We enjoyed a very nice dinner here for a special occasion just before covid-19 restrictions. The venue is modern with beautiful views of the vineyard next to the Cockfigthers ghost cellar door. The staff on a whole very friendly and professional. We enjoyed the seared scallops and prawn and spanner crab dumplings delicious and beautifully presented for entree. For mains the roasted fish of the day and full blood Wagyu beef tri-tip. Dishes very well presented the fish was delicious unfortunately the Wagyu beef was a let down very tough and hard to chew. The wines are very expensive with a huge mark up considering the location next to the cellar door. On a whole we had a very enjoyable evening with good food, wine and service i am looking forward to our next experience. N.o 1 on T.A for a good reason

I recently attended a work event at Hunters Quarter. There were about 35 of us and we had a set menu suggested by the chef (always risky!). We also had a wine tasting organised with next door and a number of dietary requirements, including vegetarian and gluten free. We were there over a week ago and my colleagues and I have not stopped raving about all of it. The view when you walk in is breath-taking, Phil who was from Cockfighter's Ghost was amazing and not intrusive but definitely knew his stuff. The waitstaff were always right there when we needed another canapés or refill and the food was exquisite! The pumpkin arancini balls with burnt sage butter are forever in my memory, as are the prawn wontons. As mentioned earlier, I'm always a bit wary of a 'buffet' style menu where large groups are involved but this was truely divine. Fresh salads, hot prawns and steaks. It was all topped of with an amazing (and gluten free) chocolate cake for a couple of birthdays. It was truely a fantastic evening that will be impossible to beat.

My partner and I went for lunch at Hunters Quarter on a Saturday. As soon as we walked in, we were greeted by a very polite waiter and welcomed to our table by the window showing the beautiful view of the vineyards. This was definitely fine dining - everything from the high quality of service to the presentation of the food was exquisite. The staff were very attentive but not overbearing and the food was delicious. We had entrees, mains and shared a desert from the a-la-carte menu and were impressed with everything. We are looking forward to coming back again in the future.

The restaurant itself was clean and beautifully set out. The menu was a set 3 course menu for $110, which wasn't specified when we booked, but we didn't say anything about it. I had also specified we had 3 vegetarians in our group upon booking, but there was only one vegetarian option for entree and one for mains. The menu on their website showed a good selection of vegetarian food, which is why we booked in the first place. The set menu didn't offer that variety we had wanted. The waiter then came to take our drinks order, and while my friend was deciding which cocktail to have, he began tapping his fingers impatiently on the table next to her menu. Another friend then ordered an espresso martini, and the waiter made a rude comment about it being "a bit late for espresso" but she could order it if she really wanted. As it was my birthday, the girls had also organised a cake to be delivered as a surprise for me, and went to tell one of the waitstaff that we wouldn't need to have the dessert on the menu. They did not like this at all, and insisted we take the dessert. So we couldn't enjoy any of the cake after it was brought out, as we were too full. The food itself was absolutely delicious, so it's a real shame about the poor service and limited vegetarian options.

We booked here for an 8pm seating but on arrival were told we had to wait for current occupants to leave. Waited over 15 minutes and when we were finally seated, did not receive any menus for another 10 minutes until I finally flagged down a staff member. We were a bit disheartened by this point but once we did order we were impressed by the generous portion servings. Kingfish entree was nice but my main (potato dish) was absolutely drowning in sauce and was not very pleasant. The torched brie dessert was quite delicious. Wine list by the glass is extremely limited.

We had dinner here on a relatively quiet weekend in January for special occasion - beautiful location and pleasant ambience. Service was, on the whole, very good and the food was delicious. Our entrees comprised of the spanner crab dumplings and scallops, both of which were amazing and overall the cost for dinner was very reasonable given the presentation and quality of the food. The main reason that we have chosen not to give them an ‘excellent’ review is due to the cost of the wine. We decided to order a bottle from the Cockfighter’s Ghost vineyard itself, which was very nice. However, we were not impressed to find out (after visiting the vineyard the following day) that there was a >200% mark-up on wine which had literally been walked across the hall. I appreciate the need to mark-up products to cover running costs/ make a profit however this was a little hard to swallow. In spite of this, I would highly recommend a visit to Hunter’s Quarter and we would happily return in the future.

