Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Refuse to visit again. Overpriced. Misleading product content and poor customer service. When sold cheese and bacon in the absence of cheese and onion, was not expecting to bite in to minced beef. Signage said cheese and bacon, in fact the rest of the descriptions...could be questionable. The veg said veg, the veg and beef said veg and beef why would I think beef would be in my pie? When raised they said that’s how they come and refused to exchange the product or even consider apologising. Nothing they can do allegedly.More

I rang and asked for a fresh large Tiramisu cake. I specifically asked if its fresh and not frozen because I had an issue once before with a frozen cake from them. The answer was no its fresh. Once again when I arrived, I asked...is it fresh and not frozen again the answer was fresh. Picked up at 3pm was at room temperature for around 2 to 3 hours. When cake was cut it was frozen in the middle, so we didn't eat it. Contacted them the next day and was offered a complimentary cake. I rang up to defer it for a few days due to work commitment and got the owner on the phone he tried to explain himself, but it was nonsense. In other words, he did not intend to honor the complimentary cake. What goes around comes aroundMore

The highly inflated prices for the below average food is shocking, defiantly a place I wouldn't return to or recommend to anyone

I ordered a large Tiramisu cake for my Mum's 88th birthday, Looked amazing, tasted just like cream. I had even asked for extra coffee as my Mum likes the coffee taste. But you couldnt taste coffee AT ALL. Not AT ALL. Very disappointing and we...had one for 30 people. I thought Tonittos would know how to make a Tiramisu as they are supposed to be Italian. Just be aware you may not get what you ask for here.More

I bought a Continental cake today for my dad’s birthday and I was very disappointed after my first bite! They sold me a stale cake which tasted disgusting! They charged me full price, $40 for a small cake which was stale! This place use to...be good many years ago and now it’s just a rip-off as their products are expensive but not fresh!!More

TONITTO CONTINENTAL CAKES I wasn’t going to write a review as I am a regular customer and thought everyone within the Illawarra region knows the existence of this place. But I was totally surprised when I discovered a friend of mine, who was born and...raised in the Illawarra region, had no idea this gem of a place existed. Tonitto was established since 1974, was Illawarra’s first continental cake shop and still going strong, which is evident that they have the ‘perfect recipe’ of a successful business. And here’s why I think they are still in business. In my opinion, they know what people want and sell the best and affordable continental cakes available in the Illawarra region. You have the freedom to buy their delicious cakes, biscuits, pies/sausage rolls and much more that is baked fresh on a daily basis in their shop. You can either dine in or take away and there is also easy, accessible free on-street parking available. As a ‘first-timer’ of continental cakes, I would strongly suggest to buy a ‘Mixed Plate’ for only $18 – a fair price. The Mixed Plate consists six of Tonitto’s most popular pastries but smaller version: Cannoli, Cannoncini, Vanilla Slice, Fruit Tarts, Sospiri and Bigne. I’m guessing for the polite people, it will take two bites per pastry or if you’re anything like myself, one bite and it’s gone! I call this plate a ‘test taster’ where you can easily indulge all six without feeling sick and then select which one is your favourite and buy the ‘actual’ sized pastry – which I did, two Cannoncini (vanilla and chocolate) at $4.50 each. I traditionally buy six Mixed Plates to welcome the New Year to enjoy with family and friends – the smiles are priceless and what a way to start a new year! They also offer custom-made cakes to make that special occasion memorable, or just browse their library of cakes they already created online to select from. In our case, it was my father-in-law’s 80th birthday. He loves his traditional, authentic continental cake (vanilla sponge with two layers of custard – chocolate and vanilla covered with their delicious cream) but he also loves their biscuits – Amaretti, Pastine, Conchilge and Croccantini. We wanted the best of both, after all… turning 80 is truly a milestone! With the help of Loretta (the daughter of the founder of Tonitto’s – Vincent Tonitto), she helped us to personalise the cake. After sharing with her what he loves (their continental cake, the small pastries and biscuits), Loretta suggested that it is possible to have all three by presenting them in three tiers! And that is what we selected. She also told us that they can also provide a custom hand-made cake topper. We knew we wanted something to mark his 80th, which Loretta suggested to design a huge number 80 with explosive stars as the centre piece in icing and lots of star-shaped icing with 80 on them scattered throughout the other two tiers. The presentation was very impressive – my father-in-law told us that it was the best, happiest and most memorable birthday he had ever had.More

I guess I should have known when I walked in around 3.30 in the afternoon to full cabinets - no way would that all have sold that day so would all be brought out the next day and who knows for how long ......... Custard...fillings had huge cracks where it had dried out and that's when I should have left but still went ahead and bought a few things. The Cannoli were passable, I guess they have to be freshly filled each day, the Sfogliatlla might have been delicious when they were fresh but the filling was hard, rubbery and stale. So disappointing because I'm sure the ability is there it's just you have to chuck stuff out and put fresh stuff in everyday or bake less ?!!??? Your stale cakes are wrecking your reputation.More

Great selection of continental cakes! After moving from inner-Sydney I struggled with finding a decent cake shop like the one I used to frequent. Now I feel like I have died and gone to dessert heaven. Leaves Sydney cake shops for dead!!!!!

Looking for a place to it in Port Kembla and we found Tonitto's. Better known for its cakes we found it also has pies and sausage rolls. The pie was average and could have been heated a bit more. I suggest you stick to the...cakes and try some where else for general food. Note: they do have seating in the street.More
