Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Food is okay and service is good. The only thing is that they charged 5% surcharge if paying on credit card which I don't think it's legal.

Fantastic authentic Japanese food run by friendly Japanese. Not the best setting but the food really makes up for that.

The type of restaurant you might find in some seaside town in rural Japan. Decor is old and tired, but food is good. Sushi is freshly made by a very skilled chef. Overall a good place for authentic Japanese food without breaking the bank

I was looking forward for the first visit due to high rating reviews. It was 1745. I asked for a takeaway menu. The waitress gave me a look and said “We don’t have takeaway menu” Then she said “We are busy. We don’t do takeaway!” The waitress’s attitude made me so disappointed. That’s fine. She is not interested in doing my business. I won’t go again. Disgusting service.

Probably the best sashimi I’ve had, all lovely and fresh with beautiful presentation. The miso and sushi were delicious also. Has a very back-alley vibe, something you might find wandering around a Tokyo suburb. It was hard to find - it is in The Forum Arcade between Orchid Ave and Surfer’s Paradise Blvd.

I’ve known this place for long time. I had no chance to visit . It’s my first visit for lunch. I had Chirashi $25. It looks very beautiful 🤩 I tried some sashimi first, they were very fresh 😋👍🏻 But unfortunately the sushi rice was not nice😫 The texture and flavor were not my favorite 😭 Miso soup was nice 👍🏻 I just disappointed about sushi rice😢

This restaurant is so authentic. Tucked away in surfers paradise which is full of glamourised restaurants, this place has the most authentic charm and food. we have visited many times and each time have been so satisfied. We highly recommend the sashimi- so fresh! We have worked our way through the menu and each dish has been amazing. You need to come taste the authenticity of Japanese cuisine at its finest here!

This restaurant is located in an almost dodgy area where there is no signboard indicating this is a restaurant. However, the food is fantastic! It brought me back to Japan, with fresh sashimi and homely. I ordered the simplest food, the pork katsu don and it was done really well. I had the large sashimi platter as well and it proved to be very fresh and intricately prepared. Literally booked for the next day. Highly recommend! The couple running the restaurant are honest and just wanted to prepare homely food.

I have been here every time I come to GC.... such a good quality sashimi they have. I had a KAISENDON TAKEAWAY for $25 (miso soup included)Yes . Surfers Paradise is getting really quiet again because of the Covid..... we need to help this little Japanese dinner survive;)))) Highly recommended. It locates in a bit depressing little alley near Hilton Hotel though they open for lunch and get busy for their reasonable BENTO BOX UNDER $10.

Hidden in a covered pedestrian alleyway between Orchid Ave and Surfers Paradise Blvd Amimoto fits the classic definition of a 'hole in the wall' restaurant. And it delivers on that promise of inexpensive yet delicious eats. I had the 'A' set plate of sushi - basically a deluxe nigiri platter - served with miso soup. The fish was fresh and delicious, the rice had good taste, temperature, and texture, and the 'other' toppings - tamago, prawn, scallop, flying fish roe, and salmon roe - were quite tasty as well. Water and tea (both iced and hot) are self serve as are the dining implements. And it's a 'pay at the counter after you've eaten' kind of place. The hostess was kind and helpful...though the service mainly consisted of telling me what (and where) I should be doing on my own. The decor inside the restaurant was perfectly fine...though I would have found eating in the dark, low ceilinged 'alleyway' somewhat depressing. My only complaint is that the miso soup was served at the same time as the sushi...and I don't know if that is how they normally do it or if it was because I entered just as the restaurant opened.

I went to Amimoto in the evening with my family. It was not hard to find thanks to alot of photos from other travellers and their recommendations were on point with this one. Amimoto is a very humble restaurant that exudes an experience that resembles Japan and it's traditional feel. The food was prepared perfectly, especially my chirashi which was well presented and tasted amazing. If I stayed any longer in surfers, I would be back!

My brother in-law visited this little Japanese restaurant on his last trip and recommended I stop by for meal as I love little hole in the wall or hidden little gem of a restaurant and it didn’t disappoint. Let’s face it the restaurant is very run down and has not seen a facelift in a long time but there is certain charm about keeping it simple and letting the food speak for itself. I believe the sushi chef has been standing behind the counter for over 20+ years which adds to the sense of authenticity. The food menu is quite extensive but we settled on a main size sashimi plate, set A which I believe consist of an assortment of nigiri sushi and a miso soup and for the young toddler we ordered an udon bowl. The food was beautifully presented and very instagram worthy. The tuna we had with the sashimi plate was not fresh but overall the food very delicious. The decor of the restaurant is outdated and they had self service water and hot / cold barley tea. The price point for this restaurant is reasonable for the amount of food you get. I would recommend you stop by for your sashimi fix. We plan to go back to have the sea urchin bowl which they sold out last night.

After a weekend of Western food I was craving sushi and Amimoto had a rating of 4.3 and it did not disappoint! The staff were accommodating and after living in Melbourne it was a pleasant surprise to hear them speak Japanese. Amimoto has an extensive menu and were quick to put together my take away order, which was deliciously fresh.

Stumbled across this place down one of the alleyways in Surfers and it doesn’t get any better! Second time visiting for dinner last night - BYO wine is a bonus! The most amazing fresh sashimi, the salmon literally melts in your mouth. The sushi sets are great and they present them so beautifully. The sets come with miso and or rice depending what you choose. Authentic Japanese and the staff are so friendly. Highly recommend!
