There is nothing that worse than a bad restaurant full and a very good one empty. Unfortunately Ridgeview falls in the latter category . We arrived to be greeted by the head Chef , I assume, who apologised in advance that due to member of staff not turning up , service could be slow . Memo to restaurateurs , if you are short staffed tell your customer, we understand !! It frustrates me to receive bad service then to be told by fatigued or grumpy wait staff they are short on help today . With this in mind , we could not fault the friendliness of the team at RW , the quality of the food , the cellar door prices of their more than acceptable wines and the reasonably priced 2 course and 3 course offerings RW will become one of our go to eateries when entertaining guests

Have been here on several occasions over the past year. Have always had impeccable service and great food in a relaxed atmosphere. The location is superb as it is away from the sometimes busy Pokolbin and Lovedale areas. Alex as head chef is meticulous in creating quality dishes that are presented on the plate beautifully. Michaelee at the front of house consistently offers high quality and professional service making every visit a delightful dining experience. To complete the in house package there is Kris at the cellar door who has an extensive knowledge of the wines for sale both in the cellar door and on the restaurant’s wine list. This place is a hidden gem that should not be missed if you are visiting the Hunter Valley. If you are a local, do yourself a favor and give Ridge View a visit.

Beautiful view & atmosphere. Nice breakfast but not outstanding 4/5. Service ok but not great. I ordered the big breakfast, which on the menu stated I could have my eggs poached or scrambled, I wasn’t asked & they gave me scrambled eggs which was my less preferred option. All went ok ,but I repeat, nothing memorable unfortunately.

Menu was a shared plate style menu. We booked for 7pm but ended up being the only people there and felt very pressured to eat quickly as the kitchen staff were closing up for the night. We sent back the beef as it was served to us cold. Husband actually asked if it was a cold dish or if it was meant to be hot... it was remade and served again to us but medium-well and tough. The prawn barley rissoto was ok, got towards the tail end of the dish and got a mouthful of prawn shell which was incredibly unappetising, house made crackers in the dish were also so soft they felt stale. Lamb was slow cooked, shredded and then presented in a cylinder type shape with minimal sauce. The potatoes were alright. Dessert was tasty but small portion. Wouldn't go back again given it's a decent drive from Pokolbin and restaurants more in my preferred dining style.

The sharing plate menu may be new but we felt it does not work well for just 2 people . The dishes we chose were underwhelming. The octopus was a very small serve and was a bit cold, the eggplant dish was really not very nice.. but the prawn pasta was Ok. The dishes we ordered lacked robust flavour and hopefully were not representative of the menu as a whole. We will try again as we are locals. Enjoyed the RidgeView Shiraz.. very good and well priced.

Excellent breakfast, food cooked to perfection. Nice coffee and excellent friendly service. Lovely views in this hidden part of the Hunter Valley. The Shakshuka eggs delicious, the other ordered Ridgeview greens, with a side of delicious bacon and potato hash. Perfect!

We came to Ridgeview for dinner and were very satisfied with the food. This was our first time dining here, but it won’t be our last. There was only one other table with people, so our food came quickly. The chicken wingettes are definitely worth the price, and the bread rolls and butter were very tasty. Service was excellent too and the view of the vineyard was very pleasant. Overall, would definitely recommend!

The food was outstanding. The food and wine pairing recommendations were spot on. The service was top notch. The views are some of the best you can see in the Hunter Valley. Many of the herbs and veggies used on the menu are grown in the pretty veggie garden on site, which we were able to walk through and view. Our host was attentive and friendly. Highly recommend.

I had lunch here with my family today. The food, flavours, presentation and service are just amazing. Freshly picked veggies and herbs too. If you have something special to celebrate or just want to spoil yourself with an amazing meal you can't make at home this is the spot. And don't forget to indulge yourself and finish with the Semi Freddo, perfection...

The cellar door and restaurant are outstanding. We started at the cellar door and the lady who did our tasting was knowledgeable and more than happy to help with any questions we had. She wasn’t pushy at all. We then moved to dinner in the restaurant. The food was great. We had the scallops, the halloumi, the duck breast and the barramundi. All cooked very well... especially the duck. The service was also very good. The two waitresses were attentive and very friendly.. BUT... THE FLIES! Incredible is an understatement. There were so many around our table, it was hard to eat without one nearly flying in your mouth. We had to get a glass of wine replaced because 2 decided they’d like a red wine bath. When we brought this to the waitresses attention, she was more than happy to just grab us another glass with some covers to put on the glasses. This stopped them flying into the drink but didn’t stop them landing on the food and just all around annoying us. We had to eat fast and get out. I know there isn’t much the restaurant could do but the issue really needs to be addressed and it wouldn’t matter if they had the best food and the bet service, I wouldn’t eat at a restaurant if I had to share my dinner with a swarm of flies.

I was a bit cautious trying this place due to the mixed reviews, however I disagree with every bad review people have written for RidgeView. We walked into the wine tasting area and even though it was busy the ladies fit us in, we tried about 5 wines and didn’t have to pay as we had a booking for lunch. The wines were delicious and we ordered a bottle for lunch. Between the 4 of us, we ordered the bruschetta, arancini balls, beef cheeks, muscles, stuffed chicken breast and the chicken burger - amazing! I cannot fault this place or their staff. They were very nice and accommodating. I will definitely be coming back here.

