The food was exceptional. All glories to the chefs. The wines heavenly. The setting tranquil and reflective. The service I recieved was peculiar. A vivacious, friendly and somewhat obsequious server became passively annoyed and intolerant of my dining clock. I like taking my time to...indulge, and savour my meal. This brought a curt and corrupted progression of feigned civility that almost spoiled a wonderful evening. Don't let this put you off. The food is exceptional, but I was left feeling that I should be thankful for something expected of me that I didn't provide to the ego of a staff member. I sat for 10 minutes after my entree with an empty glass. It felt like my punishment for taking too long.More

We have unfortunately received some of the worst customer service in the Hunter Valley. I emailed through over a month ago for a reservation for dinner 3 months in advance. I was told I was on the waitlist & when the bookings open up, I...was 1st in line. This happened during lockdown so I assumed this meant when the restaurant opens for dinners again, we would be notified. This did not occur so I emailed about our reservation once again. This time I was told they were already at capacity & we were on the waitlist if someone from the accommodation doesn’t dine there. This was a waste of a month of our time & being a Tuesday that we are trying to book, we now can’t book in anywhere else! This was supposed to be our anniversary dinner. I am disappointed in the customer service & should have been notified the 1st time of the circumstances. I have also booked a couples spa package for $500 with this company for our anniversary & if I hadn’t already paid for it upfront, I’d be cancelling & booking somewhere else. Truly ruined our anniversary for next month! Thanks very much!More

Do yourself a favour and enjoy the flavours at Botanica. We had the menu de jour with matching wines. As usual we each eat half and then swap, so double the pleasure and what a pleasure it was. The wines matched food perfectly and to...end we each had a liqueur coffee on ice. We also shared a lobster roll to start, as it was lunch time and we hadn’t had breakfast. Covid is teaching us all to appreciate local and to spend local. We’ll be back.More

While wine tasting on Hermitage Road Pokolbin we accidentally fell over the beautiful Spicers Vineyard Resort. We parked and walked around the property for a good hour before we came across the stunning Botanica Restaurant nestled amongst the vineyards overlooking the 8 acre private Spicers...Vineyard Estate. It was already on our well researched list for dining options in the Hunter. Advertised as a modern Australian restaurant with a view, Head chef Chris Rhoney from the UK is a skilled and creative operator and has secured a Good Food Guide hat for Botanica in 2021. This restaurant is quality dining at a quality 5 star destination. It was definitely the best dinner we had on our trip by far. We popped inside expecting to be turned away for a dinner booking that evening, but Patrick, the outstanding host, squeezed us in, and we worked with his timing. On our return for dinner the place had a special ambience and vibe, and it was FULL. It felt cosy and Patrick remembered us by Christian names and was quick to seat us and walk us through the regional menu. Our waitress was fabulous. She was totally attentive throughout, without being intrusive. She was professional and friendly. There were lots of cocktails passing by our table but we settled on a bottle of Tyrrell's Belford 2013 Semillon from the superb regional wine list pre dinner. Our entrees came quickly, freshly shucked oysters, and a Lobster Roll with citrus mayo on a steamed milk bun. We followed then with Duck liver pate, wattle seed brioche, prune and pear and we both settled on King George Whiting for our mains. Apple Tart Tatin and Burnt Honey Ice cream followed, washed down with a Margan 2014 Shiraz. The verdict………..AWESOME, ALL TOO GOOD. Every course was quality and dishes were creative. The food was refined, innovative and inventive. The entire night was a memorable experience from start to finish. The meal flowed seamlessly along with the wine service and the setting is superb, either by night or by day. The service was impeccable and a 10/10 I’d thoroughly recommend the venue for food, service and setting, ( it’s a top allrounder) and it deserves every accolade it’s received. Patrick worked the floor throughout dinner, checking all guests were satisfied and there was nothing more he could do to spoil us. We will definitely return, and look forward to seeing you all again soon. A great night.More

Food and drink were great. Our waitress was terrible. She was so rude. I’d love to say she was having a bad day but she was just as rude to our friends who went the next day.More
