Location, ambiance, service and food - fabulous! Entree - scampi linguine (truly yummy) Toothfish - how exotic is that! Cooked beautifully. Salted caramel dessert (sorry full name has left me) was delicious Great service accompanied this wonderful meal. As expected in a hatted restaurant the wine list prices were a little sharpish, however, this is somewhat expected. We enjoyed a lovely evening. Thank you.

Nice upscale place for dinner. The scampi linguine were perfect. Signature dish tooth fish is interesting and tasty. The wagyu a bit smoked, cooked to perfection. High quality cut. Wine list is extensive though selection by the glass a bit limited. Serving style really annoying as they use the wine saver (injecting sterile gas) is very slow. I get this for top shelve wines but for a whine that costs 15 by the glass is a bit over the top. Prices on the more expensive side. Starters around 30 mains 50. Service quite chaotic with some of the staff clearly inexperienced.

Definitely recommend this spot! The menu is gorgeous with a perfect amount of options; all the food was beautifully cooked and flavoured with some unexpected combinations that just work so well. The wine list is world class with something for everyone including some very well priced bottles so you don’t have to go overboard (but you can definitely splash out on some superb wine if you’re in the mood). The service was excellent from the get-go; Lou and team really look after you and Lou (owner/sommelier) makes you feel special with his personal touch! Pricing is very reasonable vs Sydney prices and it is well worth it to visit this lovely place. There is also a lovely vibe and you can see/hear/smell the ocean which makes for a lovely setting. 10/10 - get there! :)

This was not the experience I expected given the top reviews on this restaurant. Having experienced restaurants around the world, i found this disappointing from start to finish. Except for the oysters which were amazing. I found the waiter with the wine very rude, he actually looked the other way without engaging. The food waiter never asked me how I wanted my steak cooked and without thinking i failed to say. I thought their fillet steak was poor quality and cooked badly. The table set up is not at the level of the classy level charged. I live in Asia and it seems that when I reflect on dining experiences across South East Asia and Europe and then compare to Australia (my home country), Australia has a lot to learn. I was a bit stunned! But definitely try the oysters in these pictures.

We enjoyed a lovely dinner at the Stunned Mullet. Everything was perfect, from the welcome to a delightful menu and we were in awe of the 33 page wine list, which was accessed online. The service was first class and could not be faulted. Thank you. The restaurant featured large colourful paintings which were quite striking, and the overall ambience was warm and safe in terms of table spacing positions. The menu specials, which were additional to the set menu cost , were tempting but we selected the prawns and scallops to start, which were very well presented. Our second courses were the confit duck and the fillet steak, both of which were well cooked and tasteful. For our last course we chose the cheese platter but we were disappointed that we were only given breadsticks rather than crackers, as they were not practical for the soft cheese. Our wine selection was a bottle of Italian Pino Gris, and glasses of the Rockford GSM, which were good accompaniments to our meals. A very memorable dinner and certainly a recommended venue for that special dining experience.

After the reviews we arrived expecting something special. The Covid formalities were completed on the footpath with a little more difficulty than in most other places but no complaint about that. We were seated and waited just a little too long for the waiter to explain the menu. Food and drink ordered we were expectant. The menu offered a reasonable choice and at $95 pp. it was good to have a choice as many restaurants in Covid times are only doing set menus. The oysters ordered in addition to the set menu failed to arrive and the waiter seemed blissfully unaware of this when he brought the entrees. Reminded he offered to bring them after the first course. We passed. His previously friendly manner seemed to go the same way as the oysters from there on in, until he helpfully explained how we could add a tip when paying. The scallops were good but the crisp king prawns were nothing special. The tooth fish main was excellent, cooked to perfection and in a miso broth. The steak, ordered medium, was very rare. Clearly the chef got his timing wrong. The deserts were lots of strong flavours, interesting in themselves (for example, the sesame ice cream) the but not necessarily well matched. Given most of the reviews we expected better. It would also be better if the lighting was just a little brighter, at least enough to read the menu and actually see the food. The wine list is impressive, and the prices were reasonable for a fine dining restaurant.

It is hard to think of enough complimentary words to describe our experience at The Stunned Mullet but I will try. Firstly the dining room is beautifully presented and is well backed up by extremely friendly and helpful staff. From the moment you walk in it feels like you have been upgraded to 'First Class'. The evening ahead is briefly laid out for you and you begin you perusal of the exceptional drinks menu and what can only be described as the 'Holy Grail' of wine menus. Just when you have finally decided on drinks, the food menu is placed in front of you and the journey of amazing choices begins again. Finally we can make up our mind and settle on something, finding peace in the fact that everything on the menu would be incredible. The starter arrives and is immaculately presented. We ordered the Tomato Expressions and could not even imagine how something as simple as tomatoes was done in such an elegant and incredibly satisfying way. For main, one of us had the Toothfish and the other the Confit Duck Leg. Each bite brought a wave of happiness and would have to be the some of the most amazing food we have ever had. Just when we thought we could take no more, dessert arrived and wow, just WOW!! One had the Brownie and the other the Coconut Sorbet. Both were orgasmic in the mouth and each bite was met with moans of pleasure. Luckily no one was sitting near us. It is really worth the experience and you will not leave disappointed.