Thank you for taking the time to leave your review of Hunters Quarter here on TripAdvisor. We are so pleased you enjoyed your experience at HQ. I will be sure to pass on your great feedback to our wait and kitchen team. We certainly understand your concern with wine prices. The cellar door is a separate company and Hunters Quarter does not resell wine at cellar door pricing. As a small family run business there are many costs involved in obtaining, storing and serving wine. Thank you again for your feedback and we look forward to welcoming you back to HQ in the future.

What can you say, a beautiful spot to have lunch. We were outside on the verandah with those beautiful views. I ordered the vegetarian option, well when I say option, there was only one. I was presented with three to four dumplings in a bowel, sitting in a brown watery substance. That's my best description. The dumplings lacked any flavour or taste and when touched with a fork they completely fell apart. I did say how unsatisfied I was with the main to the waiter, he was apologetic. Later on another staff member came over to clear plates and she asked about the meal. I told her that the food was not very good. It was tasteless and badly presented. She did inform me that when the staff were tasting the menu no one would taste the vegetarian option. This sums it up completely, if you're not willing to taste or eat the food yourself don't expect anyone else to pay for it. Just because it's vegetarian food doesn't mean that no effort or thought should apply. Next time I'm in the hunter valley, I'll be giving this place a wide berth.

My sister and I had the pleasure of visiting Hunters Quarter for dinner and it certainly exceeded our expectations. We indulged in the 8 course tasting menu which was a delight from start to finish. The prawn and spanner crab dumplings in sweet corn, coconut and spring onion broth, the full blood wagyu beef tri-tip and the torched triple cream brie were definite menu highlights for me, but each dish was special, unique and delicious. The staff were friendly, attentive and knowledgeable without being imposing, and the restaurant has a lovely cosy atmosphere with a wonderful outlook to their picturesque vineyards. Thanks for a lovely evening guys!

This is the first time we tried this restaurant and we were all very impressed with the food and service we received. We were here for the Elton John concert and left organising our booking a little late. Megan and staff were so incredibly accommodating to our booking - leading up to the booking we had to make a few changes to the size and time of the booking and nothing was any trouble at all. The menu is great with loads of options for all dietary requirements. Most of us had either the lamp, veal or barramundi dishes. Everyone was impressed and happy with their meal. We only had one course as we all had a large dinner event to get to. They also accommodated several coffees to go. The only criticism I would have was that it did take a long time to get the meals. I’m putting this down simply to the fact that they were run off their feet being such a busy day. Also, because we didn’t do entree’s we went straight to mains and for a group of 10 it was going to take time. Our waiter Boris, was both professional and friendly. The menu had loads of wine options too. We sat near the window overlooking the vineyards. A great spot for lunch, only a short drive from the heart of Pokolbin. We will be back!

We weren’t sure what to expect & we certainly weren’t disappointed. The menu is quite vast, but we chose to try the 5 course tasting menu @ $110 each. You can have wine pairings with each course (costs extra) although we chose not to. When the 1st 2 courses came out, we thought they were small, but by the end of the 5th course & a couple of drinks, we were definitely full, there was more than enough food for us. We have no complaints about any of the courses, all were presented nicely & delicious. I have to make special mention of the broth with dumplings...oh.my.god! Absolutely delicious, to die for. Staff were all professional & friendly. They also explained each course (in detail) as they were placed in front of us. The outlook over the vineyard also added to the atmosphere. It cost us just under $300 for the 5 courses, 4 drinks & 2 coffees; so it’s not exactly a cheap lunch, but as it was our wedding anniversary, we decided to spoil ourselves. We will definitely be back (Here’s hoping the broth will still be on the menu!)

