Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We enjoyed a stunning meal at Ruby's on 5 November 2021. We were there to celebrate my sons 21st birthday birthday with family and had one of the private dining rooms. The restaurant has lovely old world charm. The food was impressive and tasted amazing...(see photos and menu). The chef and owner Scott Woods was very accommodating as a family member is allergic to basil. Scott has worked at Michelin-starred restaurants in London and at Aria under Matt Moran. The staff were attentive and went out of their way to help us during the evening. It really was an outstanding experience and a very memorable night for a special occasion.More

I am writing this review late, as visited for a big celebration in Jan this year but wanted to still write this review to say the degustation at Ruby's is worth every penny! The food, service, location, ambience was outstanding, it is a pricey but...well worth it experience! If you enjoy degustation you won't be disappointed!More

We celebrated our 38th (!) wedding anniversary yesterday with dinner at Ruby's. The magic started with the drive there along a scenic country road. The restaurant is a beautifully restored historic building. We had the best table,in the corner next to the window, looking out to...trees and sky. The service is professional and attentive. The chef's mother is very friendly and welcoming. To top it all off,the food is excellent! We thoroughly enjoyed our five-course degustation. We bought some of Scott's fig and ginger jam. Delicious! Thank you for making our celebration such a memorable one!More

First time dining at Ruby's with friends. After months of staying home due to the covid, we decided to dine out and try the degustation. You can choose between 5 or 7 dish degustation. We all went for the 7 course degustation for $115. A...few of us went for the wine pairing as well, which is $160. I really enjoyed the first 3 tasters - started with an ocean trout ceviche with finger lime, followed by labna with summer vege salad, then a goat cheese with nettle emulsion. Loved the flavour combination. Next came the braised oxtail with smoked eggplant. This was a much bigger serve, probably a little salty for me (personal preference). Then came the braised lamb shank, roast lamb backstrap with jerusalem artichoke and quandong jus. Another meaty dish, generous serving, my favourite is the lamb shank that was already removed from the bone and shaped into a ring. The backstrap I thought was a little well done for me (again personal preference - I like my steak medium rare). Dessert was a hungarian poppy seed cake paired with mango sorbet and berry compote. I thought the pairing was off, I enjoyed them separately but not together. Everyone at the table had the same thoughts. Overall, our dining experience was lovely, there was only 4 other tables near us (we dined in June 2020 a couple of weeks after restaurants were allowed to accept dine-in customers). We sat and drank till past 11pm and didn't realise! The staff was so obliging to let us stay so long and so late. They didn't rush us out! We thanked them for a great night, it feels so nice to dine out again with friends.More

From first sight to the farewell gaze Ruby's offers a unique experience. We were visiting from Sydney and dropped in for the 5 course degustation. It was as fine as we have had in Sydney with friendly (yet unobstrusive) service. I especially liked that the paired wines were not big market labels, but carefully selected smaller Australian...and NZ regional vineyards. Exceptional value for money.More

Have eaten here twice now for full menu (set valentine’s menu and 7 course degustation with wine pairing). I could not fault one thing and each course was better than the last. The wine was exquisite and our service was excellent. Price is worth it.

My daughter & her new husband recently held their wedding reception at Ruby's. I cannot speak highly enough of the venue, food & service. Many guests commented that the food was the best of any wedding that they had attended. The marque was well set...up, & the perfect size for our wedding of 80 guests, & nothing was too much trouble for the staff. Certainly a night to remember.More

Brought the family here for Dad's 70th birthday and we're certainly not disappointed, this place is amazing. The degustation was beautifully made, obviously so much care and effort went into every delicious morsel. Having the chef himself come out and present one of the dishes...to us was a real treat. They catered beautifully to my fussy 9 year old too, hand-made chicken strips and chips no less! And dessert of course, sure kept her happy. The hostess was amazing, attentive and friendly but not overbearing. Have us all the information we wanted and kept us happy all through the meal. Nothing was too much trouble. Lovely Lady. Definitely the place for a special occasion. Highly recommended.More

Rubys is located in Mt Kembla Heights, a long way up the hill well past the village. It used to be a general store and has been converted into a restaurant/function centre. They only have a set menu comprising of options of 5 or 7...courses with or without accompanying wine. We went for the 5 course including wine at $110 per head. It was excellent, none of the servings were huge but the flavour combinations were exquisite. The 5 course selection was more than ample for us. Service was excellent with good explanations given about each course and the wine that went with it. The tables are well spread out and it was easy to carry on a conversation without shouting, which seems to be the norm in a lot of other eating places. It is a little expensive but for a special occasion well worth it.More
