cleaning observed. Waitress played with 3 dogs in seating area, then stood up and cracked pepper over other diners meals. Asked for the Marshall to be told that they have all done the course, so I explained my concerns to her. Stated she would tell the the staff it was not suitable infection control at any time. Very disappointed to see no change in staff behaviour with hygiene process, nor any disinfection of tables and chairs between diners. Would not consider revisiting this restaurant, despite the food, wait times etc being satisfactory. My answers are based mainly on my concern with lack of COVID precautions.

Extremely disappointed with my meal at The Strand. I ordered the chicken parma with no toppings… just as a plain schnitzel. When it came out, it was a parma with no cheese… but covered with sauce and ham. Waitress was fine and brought it back to the kitchen. 5 mins later, my schnitzel comes out and all seemed good. But I noticed a bit of the sauce on the chips, so I flipped the schnitzel over only to find that instead of making me a new schnitzel, they had scraped the sauce off the schnitzel and served it up again. The remaining crumbing was still soaked in sauce. I ordered the schnitzel plain as I don’t like tomato sauce. I scraped off as much as I could and ate what I could. I didn’t say anything to the waitress as I do not trust what they would have done to my meal if I had said something. We complained when we paid the bill, which in the end, I felt like we had been legally mugged! There are a lot of good food options on Jetty Road, so maybe consider them before stepping foot in this place. I would give no stars if I could.

The waitresses were disorganized. Our own waitress was in a horrible mood and grimaced anytime we ask for something. I had to ask for the same drink 4 times. The service was so bad it spoilt our evening. Despite the dismal service the food was actually good.

The end result food was good, however wasn't what I ordered so they had to take it back to the kitchen to make again. Then at the end of the meal they didn't take the entertainment book voucher, which is the whole reason I booked the restaurant in the first place (their reason was no voucher with split bills - however it doesn't state this on the voucher, menu or anywhere). Very disappointing and will not be back or recommending to others.

Dining here will long be remembered. We ordered and there was a power failure which wiped our order off the computer system. When our lack of food was bought to the attention of the staff we received complimentary drinks and garlic bread on the house. The group of six had a wide range of food. The ragu gnocchi was great, some of the best gnocchi I have been served. The ragu sauce was rich and tasty. The calzone was rated as ordinary. The salads were tasty.

It's been a long time between visits (over 3 years) but wanted to see if as good as last time. Welcomed at the door and given a choice of seating. Menus handed to me and immediately asked if wanted some water. A whole bottle was then brought over immediately which is a big tick in my book. Breakfast menu had a number of choices. Asked for the big breakfast but rather than Chorizo could I have Avocado? This was no problem. Coffee and juice brought out shortly after placing my order and while I waited for my food I read a newspaper that was complimentary. Big breakfast was very nice. Bacon crispy, eggs poached and still with a runny yolk. Mushrooms, tomato, hash brown, avocado and 2 slices toast all enjoyable too. Staff attentive and pleasant. Only drawback was the coffee. It was pretty bitter which some might like but not me. Mind I haven't found a place in Aus so far where I have enjoyed a hot coffee. A good black coffee is very hard to find. Overall I enjoyed my meal and felt the staff and atmosphere very welcoming. Would wholeheartedly recommend.

We discovered the restaurant which is situated a little further up from the main dining area close to the beach. We were delighted to have found it - the ambience was nice & our Pork Belly meal was so delicious. We were sorry that we discovered it so late in our holiday as we would have been back.

Friday night. Ordered chicken & fungi risottos. Husbands chicken risotto came out curry looking & tasted like curry, but have had this twice before & not supposed to include curry. My fungi risotto is supposed to be a brown in colour as also had here before, however this time came out white in colour & just had champignons mushrooms with lots of cream & just Parmesan on top - very tasteless. These risotto’s are nothing like we’ve had here before & very disappointing. Further my husband now has diarrhoea from the curry & has spent most of day on toilet - all from an ingredient that should not have been in the dish. We did not speak up at time as could not be bothered further waiting for another dish to come out. All in all, very disappointing. Would not recommend the risotto’s.

Have eaten here many times. Always noisy whether inside or out. wonder whether there has been a change of ownership recently. We ordered focaccias which all had very small main fillings. Mine was changed because I showed the waiter the miserable amount of salmon in my focaccia. Won’t be coming again, very disappointing. The wine was cold. And as previously mentioned no hand sanitisers that I could see.
