About
Goonoo Goonoo Station, a property in the Tamworth region built in 1831, has recently opened as a worthwhile luxury destination. Combining the history of the station with modern design, owners Simon & Sarah Haggarty have transformed the property into a spectacular retreat. At Glasshouse Restaurant you will find a buzzing atmosphere thriving on a team of friendly, inviting and professional staff, an exciting modern menu based on a shared dining experience and a wine list carefully hand-picked by "The Wine Man" aka Peter Bourne, all in a building beautiful in its contemporary aesthetics. On entering the restaurant, contemporary design merges with the warmth of hardwood timbers, polished concrete floor and brass detailing throughout. The restaurant holds table seating for approximately 90 patrons, plus alfresco dining seats, as well as lounge seating on the open-air terrace. A separate space, with views of the kitchen at work, hosts The Chef’s Table, spanning the length of the room and catering for larger groups in a private setting. The adjoining event space in the beautifully restored old woolstore is something to behold. Original barn doors, great solid beams and poles, the stencilling on the walls all enhance the old country feel. With a menu focussed on regional produce and share plates, Head Chef Damion Moyses can be seen working through the open-style kitchen, adding to the culinary experience. The fare can be described as modern, hearty, country Australian. Glasshouse at Goonoo Goonoo Station is open Wednesday & Thursday for dinner; Friday for lunch and dinner; Saturday & Sunday, breakfast, lunch and afternoon drinks. Bookings online through Open Table.

We stayed, unfortunately, only one night in the Shearer's Quarters and had dinner and breakfast the following morning at the Glasshouse Restaurant. The restaurant has been built on top of a hill in between the old Woolstore (which has been totally renovated and appears now to be a large function room) and the old disused shearing sheds. As the name would suggest the restaurant has very large floor to ceiling glass windows that afford great views over the surrounding countryside. It was about a 7/10 minute uphill walk from the Shearer's Quarters to get to the restaurant. We were required to book both for dinner and breakfast. The dinner menu was not large with a choice from five entrees, four mains, three sides and four desserts though there were seafood and vegetarian options included in each of the first two courses. As entrees we had the lemon myrtle confit salmon and the octopus and mussel escabeche. For mains we both ordered the 200g eye fillet with cauliflower puree and baby vegetables with a side of baby potato salad. All of these dishes when plated looked appetising and didn't disappoint. The beef was cooked perfectly to order. For dessert we shared a Native Davidson plum and salted caramel bombe Alaska - delicious! We thought that most of the dishes were reasonably priced given where we were. Wine list again was not overly extensive and there were a number of good options at what appeared to be good restaurant price points. The menu for breakfast had six main choices included bacon and eggs, corn fritters, house made granola, walnut and raisin toast, house smoked salmon and smashed avocado plus a list of additions that you could have ordered to go with these meals. There was also a children's menu. We had the house smoked salmon, corn fritters, a jug of sparkling water, two fresh orange juices and two coffees and the bill was only $62 which we thought was comparable to most Sydney cafes. Staff on both occasions were very friendly and efficient. Would absolutely dine here again even if we did not have overnight accommodation at the property.

To say that my wife and I where surprised would be a phenomenal understatement! Nothing against Tamworth as a place, but to find such exquisite dining, in a beautiful setting, a good wine list and top notch staff was not expected. It was 2 January, so unsurprisingly a few items needed to be ‘managed’ on the menu, the floor staff where upfront and honest about it and the substitutions where excellent. We started with the charcuterie and scampi, which where delicious, I followed with the Jewfish replacement of Barramundi, and my wife had the pork neck. While my fish and corn combo was delicious, my wife’s pork was the winner. We finished with cheese and bombe Alaska. Overall, food was deliciously unexpected, Emma and her floor staff where fantastic, the view was perfect (thank you lightning storm). The wine was very nice, the only possible improvement I could recommend is possibly investing in a corovin system to expand the wines by the glass options.

The contemporarily designed restaurant sits interestingly between historic buildings and overlooks beautiful countryside. The menus are not extensive, either for breakfast or dinner, and we felt that the chef was perhaps trying to be too clever, with a wide range of often unusual components used in each dish, albeit they very well balanced. Breakfast was particularly complex, with the offerings all being rather exotic and very untraditional. That would be fine except that a slice of toast, choice of eggs and other traditional (?boring) breakfast choices were not available as an alternative to the unusual and overcomplicated offering. The service was very attentive, the atmosphere pleasant, prices offered good value for money and we enjoyed the experience of dining here. However, we did not return for s second breakfast or dinner, opting to go elsewhere as once was enough!