My wife and I had the pleasure of dining here last night. Arriving earlier than we had booked (thanks to the highly irregular local taxi service that turned up on time for once) we were greeted in a very friendly manner initially and then by Jen, the licensee who had taken our booking over the phone. With the COVID restrictions we were not allowed inside but were offered a seat on a lounge outside and ordered some wine to drink while we waited and chatted with Jen. Everything about the meal was perfect. The highly professional, attentive and friendly service from Jen and her staff that looked after us, Moten and Boris, was well and truly matched by first class food and wine. Like most restaurants forced to work with comparatively minimal guest numbers, the menu was restricted to a choice of 4 entrées, 4 mains and 3 desserts. We would have eaten any of them but we both chose the prawn and crab dumplings ...sensational! Then we had the duck and the fish, again both excellent dishes, super fresh and beautifully presented. I then had the ‘carrot cake’ and my wife had the cheese. I am not a fan of carrot cake but I took Moten’s recommendation and chose it. Well, what can I say? It was absolutely gorgeous, especially the ice cream on top of a perfect praline. Again Jen came over to chat with us and we were asked to meet the chef and his team in the kitchen. All in all a really memorable night out. Not cheap but worth every cent. Highly recommended and, Jen, we will definitely be back. Can’t wait!

We attended Hunters Quarter for dinner with my fiance during our Australia day long-weekend holiday in the Hunter Valley. We were impressed with the modern, sleek and clean look of the restaurant from the first moment. We were seated at a spacious table and we noticed that all seatings strictly adhered to the social distancing rules. Before attending the restaurant, we were worried about the fact that we went for dinner (instead of lunch) because the restaurant has a beautiful view over the vineyards but we were pleasantly surprised by the fact that the vineyards and fountain in front of the restaurant are lit at night offering great views and ambiance. The customer service was amazing as we were immediately greeted at the door, we were seated at our table and a waitress introduced herself and brought us menus as soon as we were seated. The food was nothing short of exceptional with all dishes tasting, looking, and smelling incredible. I ordered the scallops as an Entree, the beef fillet (cooked to PERFECTION) as the main and the cheese platter for dessert. I was particularly impressed by the fact that during dessert the manager (or owner?) stopped by our table to check whether everything was all right and even told us where they sources their fantastic dessert cheeses. All in all it was one of best meals and experiences we had in the Hunter Valley. There is no way I could fault the place.

With a group of four we stopped off for lunch and were extremely impressed with the ambience and beautiful views from this restaurant. Upon opening the menu we were greeted with an interesting but most enticing range of food and wine options. The oysters natural was my selection and I must say they were the best I had eaten in a long time Beautful food and lovely wines agreed by all of us. Only minor disapppointment was waiter who seemed to not want to be there.

Had the best dinner in town here. Prawn dumplings in a sauce that makes you swing from England to Vietnam in a breath. Then we had the duck breast that had salty & crisp skin, perfectly cooked and the daily fish that was sat on a cream broth of tender squid and Israeli couscous (genius). Followed by spiced carrot cake (more like sticky date pudding meets a heavenly dumpling) with cream cheese ice cream OMG. The ‘simple’ cheese plate was delicious with a house made compote and more crackers than you need (thank god). The staff - Jen, Molten & Boris were not only well versed in their trade and amazingly professional; they were fun and inviting. Who cares what it cost. Best dinner ever. Didn’t send 1 thing back! We’ll be back ...with friends.

We have eaten at this restaurant over 10 times now and have never experienced anything less than perfect food and service. The staff are welcoming, professional and friendly and the food is just exquisite - always innovative, delicious and perfectly cooked. The wine list showcases the best that the Hunter Valley has to offer and the location is beautiful - easily accessible to most Pokolbin accommodation but still peaceful and with magnificent views over the vineyards. I don't know how the chefs and staff manage to deliver a consistently brilliant experience, and we feel very lucky to have been able to visit as many times as we have. Highly, highly recommended.
