We were showing some of our family from Zimbabwe around the Cabarlah area and decided to have lunch at the Farmers Arms Tavern. This is the oldest licensed hotel in Queensland and has great ambiance. The staff were lovely and we chose pub fare and were very impressed with what we got. I have to tell you it was the best hamburger I have tasted in a loooong time! and would recommend anyone in that area, stopping off for a meal.

Worth the drive from Toowoomba. Great staff, both at the bar and those serving. Food was fresh and plenty of it. Snapper was a very generous size cooked beautifully in a beer batter. Chips were top notch and the help yourself salad was plentiful with a great selection that even the fussiest eater would have trouble faulting. Sweets were also a generous serving with the chocolate mud cake getting top marks.
Once this corona virus situation is resolved, we will be back to sample other items listed on the extensive menu.

This hotel is in surprisingly good condition for its age - easy parking and friendly staff. Mains are ordered from the kitchen with a self serve vegetable and salad bar and drinks at the bar.
Given the amount of punters in the place service speed from the kitchen was quite good. Steak quality was average without being great. The lady behind the bar was friendly and bubbly but having a bad evening (three incorrect orders while I was standing at the bar)

We went for dinner tonight with another couple. Ordered a beer and lemonade, got a beer and soda water.
Tried to order roast of the day, sorry no roast. So ordered Rissoles and mash $18, said on menu that seniors get a 10% discount. Showed my card, got the discount no problem, the meal arrived, one rissole on small amount mashed potato and gravy. Asked why they say rissoles on menu when you only get one, was told it is two but this is a seniors meal so you get one. WHAT??? Why offer a senior discount then take food off the plate.
I have had a lot of meals with senior's discount at other places and have never had less food then others because of it.
Did I say anything, no I did not, why? because its not my job to tell people how to run their business and how to treat their customers. Also it is embarrassing. I can tell you this though, we won't be back

Definitely not worth the money sorry

We dropped in last Saturday night, glad we booked, the place was packed. I can not believe a pub can serve such fantastic food. Everything we had was amazing and great value. I have never had better Garlic bread ( served with melted cheese and bacon). It just got better for all 3 of us. The staff are fantastic and very spot on with the service. Meals were quick, and plates removed quickly. We went to the bar and the Publican and other staff seem to mind read.
I really cant fault this pub. I just wish it was my local.
Oh, one fault, the Publican thinks he's a lot funnier than he is.

Trying hard to support a local eatery every Thursday Trivia night. Food is well over priced and poor quality. Last nights meal was on the verge of inedible. Won’t be going back until restaurant significantly improves.

This place is true hidden gem. First thing you see when you walk in the restaurant door is the warm, crackling fire place. The next are the smiles of the wonderful, friendly staff.
The food here is proper, generous portioned pub food.
The drinks are plentiful and varied.
Toilets good and clean.
Next door is a kids playground also.
If you are in Toowoomba, it's about 15 minutes out towards Crowes Nest. You can then head down to Hampton and loop back down to Esk, through Fernvale and back to Brisbane.

One star for being open for meals Wednesday night - which they arent 7 days a week. As a local, like to support local businesses. Food here is consistent - always bad. Every 12-18 months we give their meals another try. For at least the last 6 years we have always regretted the decision - just when you think it cant get worse, it does. Any local you ask turns up their nose. Photo on this web site is very out of date.
On this occasion 2 of our party of 4 had rissoles & mash, 1 an eye fillet steak, and the other 1 bangers and mash. Any one of the following issues on their own would be excusable but, in combination, made for a totally disappointing experience.
* 2 of us asked for the side of steamed veges. These were disgusting and tasted like they had been soaked in vinegar water - maybe to stop them discolouring....
* 2 of us opted for senior meals (with a 10% discount). Nowhere on the menu does it mention that senior meals are considerably smaller than full price - one rissole or one sausage instead of two does not equate to a good deal at 10% discount.
* The eye fillet steak was definitely not eye fillet, maybe rib or sirloin.
* All the meals, apart from the steak were obviously not freshly cooked and clearly microwaved.
* The young man delivering meals to tables clearly had had no direction regards customer service (not his fault) and should not be in this position.
Is the licensee of this establishment serving these appalling excuses for meals as part of the conditions of his license? Or is it a tax writeoff? It is almost inconceivable a "restaurant" could unintentionally be run so badly. If not, why not bite the bullet and get a real chef, reinstigate fresh food, advertise the fact, and enjoy local support - passing trade will get you nowhere in the current environment. Where are you Gordon Ramsay?
In summary, this business is an untapped goldmine. In its semi-rural but growing residential area it is prime for repeat local business - within walking distance for families.

The atmosphere is a basic pub but the quick and friendly service and large, very tasty food makes it worth a trip here for a meal.

The Farmer's Arms is the oldest pub in Queensland (1863) and is well worth a visit. You walk in the door to a beautiful warming open fire and warm timber furnishings. We took a vistor from Melbourne for dinner and we were all delighted by our experience. The food is delicious and generously served. The staff were welcoming and friendly. The music was unobtrusive and we could chat comfortably. Families are welcome. If you're visiting Toowoomba, visit the Farmer's Arms.

We were staying in Hampton for the festival and decided to try the oldest continually licence pub in Queensland. We arrived about 5, had a drink in the public bar then moved into the dining room at 5:30 for dinner. Great selection of food at good prices... neither of us were super hungry so we opted for what we presumed would be the smaller meals, as they were on the cheaper side - one serve of rissoles and mash (potato) and one serve of bangers (sausages) and mash with steamed veges on the side. Food came out so quickly (largely because we were so early)....heaps of food (could not finish my meal...not for the wany of trying!) And tasty!!!
Highly recommend the Farmers Arms...put it on your list when you are in the Toowoomba area!

The Farmers Arms Hotel is Queensland's oldest hotel! Situated in Cabarlah between Highfields and Hampton (about 20 minutes drive from Toowoomba). If coming from Brisbane a scenic drive via Murphy's Creek, and a return journey down the Esk-Hampton road, with a coffee in Esk, is suggested. The Arms has a pleasant dining area. We had $15 Brisket Burger. There were a range of options around this price (eg. Bangers and mash) and more expensive options such as salmon. Desserts were tempting. A quiet mid week lunch. If you like to experience history pay it a visit.

I took 18 people here for lunch on Sunday and we weren't disappointed. I've been here many times and the food has always been excellent and the service friendly. The place has a nice atmosphere. In winter the fire is going; in summer it is light and comfy. I highly recommend the roast pork!