Stay at the station and breakfast for two mornings. These were lovely. Disappointed with dinner, the vegetables on the steak dish was cold. The Trevalla was ordinary, nothing special. Commented on cold vegetables to wait staff. She was most helpful and provided a discount on the dish. Must mentioned all the staff were wonderful, with smiles on their faces, helpful all the time Recommend heat lamp be installed in kitchen to keep dishes warm

If you are in the service industry then 0 out of 10. If you are in the rudeness industry then 10/10. My wife and I dined with you in January, there was COVID spacing and our table for two was orientated so that one of us got to enjoy the view of the kitchen and not your spectacular location. We asked if we could rotate the table 90 degrees so we could both enjoy the view. The waitress said yes so we did. She then returned and advised that the manager had countered that and that we had to return it to the original position due to ‘Covid’ . In both positions we were no closer to any other diners. When we pointed this out we were advised we had to move it back. We were then ignored for the next 45 minutes by all floor staff and the manager, a team of 4 in a restaurant of 20 guests. I had to grab the waitress by the arm so we could order a drink and place our order. We were then ignored for the entire duration of our meal, other than for the staff to sullenly ‘dump’ our plates on our table. Absolutely unbelievable.... had it not bee 9.00pm and your location 25 minutes outside of Tamworth I would have left, but having driven from Sydney to stay at Goonoo and being bloody hungry, the thought of a lonely bag of chips and the tube of Pringles in the room persuaded me to stay. Wasn’t going to submit, but a friend at diner last night recounted a similar story.

Way too expensive, all the food was fine, but left feeling dirty after paying $160 to leave hungry. I had to grab food on the way home. It bewilders me why if you charge roughly $50 for a meal, you would only provide roughly a tablespoon of mash, and 3 - 4 cherry tomatoes as the accompaniments. Just beef up the meals a little bit and give customers a full stomach at least. I have been here for breakfast a few times and the value much better, but I honestly will never return for dinner due to these prices. In general, I’m pretty happy to pay for whatever, but I should leave full and feeling like I paid for a night I won’t forget. Unfortunately, I feel like I was kind of ripped off, and would have been able to get something of pretty similar quality for 1/3 the price at a pub.

Absolutely appalling that I was not able to have an a la carte breakfast as I was with a group and told by the staff that it was not possible as everything was already prepared and they could not make any other meal. Then incredibly others diners not with our group were given the a la carte menu. The set breakfast was not suitable for vegetarians. It was almost too much effort for me to get a second bowl of granola as the first was microscopic

Situated amongst rolling hills and mountain scapes with a contemporary and stylish fitout that takes advantage of the heritage of the area and Goonoo Station in a modern and tasteful manner. Service from our reception to the end of our meal was courteous, unobstrusive and attentive. The menu although limited (by season and it was winter) was a delight and provided innovative and clever use of local ingridients, native herbs and spices and first class fresh produce. None of the dishes dissapointed and all were to world class or Michelin standard. A wonderful dining experience. Rates with the best restaurants in Australia and is a credit to the Chef, kitchen staff and service staff. All were courteous, friendly and attentive to make our dining experience a delight.

We were staying at Goonoo Station had enjoyed breakfast, lunch and dinner at the Glasshouse restaurant over a few days. The restaurant is very contemporary and modern with a lovely warm ambience. The food is equally good and the service outstanding. Book ahead to avoid disappointment as the restaurant is also very popular with the locals.

This is my second visit to Glasshouse but my first for day time views! The service from check in to the meal and departure were all excellent. We had a window seat which was lovely, there is an extensive wine selection. The mains menu was limited due possibly to the covid virus but what we we chose which was all we ate, were very nicely presented and tasty. I highly recommend this restaurant, the staff were perfect, the views great, the building is very unusual and I really couldn't find any fault with anything at all. It topped off a great stay at Goonoo Goonoo Station.

Excellent atmosphere and food. We are here as a group of 8 with 2 kids. Lovely ambience to sit outside pre-dinner and have a drink. We are here 2 nights. The first eating our own meals and the second choosing an assortment of the share meat dishes and sharing amongst the table. It would be good if they served hot chips also.

This modern looking restaurant is situated at Goonoo Goonoo Station. They offer a small but interesting menu. Atmosphere is nice in this spacious restaurant, staff super friendly and in the day you have nice district views. The entree of Confit of Salmon was nice, our 200g eye fillet was cooked perfectly and beautifully seasoned. The twice cooked chicken was also delicious. The sides of carrots and charred broccoli was excellent. Desert of white chocolate ball and bombe alaska were good but not memorable. Good variety of spirits and a solid wine list also available by the glass. Good night highlighted by some wonderful mains and sides. Worth a visit.