We have been here almost every time I have visited Port Macquarie and this restaurant never fails to deliver. Definitely five stars. They used to offer a full A ‘la Carte menu, but have now gone to a set menu (2 or 3 courses) chosen from 4-5 options per course. Each time we have been I have chosen the $95 three-course option, as it seems to be the best value for money and a chance to sample all three courses. The wine list as extensive and includes several wines by the glass if needed. For a couple, you are probably looking at about $260 for the three-course option with wine/coffee. The restaurant often books out quickly lately due to the Covid dining session restrictions, so book early online at their website.

As a hatred restaurant we expected a high level of execution. The table settings for one was average; no table cloth and paper napkins. First course: I had the Byron Bay pork loin which was cooked well, but lacked some flavour and was slightly dry by the time it was served. It was presented with a wilted shredded salad. My wife had king prawns which was average. My daughter’s scallops were really good. Mains I had the glacier 51 toothfish, as recommended by our waiter. It was described as having a taste akin to lobster, which is an exaggeration. Why try and suggest it would taste like something else. The fish should be celebrated, and it wasn’t too bad, but then again average. My wife had the eye fillet, which was served with a purée and 3 sprigs of spring onions. Nothing else. This lacked balance and wasn’t seasoned well either. My daughter had the scampi linguini which was really good. Dessert My wife had 2 slices of cheese with some paste. You could knock this up for under $10, without formal training. My daughter and I had the entremet of black forest, dark chocolate, vanilla, sable, sour cherry sorbet which was absolutely beautiful. Wine selection is impressive! In summary the executions and table setting doesn’t justify the price tag, and we expected more from a hatred restaurant. It was a good dining experience, but not a great one.

Fabulous meal with fabulous service. From being seated to departure we were looked after. Friendly informative service l, great selection of wines and marvellous food. The Toothfish was outstanding and the three courses were terrific value for such high quality preparation a mid presentation. The tawny port topped off a wonderful dining experience. The restaurant is tribute to a passionate and dedicated owner with a clear vision for excellence.

It is worth stopping in Port Macquarie just to eat at the Stunned Mullet. (The Koala hospital is a bonus.) My wife and I had a delightful dinner there with innovative dishes and a remarkable wine list. My wife's toothfish was exactly as described - a very deepwater fish that seems a blend of fish and lobster. The owner was very helpful and with his guidance we enjoyed a delicious Australian Chardonnay. All of the staff was knowledgeable and interested in making sure we had a great experience. Dessert was zabaglioni (I believe) under a biscuit with red fruit on top. We shared one and went after it like we had not eaten in days, And I topped off my meal with a nice Grappa. We are still talking about this remarkable restaurant.

I came here for a dinner by myself after work. The guy named Rob (a mid age guy) looked at me with his nose constantly emphasising this is a $95 set menu restaurant without any greeting. I still decided to give this place a go regardless his rude and arrogant attitude. Sadly none of the staff recommended any food for me while the other guests were all well served. Nice entree. Very juicy and tender wagyu short rib. But the rest of the dinning is kind of blind eye adventure. I guess this place is good just for the local people. The quality of customer service depends on how you look like and where are you from.

We have been to this restaurant 3 times. This time the food was very basic. Wine waiter knew his stuff and our wine was great. We had no amuse bouche or palate cleanser. I asked for medium rare steak....sorry it was RAW inside. It was nice where it was cooked but flavours are not as good as it used to be. All i got with steak was three small carrots. Very basic. The dessert was supposed to be kumquats and it had cream which was tasteless and brittle hard thick toffee that you would break teeth on. It was overall a very expensive and very let down meal. Tasteless and basic. Sorry its lost its magic. Not sure how they still keep their hatted restaurant. A hatted restaurant should be able to cook a steak exactly how you like it. This was really boring flavours. The entree was beetroot tortellini which was like rubber. Really disappointing dining experience.

Greeted with a smile at "The Stunned Mullet" entrance, we were pleased to see that full COVID19 entry procedures were in place and being FULLY checked. Ushered smoothly in and to our table, we were informed that we could remove our masks while seated, but to ensure we wore them if we needed to leave our table. All good. I have five measures when rating a restaurant. 1. Menu choice & food 2. Service 3. Ambience 4. Value 5. Views. So..... 1. The Stunned Mullet offers a 1st class menu for their set choice dinner selections at $95.00 per head. My wife and I were more than impressed with both the choices on offer and the quality. 9.5 /10 2. The service was friendly, and imformative. My only small criticism was there was a slightly lengthy delay in waiting for our entrees to arrive. 8/10. 3. The Stunned Mullet is a relatiively small restaaurant, with a warm and sofisicated feel. 9/10 4. In terms of value we were more than satisfied with the quality and detail of the dishes in realation to the cost. 9/10 5. If seated near the front of the restaurant, glimpses of the distant shoreline and beach are possible. 8/10. Overall a great Port Macquarie establishment well worth of a visit. 8.7 /10. We will be back for certain. In fact I've already booked a return visit.

Fabulous lunch with a wonderful view of the bay. Excellent food and friendly professional service. Both our entrees ( Seared Hiramasa and Scampi Linguine ) were world class. My main of Patagonian Toothfish was one of the best dishes I have ever eaten. My husband's Hiramasa was tasty but a little dry. Dessert was small but every mouthful was delicious. The wine although expensive was excellent. We have dined here on our annual Christmas visit to Port Macquarie for the last 4 years and it has never disappointed.
