Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Really enjoyed the ‘chef’s choice’ menu. Staff were very positive and attentive. Would return again and again.

We had the best meal here a few nights ago. The service was on pointe - all staff were lovely. The food is amazing. We had the raw fish - delicious, then the Wood Fired Mushrooms - now these were the best and also some...House Terrine. Then we shared an impeccable cut of steak (600gm). It was so tender. Thank you everyone for a lovely evening.More

Visited this Restaurant for Sunday lunch on the October long weekend as a couple. Ordered a half dozen Smoky Bay Oysters, Butchers Cut Steak and Silver Dory specials as well as a garden salad. Food was excellent. Bottle of Area blend Chardonnay set off the...meal well. Service was good. Staff were very accommodating with the accessibility needs of our party. Thank you for a lovely lunch and experience. Would recommend this restaurant to anyone visiting the Hunter Valley.More

Went to dinner with some friends on a Saturday night. We decided on the chefs menu (3 course). For a group of ladies that always polish off our plates, we could not finish the amount of food served (staff were happy to give us containers...to take leftovers). Every course was exceptional. Oysters some of the best I've ever had. Gnocchi was out of this world. Choc hazelnut mousse to finish and I was in heaven. Service was friendly and polished but not intrusive. Could not fault the food and service at all. Would definitely recommend.More

We actually ate at Brokenwood Winery where The Wood restaurant is, but we ate outside at Cru Bar + Pantry which has the same menu. Some of the photos posted on TripAdvisor for The Wood restaurant are actually of the Cru eatery. (TripAdvisor doesn’t not...currently have a listing for Cru Bar + Pantry). Anyway, I’m sure that my comments apply equally to both. Brokenwood has a very large, very modern, food and wine centre building. Unfortunately, there isn’t much of a view from either the restaurant or the Al fresco Cru section (which looks directly into the carpark. Where we ate was situated under a trellis covered with exuberant vines and was sunny and delightful. The waitresses were all very pleasant, efficient and chatty and answered our questions about the menu and the function centre. We ate here originally, 2 days ago, but had to return because the food was so delicious. Originally, I had the chargrilled quail and a main of Wagyu. That was heavenly. Today I repeated the quail but shared a slow cooked lamb shoulder and spring vegetables with my wife. The lamb was well cooked (slightly dry) and was served with half of butternut pumpkin with melted blue cheese and a generous portion of roast potatoes. The spring vegetables included zucchini flowers, charred asparagus, beans and corn. I paired my meal with a Brokenwood shiraz. I’m a big eater, but both of us were full and just managed to finish all of the food. The cost was $125 which I considered an excellent price for such a divine lunch. My favourite course was the Wagyu I had 2 days ago. If it’s on the menu, get it. It’s unbeatable. One of the best courses I have ever eaten.More

We spontaneously booked an evening at The Wood Restaurant at Brokenwood and did not regret it. It was my husband’s 30th birthday and we can’t think of a better way to have spent it! The service from Ethan and James was incredible throughout. We thoroughly...enjoyed doing the wine match with our meal. Our 4 course meal was exquisite and they were even able to accommodate an allergy request last minute. Shaun the executive chef brought out our main meal, which was a wagyu beef dish that we will all forever remember! The portions and flavours of each dish were well balanced and we were so surprised to hear that the new restaurant had only been open for 3 weeks. Highly recommend stopping by for a meal on your trip to the Hunter Valley. They went above and beyond to make this an incredible memory for us.More

Cracking day at Brokenwood. Great pizzas and wine. It’d be nice for a beer to break up the day. Maybe the new licensing will happen soon. Thanks Leah for being awesome.

We've dined a number of times at The Wood since their opening in 2018. Every meal from tables for 2, family groups, larger events and across lunch, dinner and breakfast have all been fantastic. Delicious flavours and friendly waitstaff. A favourite in the valley!

We regularly visit Brokenwood Wines, and since the opening of their new venue, we had planned that we would dine at their restaurant “The Wood”, at some stage in the near future. Prior to heading to the Hunter Valley, I checked out Brokenwood’s website which...states “The Wood Restaurant offers a contemporary fine dining experience”, and that’s what I was expecting! We had lunch at the Wood Restaurant mid-week. I started with the salted cod fritters which were beautifully cooked, lightly golden and crunchy, and the cod was fluffy like a whipped creamy potato, it was enjoyable. For my main, I had the organic polenta with woodfire mushrooms, truffle pecorino and hazelnut crème fraiche. I was expecting the polenta to be smoother than what it was, albeit it had truffle pecorino cheese throughout it, however I found it to be a little too coarse for my liking. The mushrooms were cooked well and having the crème fraiche with the additional pecorino on top, elevated the meal. The meal was nice, however I wouldn’t rave about it (sorry!) For a mid-week lunch-time fine dining, we were left a little under-whelmed at the experience!More

We had dinner at The Wood for valentines day, the atmosphere was nice. There was a special menu for valentines day but we decided to stick to the normal menu as the valentines menu was basically just seafood and didn't offer much variety. We enjoyed...the entrees the most, great flavours and beautiful presentation. The mains while nice were a bit of a come down after such great entrees, the chocolate dessert was amazing, I was impressed to see the gooey chocolate in the middle. The ambiance of the restaurant was lovely but once it filled up at about 8pm it felt like the tables inside were a bit too close and you felt like you were involved in your table neighbours conversation. Friendly staff but a bit slow to offer drinks when our wine and water glasses were empty and I found they filled my husbands water and would always forget to fill mine up even though my glass was empty, this happened 3 times. The wait between courses was a bit slow but we could see there was only 2 chefs in the kitchen and one person working the pass so that is to be excepted. Over all a nice nice and we left feeling full.More

We were looking for somewhere special to celebrate February birthdays. This restaurant came highly recommended from a couple who had recently breakfasted there. Louise waited on our table with friendly attention and certainly listened to our reason for being there as desserts came with candles!...The whole look of the Brokenwood building is really interesting, with plenty of parking. I can imagine weekends would be buzzing with incredible spaces for tastings and the cafe area, to outside dining to the restaurant. The food was terrific. I found the entrees really interesting and would consider two entrees next time. Our February birthday group are really impressed with the vineyards and the fabulous choice of restaurants. As we left the restaurant Elaine, one of the managers, made a special point of encouraging us to return, telling us about all on offer in the complex and really continuing that personal approach that we experienced upon arrival.More