We had a group of 12, so we ordered the 4-course with wine pairing. We had asked if a 1.5-hour service was possible as we had to leave by 2pm for a tasting, but we were 15 minutes late which was out of our hands & probably should've notified them beforehand. That may have been the reason why the food coming out of kitchen was slow, 4 courses over 2 hours was a bit much. We mentioned we needed to leave before the dessert came out. I don't know if either of us were to blame there, I think staff did well under the circumstances. Onion soup which doesn't sound too appetising, but it was quite sweet and surprisingly tasty, and went well with a glass of verdelho. Next was an entree sized trio of scallops, they were so delicious I could've eaten a plate full, the semillon paired with it was reasonable. The scotch fillet was just okay, the shiraz was quite soft and mild. My steak was tender in places and chewy in others, some said theirs was quite fatty. The dessert was an apple pie with raspberry sorbet, it was soft and sweet and a nice finish, many said it was their favourite of the courses. The sweet viognier was pretty good too. It's a fun experience with all those courses and wines, but we felt at times like we were forgotten by the kitchen. I realise we were a large group, but I would've thought they would be more prepared to send out the meals faster than a 2 hour period. Maybe give yourself a bit of time for the whole deal, especially when it's so far away from the wineries in Pokolbin.

Have been wanting to eat here for quite some time but until now the menu hadn't been to our taste. Pre-booked for a birthday lunch which all went smoothly with a table by the window as requested. The food & drinks menus aren't extensive but offer a good variety. All the dishes we chose were excellent as was the wine. I had the prawns for entree, lamb as a main & mousse for dessert. My partner had arrancini balls for entree, gnocchi for main & panacotta for dessert. The sparkling shiraz went down a treat. The portions were just right & the set 3 course pricing was very reasonable. Service was friendly & attentive. It's a little off the beaten track but well worth a visit. Will definitely be going back & also for a wine tasting.

We arrived at the restaurant on time for our booking after having to drive a long stretch on an unsealed road. The restaurant is at the end of a dirt road which is very dark to see at night. We were hoping the food would be worth it but unfortunately it was such a huge disappointment. The waitress who served us did not look very happy. We started with Mushroom and White Truffle Arancini, no trace of mushroom or truffle, only overcooked rice inside. Bruschetta was very average. We next ordered the Stuffed Chicken Breast with Feta, Spinach, Olives, Sun-dried Tomatoes and Gnocchi, the dish was tasteless. The Pork Belly Pizza was awful and rubbery, the base was under-cooked and bland. The Pork Cutlet special, it was tasteless and the pumpkin puree slush had no flavor at all, the Rosti should be crisp but it was drained in oil. The meal was left on the table inedible. This was mentioned to the waitress and luckily we were not charged for the dish. This is our first and last visit, we wasted our money and time by booking a table at this place. I would not recommend this restaurant, I was expecting fine food but there was none of that. There are better places to eat in the Hunter.

Hi Maria, Thanks for taking the time to replicate your dining partner's review of our restaurant. It's a little unfair that there are two reviews for the same dining experience, not really reflective of our overall services. Unfortunately the perpendicular dirt road to our venue is out of our control. There are many unsealed roads in country areas and we actually like being away from the hustle and bustle of the centre of Pokolbin. Sweetwater Road where RidgeView is located is actually a tarred road. Forgive me if my concern for your complaints about the pork dish left me looking a little 'unhappy'. As an owner of RidgeView, I have invested interest in customers' dining experiences and endeavour to go above and beyond to better your time with us. I thought it was important that I should take your concern seriously and as something that I would need to immediately discuss with staff. I apologise for not coming across as happy during this encounter as customers can sometimes take this the wrong way and I'd hate to appear facetious. When Andrew spoke to me about his distaste for the pork special I assured him that he would not be charged for the dish and shared that we had actually tried the dish earlier that day and loved it, hence why it was on the menu. His comments were relayed to the kitchen and the floor supervisor at the time. As mentioned to him, your table was the first to complain about that meal. Given that the pork dish was the only plate that had any food on it, we're a little perplexed about your comments on other disliked dishes. We are not a fine dining restaurant. There are plenty of those in the Hunter already. We pride ourselves on local and homegrown produce utilising fresh herbs and vegetables from our onsite garden. We have a strong family and wine focus and endeavour to provide a relaxed, affordable environment for our customers to enjoy. Hence the number of families dining with us on Friday night. We wish you all the best to stay safe and healthy at this time and thank you for driving along that dirt road to support our restaurant in these unprecedented times. Kind regards, Belinda

We had breakfast here on our last day in the area. Lovely drive there, quite scenic. But of dirt road but maintained well. We started in the restaurant sitting on the deck overlooking the vines, in particular the Pinot Gris grapes. Our food was yummy, coffee good. Staff friendly and efficient. We then moved into the cellar door to try some wines, the lady was very friendly, knowledgeable and not pushy at all. Let us enjoy our tasting and talk amongst ourselves but also willing to answer the million questions my hubby asked. They also had a bargain barrel where he got some good deals. Thanks
